Merry Christmas as we bid a teary good-bye to “Mooch” and his final battle with Feline Chronic Kidney Disease

December 24th, 2012

About a year and a half ago, my parents could no longer take care of their two cats. So we adopted them.

One, Mooch, was my father’s devoted companion.

Mooch was very old and required lots of medical attention —the most pressing, Feline Chronic Renal Failure. Mooch had to be put to sleep on June 28, 2012 and it’s only now that I’ve been able to talk about Mooch —and to face this final good-bye.

And there’s really no better time than Christmas.

As always, the video, complete with video transcript.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH reporting from home office, December 18, 2012

It is Tuesday, December the 18th, 2012 and this what the Toronto Star looks like.

And here we have Lucky. Playing with a string. Let’s go, Lucky. There we go.

And I just want to talk a little bit about Christmas. And about Lucky’s Christmas.

My Dad had Lucky since 2006 —outside cat, a stray, and my Dad was feeding him. And he was also feeding Mooch, who’s been around a lot longer.

Actually 2010, both cats —we adopted both cats.

And Mooch was an old cat —we don’t know how long but in the last year or so of his life he was battling Feline Chronic Kidney Disease. And it got to a point where he needed sub-cutaneous injection and special feeding and all sorts of things.

And the last week in June, it was especially bad. We had to bring him to the Vet and pull out some rather extraordinary measures to keep him alive and things.

And then the last week in June —actually it was June 28th, where [sic] Mooch threw up and the material was black and just horrifying.

And my husband took one look at what happened and what was on the carpet and took Mooch immediately to the Vet.

And I, only now, have I been able to tell the story without crying or getting weepy.

[VIDEO INSERT of Mooch enjoying the sun, June 22, 2012]

MISSISSAUGAWATCH with Mooch outside on the grass as he enjoys the sun, June 22, 2012

Hey Mooch.

Again Mooch has Chronic Renal Failure and he’s also quite old. Of course I think the two go hand-in-hand.

And he needs about a hundred milliliters of subcutaneous injection every day —we do that in the evenings. And he also needs to be encouraged to drink. It’s almost like he forgets that what water’s for.

So you have to present him with water —shake the water, you know so that he can see it sparkle.

But most times he doesn’t really need a drink but we present the water fairly regularly.

And he still likes his treats.

Right, Mooch? A lot of people were asking for you. And how you’re doing. They think you’re neat. I do too.

[VIDEO INSERT of black necrotic vomit on the home office carpet, June 28, 2012]

MISSISSAUGAWATCH right after Mooch threw up, June 28, 2012

[crying] It is Thursday, June the 28th, 2012 and Mooch just threw up this black stuff. It’s all black. And it smells like —necrotic.

And Peter is just running, rushing him to the Vet —and I’m so so scared of what will happen! It just smells so foul! And we’ve never seen this before.

He threw it up.

It’s like he waited for me —I just, waited for me to see him throw this up. And I’m just worried he’s not coming back! [crying]

[DIP TO BLACK]

MISSISSAUGAWATCH reporting from home office, December 18, 2012

And to all those people right now whose cats are battling this kidney disease, don’t give up. Just make sure you give them the best end of life that you can.

But there will come a time when you may have to face the horrible, horrible questions of euthanasia.

And all I can say is it’s a horrible thing but eventually the Veterinarian makes it easy for you, well, [ironic laugh] —will make it clear-cut for you.

Our Vet, when I finally walked in —my husband had called me from the Veterinarian’s office and I walked in the door and the Veterinarian immediately said to me, “It’s time.”

And missing Mooch terribly. And in the meantime, we’re treasuring Lucky here. Right, Lucky?

Lucky…

Lucky… Luk-Luk… Lucky…

Lucky, come on…

Okay. It’s not going to happen.

Lucky, how about this way? Are you going to show us your face?

[DIP TO BLACK with photos of Mooch]

Merry Christmas.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH tripped up by Peel Police while covering brief hearing that saw charges dropped against Carolyn Parrish,

December 22nd, 2012

On November 20, 2012, the Mississauga News reported that “Charges levied against former councillor Carolyn Parrish that she violated the Ontario Municipal Elections Act by overspending during last year’s Ward 5 by-election have been withdrawn by a Crown prosecutor.”

I actually showed up at Burnhamthorpe Courthouse to file a report and hopefully even get an interview with Carolyn Parrish. Turns out the report I actually filed was not the one I expected!

As always, the video, complete with video transcript.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH to Peel Police officer: City of Mississauga Corporate Security LIES (3:26 min)

(Click here to go directly to YouTube)

MISSISSAUGAWATCH walking towards Mississauga Burnhamthorpe Courthouse November 20, 2012

It is Tuesday, November the 20th, 2012 and I’m here at the City of Mississauga courthouse. It is my understanding that there’s going to be a court —I’m not sure if it’s an appearance or what.

The problem, of course, is that I forgot an audio-recorder and I’m here on City of Mississauga property. So, this is the only way that I can protect myself. And I have to do this, again for the record, because City of Mississauga Staff lie.

And also there’s no accountability of Staff. So in other words if you complain about lying to the elected officials, they can’t directly investigate whether what you say about City Staff is true.

Councillor Pat Saito, Mississauga Governance Committee meeting, April 16, 2012

That is a Staff responsibility. It’s a Senior Staff —Commissioner/Director-level responsibility, or City-Manager-level responsibility.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH walking towards Mississauga Burnhamthorpe Courthouse November 20, 2012

That is, that the City Manager, Janice Baker provides this impenetrable barrier between City of Mississauga Staff and elected officials.

[At the door of the courthouse] Anyway, I’ll turn this off [close lens cap] and I’ll see. At the very least what I’m going to do is turn the camera off [close lens cap] at this point right here.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH following Carolyn Parrish out of Mississauga Burnhamthorpe Courthouse November 20, 2012

So here I’m officially out. And Parrish and Company.

This was very very very very brief. It was my understanding that the Crown dropped the charges.

Actually the most interesting thing that happened was —I was called by police and prosecution lawyer, basically telling me that I couldn’t videotape inside Burnhamthorpe courthouse. And I said I wasn’t.

That I was only using the video camera as an audio-recorder. And then the police officer said I couldn’t do that either.

And I carefully read the rules on the door which said that you can’t audio-record the hearing.

So I told the police officer that I was only protecting myself because of [sic] City of Mississauga Corporate Security are liars.

Here’s the deal.

His response was that I had a personal vendetta —personal vendetta versus a legitimate complaint and that they really are liars. And it’s just so typical  —so typical of law enforcement to stick together.

This kind of Blue Line —oh, they [City of Mississauga Security] can’t possibly be liars, even though Peel Police —what was it, three of four of their police officers were found to the lying in court as part of testimony.   [Note, the Toronto Star reported that it was actually five Peel Police officers lying in court]

Toronto Star "Peel officers who 'lied under oath' won't face charges" October 19, 2012

And as I told the police officer, I have to always always have an audio-recorder going when I’m on City of Mississauga property because City of Mississauga Staff —they lie! And this is a way of protecting myself. End of Story.

Like why is it so difficult that police officers can’t accept the fact that City of Mississauga Staff —and especially their security guards lie? Like, what’s so hard about that, especially given the fact that Peel Police themselves were found to be lying in court?

Like. What the Hell!

Councillor Jim Tovey mocks Federal employees during Mississauga Council telecast –ignores City Staff’s DUCT TAPE fest

December 19th, 2012

It’s a good thing for Councillor Jim Tovey that the Mississauga Council Code of Conduct’s Rule No. 13 doesn’t apply to Federal employees!

Rule No. 13

Conduct Respecting Staff:

4. No Member shall maliciously or falsely impugn or injure the professional or ethical
reputation or the prospects or practice of staff, and all Members shall show respect for the
professional capacities of the staff of the City.

Here’s video of Tovey, Chair of the City’s Governance Committee, mocking the professional capacities of Ottawa’s Federal employees. And conveniently forgetting City of Mississauga employees’ love for duct tape bondage fests.

And there was a back hoe operator, because they were doing some trench work in the front of Parliament Hill. And he was lowering down the shoring supports.

And there was [sic] eight Federal workers standing on [sic] the fence —like this. Just leaning over and watching the trench.

I have never seen any City of Mississauga workers do that.

And if somebody has, please, send me an email and let me know.

I don’t think our Staff —quite sure our Staff won’t be doing anything like that.

Just a warning. City of Mississauga Staff lie. That’s not allegation —it’s fact.

So a simple email to Councillor Tovey detailing what you saw will not be enough. All City Staff have to do is deny and it’s your word against theirs and (I have this admission on audiotape…) in a You-Said/They-Said scenario, citizens lose 100% of the time.

Take it from someone who’s an expert at being on the receiving end of City of Mississauga Staff denies and lies, videotape —continuous raw videotape makes the best witness.

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford victimized by IKEA Monkey –and my Cat tweeted the Ontario Ombudsman!

December 14th, 2012

Have to admit that I’ve been too serious lately so it’s time to lighten up.

Who hasn’t heard of the Ikea Monkey?

Well, I tried to resist piling onto the Ikea Monkey internet meme —really, I did. But my brain whispered, “Psst! Rob Ford! Ikea Monkey!”

Now they say that the heart wants what the heart wants, but let me tell you what the brain wants, the brain can make so.

So here is the MISSISSAUGAWATCH PhotoShopped….

Hazel McCallion’s “Friends of Hazel” spin doctors unethically-identical to Rob Ford’s “Ford Nation” spin doctors. Same-same Shame-shame.

December 11th, 2012

On the third anniversary of the December 2009 “Friends of Hazel” Rally, MISSISSAUGAWATCH examined Rally photographs taken by Donald Barber —just to see what could be seen.

"Friends of Hazel" NOT "grassroots". Retrospective analysis of December 2, 2009 "Friends of Hazel" Rally. (Photos taken 6 seconds apart by Donald Barber)

Click here to examine Donald Barber’s original (5184 x 8000) size photos

Three years ago, neither Barber or MISSISSAUGAWATCH knew who organized the “Friends of Hazel” Rally –a rally to oppose and stop the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry.

The December 2, 2009 Mississauga News article, “Hundreds back mayor” simply reported that “The event was hosted by The Friends of Hazel, a grassroots movement comprised of concerned residents of Mississauga.”  Real estate agent Betty Merkley was heralded as a “key organizer” of the Rally but it’s more likely that her primary role was to be the Rally’s citizen-grassroots “face”.

Three years later, MISSISSAUGAWATCH can now confidently tell you there was nothing “grassroots” about the “Friends of Hazel” hosts!

Donald Barber’s photographs provided remarkable insights into that December 2, 2009 evening —the most important being those taken after the Rally was over. Barber’s photos show row upon row upon row of empty chairs —and two groups of people engaged in what appears to be urgent discussion.

Photographs by themselves only capture the briefest of moments. Photos may be worth a thousand words but they’re not that much to go on let alone draw any conclusions.

It was the Jun 14, 2011 Mississauga News Letter to the Editor by Rob Trewartha that proved instrumental in finally confirming exactly who organized the “Friends of Hazel” Rally.

Trewartha’s letter complained about the cost of the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry as “$25 per Mississaugan” and he wrote, “I want my $25 back.”

So I Googled “Rob Trewartha”.

Long story short back in June 2011 as Trewartha wrote his Letter to the Editor creating the illusion he was just a regular Mississauga concerned resident, he was in fact, senior consultant at (Liberal insider) Warren Kinsella’s  Daisy Consulting Group. Trewartha also worked at Daisy Consulting back on December 2, 2009 as well.

Rob Trewartha’s Facebook page provided a goldmine of political information —and Trewartha proved to be one of Betty Merkley’s just five Facebook friends. What luck! But by far the most important stepping stone to researching exactly who organized the “Friends of Hazel” Rally came from Trewartha himself.

DON CHERRY ROB TREWARTHA FRIENDS OF HAZEL RALLY

A November 26, 2010 Facebook entry has Kyle Kerr asking what Trewartha was doing in a photograph smiling next to Don Cherry. To which Trewartha replies:

“At last year’s rally for Hazel. I helped to organize it. Grapes was one of our guest speakers in support of the Mayor.”

Add to this confession photographs and video of Trewartha actively organizing at the December 2, 2009 “Friends of Hazel” Rally and Warren Kinsella’s Daisy Consulting’s Rob Trewartha is quite the spin doctor.

For example, a YouTube video featuring Warren Kinsella sketching Stephen Harper as a silly cowboy turned into a Rob Trewartha “I am Canadian and Stephen Harper is not my leader” Facebook Group.

Warren Kinsella's YouTube video "INTERVIEW WITH ANGRY COWBOY STEVE", Rob Trewartha's Facebook page confirm "Friends of Hazel" not "grassroots"

And who can forget Patrick Mendes’ memorable words to his fellow Friends of Hazel when he proclaimed, “We are the wind in Hurricane Hazel!” Truer words were never spoken. “Friends of Hazel”: So much Wind. So little Truth.

Patrick Mendes, Candidate for Ward 10 at the December 2, 2009 "Friends of Hazel" Rally

And Surprise! By December 2011 Trewartha became Councillor Bonnie Crombie’s executive assistant.

And Surprise! Surprise! By December 2012, the Toronto Star had its own experience with councillor assistants —this time Ford Nation’s.

Of a Rob Ford administration 26-name list of preferred appointees, the Star writes:

In an attempt at damage control, Ford’s backers on the civic appointments committee insisted they had no knowledge of that and accused Crean of conducting a politically motivated “witch hunt.” The mayor himself said the notion that his office had rigged the process by circulating a list was “an outright lie.”

Now, it turns out that assistants to councillors Giorgio Mammoliti, Michael Thompson and Jaye Robinson were all sent “the mayor’s choices for short-listing” by a Ford staffer. Emails, obtained through the freedom-of-information process, show the supposedly non-existent list had 30 names. All three councillors receiving the missive were on the mayor’s hand-picked executive committee and the civic appointments committee. As reported by the Star’s David Rider, all claim their assistants never showed them the list. And their assistants have somehow lost all memory of having received such an email from the mayor’s office.

It’s not the pathetic denials that shock in this case. Politicians, as a group, have a reputation for playing fast and loose with the facts. What rankles is that — even though a list had obviously been issued — certain members of the Ford administration set out to smear Crean’s reputation as an unbiased upholder of public integrity.

That’s unconscionable. These people have no shame.

Toronto’s Ford Nation Mammoliti, Thompson and Robinson’s assistants or Bonnie Crombie’s little red riding hood Rob Trewartha —identical. Identical…

Mayor Rob Ford gets support from Mississauga Judicial Inquiry Judge Douglas Cunningham on 3rd anniversary of Rally to Stop Inquiry!

December 2nd, 2012

Today marks the 3rd anniversary of the December 2, 2009 “Friends of Hazel” Rally.

The Mississauga News description of the “Friends of Hazel” as a “grassroots movement” is as deceptive as the little girl coached by her photographer-daddy to hold up the “We [HEART] HAZEL” sign.

I’d already written in another blog that while I was packing up to leave the “Friends of Hazel” Rally that he continued to take photographs. As a result it was Barber who took the most important photograph that evening.

Multi-millionaire NON-grassroots "Friends of Hazel" Rally Organizers reveal themselves

Photographs by themselves aren’t really enough. However, Barber’s post-Rally image of those huddled at the back of the room and in the doorway made me examine all my December 2, 2009 video footage.

One segment, I viewed for the first time in September! It’s clear why I thought it was nothing back when I first viewed in December 2009 —boring footage of the front of the stage before the Rally even started.

But three years later, that boring “front of the stage” segment became Gold. I recognized two of the Rally organizers. And organizing they were! A Crombie, and Rob Trewartha (former senior consultant to Warren Kinsella’s Daisy Consulting and now Bonnie Crombie’s executive assistant).

When you add this photo of long-time Mahoney supporter, Murray Glassford (at the time I didn’t know who he was)

FRIENDS OF HAZEL RALLY (December 2, 2009). Organizers did their all to prevent Mississauga residents from learning about Hazel McCallion's wheelings and dealings on behalf of her son --and "her people"

and not to mention a Facebook confession by Rob Trewartha that he helped organize the Rally, it’s a safe bet that Liberals Mahoney/Crombie (with help from Daisy Consulting) did their all to try and stop the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry.

And what happens today exactly on the anniversary of the “Friends of Hazel” Rally?

Rob and Doug Ford are on their Radio Show encouraging listeners to check out the Toronto Sun article, “Province warned of ‘draconian’ conflict punishment: Retired judge”

The Sun’s Queen’s Park Bureau Chief, Antonella Artuso writes in part:

If the province had acted on recommended changes to “draconian” sanctions in Ontario’s Municipal Conflict of Interest Act Rob Ford might be fighting to remain mayor.

Former Justice Douglas Cunningham, who led an exhaustive inquiry into conflict allegations against Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion arising out of a controversial land deal, recommended a number of changes to the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act in his October 2011 report.

Those recommendations included the addition of alternative penalties such as a 120-day suspension or a formal apology.

“If the legislation had been amended as I suggested…I don’t think we would be in this situation, because one of the things that an amended piece of legislation would include would be lesser sanctions, and I think this case clearly cries out for some legislated change which would include lesser sanctions,” Cunningham told the Sunday Sun.

Antonella Artuso quotes as saying:

“But it’s just unfortunate that — if they were going to make some changes — that they hadn’t been made by the time of this lawsuit. In terms of the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, this mandatory sanction it seems to me is draconian given that there are so many variations and shades of conflict — and especially in a case where there’s no financial gain, there’s no fraud, there’s nothing at all in this case to suggest that Mayor Ford was trying to feather his nest…. And I rather suspect, if I read between the lines in Justice Hackland’s decision, that if he’d had some other options, he probably would have gone to them rather than the one that he was forced, quite frankly, to engage.”

Meaning: Justice Harkland was right. Ford was in conflict, but he had no other option. The Law is an Ass.

Also meaning, Toronto Mayor Rob Ford now benefits from the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry —the same Inquiry that Mississauga Liberal Teams Crombie/Mahoney fought so hard to stop, to prevent citizens from knowing that Peter McCallion stood to make $10 million on the Mayor-promoted hotel deal. After all, he now has former Justice Douglas Cunningham in his corner.

Also for the record, last night Warren Kinsella invited anyone interested to join him in the “FORD BEGONE PARTY” at the Bovine Sex Club on Queen Street.

From warrenkinsella.com

Punk and politics: the Ford begone party (updated)

November 30th, 2012, 3:48 pm

Some of the folks who helped, pro bono, to get Rob Ford removed from office – I won’t reveal who they are – intend to come to SFH’s gig tomorrow at the Bovine Sex Club on Queen Street West.  It will therefore be a celebration of sorts.

If you want to join in, and meet some of these heretofore unknown people, c’mon by.  This political pestilence will soon be gone – because (a) he is not going to win his appeal and (b) if there is somehow a by-election, he’s going to lose that, too – and that is cause to be happy.

And for the record —this photo composite.  Yesterday’s Toronto Sun featuring Rob Ford and former Justice Douglas Cunningham and below that, the Liberal organizers of the December 2, 2009 “Friends of Hazel” Rally.

Mississauga Inquiry Judge, Douglas Cunningham defends Mayor Rob Ford --sticks it to the Liberals (Toronto Sun)

Also for the record, “Respect Democracy. Mayor Rob Ford” the Kinsella-inspired video I created had its desired effect. A Rob Ford supporter swallowed it at face value and mistook me for a Conservative!

As I tweeted earlier on:

MISSISSAUGAWATCH@MISSISSAUGAMUSE

#ONpoli #TOpoli And no! I’m not Conservative! I’m liberal and evidence-based. And *ashamed* of both the Ontario and Federal Liberal parties.

So here’s the video again —Rob Ford’s sleazy “Respect Democracy” just to remind us that spin, lies and turd-polishing ain’t just a disrespectful LIEberal thing!

So who’s Lorry Smith?

[cut-and-paste]

Name: Lorry Smith

Congratulations EVERYONE! Due to a lot of hard work by Ron and his supporters from all across the city – not just ward 6 – the biggest politcal threat to our city has been de-fanged. But stay alert. She still has claws and knows how to use them. 2014 is not as far away as it seems. Nando may try to pass his seat to the dark one when he runs for Mayor. CarPar may even run for Mayor herself! This became even more likely since she declared her “retirement”. Watch for her back-stage maneuvers over the next couple years. We must be ready for her. She may be evil, but she is not stupid. For now, let us bask in the glory for a short while. But keep vigilant. Cheers, Lorry

“the dark one”… Sounds a LOT like someone I “know”…

Rob Ford campaign strategists take page from Hazel McCallion’s “Friends of Hazel” –launch “Respect Democracy” petition, website….

December 1st, 2012

Well, this was inevitable. Rob Ford’s version of the “Friends of Hazel” have come out with their own online petition and new “We support our Mayor” website.

Ah! The “Friends of Hazel” Rally!

Photographs by Donald Barber and video have confirmed that Team Crombie and Rob Trewartha (senior consultant for Warren Kinsella’s Daisy Group) organized the “Friends of Hazel” Rally. In Trewartha’s case, he actually trumpeted his role to the world via his Facebook page.

Given that tomorrow is the third anniversary of the December 2, 2009 “Friends of Hazel” Rally it’s fascinating to watch the “Friends of Rob” make the same “Defend our Mayor” noises: “He’s done so much for the city”.

Rob Ford even had Don “left-wingers out to get him” Cherry thundering to his defense just like Cherry did for Hazel McCallion at the Crombie/Mahoney-orchestrated “Friends of Hazel” Rally.

Liberal Rob Trewartha. Conservative Nick Kouvalis. SAME. Hired gun political “War Room” campaign strategists. Paid to manipulate minds. Paid to bring American-style politics right here to River City.

Thanks to their ilk, we-Canadians are no longer Liberal or Conservatives. We’re “leftists” or “rightists”.

But here’s what strikes me. How is it that Don Cherry provides unwavering support to both “leftist” Hazel McCallion (her Crombie/Mahoney support teams are both Liberal) and “rightist” Ron Ford?

The reason? What do “leftist” Hazel McCallion and “rightist” Ron Ford have in common? I won’t insult readers here by stating the obvious.

Next. Related topic.

Back in the summer, I read Liberal-insider Warren Kinsella’s “The War Room” as well as “Kicking Ass in Canadian Politics”.

So yesterday I took the “Friends of Rob Ford” video “Respect Democracy” and played Liberal spin doctor. I asked myself, “What would Warren Kinsella and Rob Trewartha do?”

This is the result. Complete with video transcript.

I learned something creating this “War Room” video. Rob Ford’s “Respect Democracy” video and RespectDemocracy.ca website are not about respecting democracy any more than the “Friends of Hazel” are about “the best interests of the city”.

Ford/McCallionCrombie, Ezra Levant/Warren Kinsella, Nick Kouvalis/Rob Trewartha —all the ghastly same.

Mayor Rob “Above the Law” Ford and Ontario’s Purposely-Deceptive Municipal Conflict of Interest Act.

November 29th, 2012

Here’s my report on Mayor Rob Ford’s removal from Office as well as my take on the contemptuously-deceptive Municipal Conflict of Interest Act.

This video also includes comments about the Act’s “Removal of Office” penalty by Justice Douglas Cunningham (Mississauga Judicial Inquiry findings, October 3, 2010).

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, Mississauga Council Chambers, November 29, 2012

His chronic contempt for the City of Toronto’s Integrity Commissioner! The trampling of all of these rules!

It’s clear in Rob Ford’s behaviour —and his bully-boy-brother, Doug Ford— that rules are for other people. Not for them. It doesn’t apply to them.

He’s Above the Rules.

To me, Rob Ford did violate the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act. And he did it on purpose.

But as God is anyone’s witness, I never thought that the Judge would therefore drop down the hammer and vacate the Mayor’s seat.

Never in a million years.

And a lot of people are in shock.

You know, that’s kind of the stupidity of the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act—that there was only one penalty, which is removal of office.

Commissioner Douglas J. Cunningham, statement regarding findings of Mississauga Judicial Inquiry. Mississauga Council Chambers, October 3, 2011

There is still a role for the MCIA, the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act. Having said that, where a member has acted in contravention of the conflict of interest provisions in the Act, currently removal from office is the only sanction. I believe that lesser sanctions should be made available, for example, suspension of the member, a form of probation or a public reprimand.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, Mississauga Council Chambers, November 29, 2012

And the other thing about the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act. It was first passed in 1972. And 1972 is an interesting time.

You had John Robarts being the Premier of Ontario in 1971 and then 1972 you had Bill Davis take over the Premiership.

But it was clearly kind of something—a piece of legislation that’s passed in 1972. Guaranteed it will have been talked about and kneaded and molded as early as 1970-71.  But—

I don’t know what those people were thinking back then—the only penalty is going to be removal of Office?

Removal of Office is—is something I don’t think any judiciary really wants to go with.

Was it willful?

In Rob Ford’s case, it’s willful. because pretty much every day he does this—

ROB FORD MIDDLE FINGER

—to the rules and the standards of behaviour at the City of Toronto. Including the Council Code of Conduct.

This guy does not do Rules.

Last, I just want to add, for the record, this video of Peter Akman, ‏CBC News Reporter & Video Journalist, asking Hazel McCallion, Councillors Pat Mullin and Nando Iannicca about the Mayor’s upcoming Conflict of Interest hearing.

And gets almost some answers.

(Video) Toronto Mayor Rob Ford’s football slip, stumble and fall at a Grey Cup press event has gone viral as Twitter piles on!

November 24th, 2012

Last week Twitter was all a-twitter about the Toronto’s football-loving Mayor slipping and falling during a pick up game at Nathan Phillips Square.

In his blog, “Twitter piles on Toronto Mayor Rob Ford’s football stumble” CBC’s John Bowman wrote:

When Toronto Mayor Rob Ford slipped after snapping a football to himself at a Grey Cup event at City Hall, the GIF of his fall spread far and wide across Twitter… The Score’s Scott Johnson grabbed the Citytv video and created the inevitable GIF.

Here’s that inevitable GIF courtesy of a tweet from The Score @theScore

Toronto mayor Rob Ford is taking the three step drop to a whole new level. thesco.re/QX4K81

While there are those who will take a mayor’s spill and turn it into an inevitable GIF, MISSISSAUGAWATCH created the inevitable YouTube video —complete with slow motion (10% real time) and image magnification (125% original).

And what would a mayor “taking the three step drop to a whole new level” be without the appropriate “whole new level” silly football music?

For the record, Mayor Rob Ford slipping and falling at a Grey Cup press event is funny because he didn’t get hurt! After, when asked about his fall, he handled his obvious embarrassment with class and humour.

The CBC reported:

While taking one snap, Ford lost his footing and tumbled to the turf after a failed attempt to pivot into the throwing position.

Ford’s unforced error drew laughs from the crowd and members of the media. He was out of breath, but unhurt and laughed off his gaffe.

“I’ve got a lot of padding,” the plus-sized mayor joked when asked about his fall.

Mississauga Power Plants, Dalton McGuinty, Charles Sousa, Bonnie Crombie’s “Friends of Hazel”, MYTHissauga Summit, Land Transfer Tax….

I see too that the National Post’s Megan O’Toole has come out with “Even in her ‘last’ term Hazel McCallion grip on Mississauga council still solid”.

Have to laugh at Councillor Pat Saito claiming, “I don’t see anyone on council at this point in time that I think could step in as mayor in two years” —given she’d be highly familiar with just who mobilizes the “Friends of Hazel”…

They’re waiting for Hazel McCallion to make her announcement, that she will be running for Mayor, for, I think it’s the 12th term now.

And we’ve got the usual suspects over here —including Harold Shipp.

Alex Crombie, Hazel McCallion press conference, Streetsville, September 8, 2010

Could I have your attention for a minute? My name’s Alex Crombie and this is Betty Merkley and we’re both volunteers for the Mayor.

On this trip we all bend; we bend and we break
We break all our pacts with ourselves
We merely try to survive and we drop all our goals
And put our dreams all on our shelves

And we’re told our new goals, we’re told our new dreams
They’re nothing like the dreams we once held
And now to follow our dreams we have to buy all this crap
Fulfill the dreams of someone else

But don’t let ’em check you, they’re sucking the wrong brew
The cowards should not steer your life by their own fear
care what you are dreaming; the future is teeming
With stories that want to start

The “Friends of Hazel” and the “Cancel the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry Now Online Petition” –three years later.

October 28th, 2012

Today is the third anniversary of the “Friends of Hazel” appearance before Mississauga Council. As regular readers know this $$$influential$$$ group did their all to cancel the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH has no idea that "Friends of Hazel" Brian Crombie and Patrick Mendes sit right behind on October 28, 2009

Ever since October 28, 2009 I’ve been investigating anything and everything related to these “Friends of Hazel” McCallion. It’s been a fascinating, thoroughly-depressing plunge into McCallion’s rich, powerful (and efficient) MYTHissauga Manipulation Machine.

So how does one go about researching the “Friends of Hazel”?

I began with the Cancel the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry Now Online Petition at www.petitiononline.com/MissInqu/petition.html  That was back in early-2010 when the petition was whole —it’s changed considerably since. Go there now and you’ll see someone has stripped all 1,624 signatories of their surnames!

Of course, I’d long ago anticipated such revisionist-cowardice from the “Friends of Hazel” and saved the entire petition —html and all.

What follows is a cut-and-paste of the Cancel the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry Now Online Petition’s 1,624 names.

For the record, not all “Friends of Hazel” appear on this list. For example, “Friend of Hazel” Victor Oh didn’t sign on. Neither did key “Friend of Hazel” mouthpiece Betty Merkley.

Future MYTHissauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie didn’t sign the Petition even though she opposed the Inquiry. But the two Crombie sons did.

And of course it’s no surprise, that Bonnie Crombie’s executive assistant, Rob Trewartha, former senior consultant at Warren Kinsella’s Daisy Consulting Group didn’t sign the Petition though he helped organize the Rally.

The names on the Cancel the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry Now Online Petition plus Donald Barber’s superb photographs of that October 28, 2009 Council meeting revealed quite the MYTHissauga soap opera!

Hazel McCallion: Mississauga Judicial Inquiry Report "Updating Ethical Infrastructure"

Mississauga’s Cawthra Community Centre renamed Carmen Corbasson Community Centre –and Ghosts of Octobers Past.

October 13th, 2012

Today the City of Mississauga honoured former Councillor Carmen Corbasson by renaming the Cawthra Community Centre to the Carmen Corbasson Community Centre.

I attended the joyless, perfunctory event and quite frankly it was far more than I could stomach. I couldn’t wait to leave.

Ward 1 Councillor Jim Tovey did his thing as did Mayor Hazel McCallion. I noticed plenty of “Friends of Hazel” in the audience as well.

When you know it was October 2010 that Jim Tovey and Team McCallion used this election “Large Cheque” flyer suggesting that Carmen Corbasson was incapable of thinking for herself, you might have some idea of the emotion I was forced to suppress while there.

JIM TOVEY, DECEPTIVE FLYER, WARD 1, MISSISSAUGA

So here’s the video I made.

Mississauga’s Cawthra Community Centre renamed Carmen Corbasson Community Centre Oct 13, 2012

(Click here to go directly to YouTube)

And when you know that it was October 2009 when Councillors Mullin, Saito, and Ron Starr called what Corbasson supported a “witch hunt”, you just so resent their presence there.

And when you know that Bonnie Crombie’s swarmy “Team Crombie” actually organized that December 2009 Friends of Hazel Rally, well —

On the bright side I did get some quality time with Councillor Iannicca. Got a Hi from Councillor McFadden. And I managed to flip the bird to no fewer than two of City of Mississauga Corporate Security’s video surveillance cameras!

And now, for the record, what I regard as Councillor Carmen Corbasson’s finest, more courageous moment as she stands up to Harold Shipp and the “Friends of Hazel”:

VIDEO INTRODUCTION speaking AGAINST a judicial inquiry. “Mega-builder” HAROLD SHIPP, October 28, 2009

If I were sitting there among you, Ladies and Gentlemen, who serve on our Council today, I would be wondering what my position would be one year from now when an election is held and how many of you might have a chance for re-election —IF you proceed with the action you are contemplating now.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH whispers into camera, October 28, 2009

Now that’s a threat. Isn’t that interesting..

DIP TO BLACK

COUNCILLOR NANDO IANNICCA (Acting Mayor), October 28, 2009

Councillor Corbasson…

COUNCILLOR CARMEN CORBASSON, October 28, 2009

Thank you Mr. Acting Mayor and I will be brief. Um, let me first say that this isn’t an easy time for any of us around this table just like it’s not an easy time for you. I don’t think we take comfort in any of the decisions we’ve had to make of late. But notwithstanding, we are elected to make some tough decisions and I think that’s the type of comment you’re gonna hear around this table today.

I am not at all overwhelmed by the number of people who showed up, Councillor Prentice. In fact, I’m surprised there wasn’t more.

And I’ll tell you why I’m surprised because we all know Madam Mayor is loved, admired and respected. And I for one moment am not going to take away that from her. For me, she has been a role model in many many ways. We both started here in the City in 1978 and I’ve learned an awful lot from her.

I— my biggest difficulty is, and I hope you can understand and appreciate that when we have in-camera sessions, we are privy to certain comments and information that the general public is not.

For me, the in-camera session on the judicial inquiry opened up more questions than it answered.

I— that Madam Mayor didn’t declare one Conflict of Interest for a 17-minute or a 17-second, whatever it was, I have no problem with that.

I do have a problem that official government documents got changed with no satisfactory explanation.

I do have difficulty that any member of Council, doesn’t matter if it’s Madam Mayor, or me, or anyone else, can have off-site meetings, with a landowner, who has an interest in the City of Mississauga, that is going to financially benefit a member of any one of our families.

That may not be against the Conflict of Interest Act. But in my opinion, I would hope, and it’s my understanding that a judicial inquiry can —and most probably would, depending on their findings —make some very strong recommendations to have either the Conflict of Interest Act or the Municipal Act changed.

That’s simply put, Ladies and Gentlemen, for me —I’m not going to speak, I’ll let the others speak for themselves.

This isn’t about Mayor Hazel McCallion. This is about Governance, how do we improve it. Not only for this municipality, but across the Province. And I don’t know what price tag you put on that. Is it ten thousand? Is it one million? Is it ten million? I don’t know.

But I would like to see this City in particular, and certainly Madam Mayor come out with credibility, integrity and that we all maintain our dignity.

I do thank you for coming out today, Ladies and Gentlemen and I will turn it back to the Acting Mayor.

COUNCILLOR NANDO IANNICCA (Acting Mayor), October 28, 2009

Thank you…

Super 8 movie of ride with Mississauga Police circa 1970’s proves welcome relief from 2012’s Alzheimer’s World

October 6th, 2012

It’s October 6, 2012 and I’m so disconnected living so much of my life right now in Alzheimer’s World. It’s a disorienting warped hole of other-Place, other-Time, other-Rules. When I do get relieved to go home, there’s really only enough mental energy to research more on Alzheimer’s because that’s the priority.

To navigate the Dementia and then deal with the Corruption at the City of Mississauga is more than I can handle right now. When it’s not working with Alzheimer’s caregiving and Alzheimer’s research, my brain just wants to sleep —or PLAY!

A few weeks ago I took two old 1970’s films in to be converted to digital format. One of those Kodak cartons had “Peel Police” scribbled on it. So I was surprised to view the final product and find “Mississauga Police” on the officer’s uniform and “Mississauga Police” on the yellow Plymouth Fury as well.

Any help positively dating this Mississauga Police piece of history would be appreciated. Also, if anyone can identify the two officers in this film I’d welcome that too. Last. If anyone can identify any of the locations we drove through, same thing.

For the record, back in the day, you could phone the police, explain you wanted to shoot some film for a teaching aide and next thing you’d know, you’d get a ride about town inside a Police cruiser. Not now!

Viewing the early 1970’s footage you will also see how GREEN the Town of Mississauga was. (Just sayin’.)

Next. It’s unlikely you can get a more belated thank you than my thank you to Mississauga Police for driving me around one afternoon in the 1970’s.

Mississauga Governance Committee’s deceptive minutes approved unanimously thanks to Bonnie “Can’t Move Them” Crombie.

October 1st, 2012

Back in June, the City of Mississauga announced that it had hired Robert J. Swayze as its first full time Integrity Commissioner.

In its June 20, 2012 press release City of Mississauga Appoints Integrity Commissioner the City states:

“Staff will work with Mr. Swayze over the summer and report back to Council in the fall concerning recommendations to amend the Code of Conduct for Mayor and Members of Council.”

Very few people are aware that back in 2009-2010 Mississauga Staff simply took the City of Vaughan’s Council Code of Conduct, made a few minor changes, replaced instances of “Vaughan” with “Mississauga” and then announced “City of Mississauga’s Draft Code of Conduct Available to Residents for Review  Jul 09, 2010”.

Put another way, had a journalist, you, me or any student in the province done what City of Mississauga Staff did, it’d be called Plagiarism.

That City of Mississauga Staff worked with the Integrity Commissioner “concerning recommendations” is obvious right from the Get-Go in Mr. Swayze’s  “First Report of the Integrity Commissioner”.

He writes:

RECOMMENDATIONS:

That the mandate of the Integrity Commissioner not be expanded to
include investigations of members of City staff;

It seems that over the summer, City of Mississauga staff worked with the new Integrity Commissioner to ensure that they still get to “investigate” themselves! And oversee themselves!

MISSISSAUGAWATCH has repeatedly gone on record warning the public that:

And think about it. Is it appropriate for City of Mississauga Staff to work with the Integrity Commissioner on investigation-related recommendations concerning them?

How is that not conflict of interest?

Next.

Page 4 of Mr. Swayze’s “First Report of the Integrity Commissioner” states:

Expanding the role of the Integrity Commissioner to conduct
investigations of staff

I have reviewed minutes of Council meetings which recorded hearing
presentations urging that the role of the Integrity Commissioner be
expanded to include investigations of members of staff.

Given that the Integrity Commissioner’s report defines staff as:

“staff” includes the City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer, Commissioners,
Directors, Managers, Supervisors and all non-union and union staff whether full-time, parttime,
contract, seasonal or volunteers.

I, for the life of me, can’t imagine what “minutes of Council meetings” he actually reviewed!

So I sent Mr. Swayze an email requesting clarification. I cc’d to Councillor Jim Tovey, Chair of the City of Mississauga Governance Committee as well. (For those who care more about Money than Accountability I will be contributing $250.00 to the Governance Committee for an hour of Mr. Swayze’s time.)

Here is my email for the record.

Subject:Requesting a list of all meetings which you reviewed that “recorded hearing presentations urging that the role of the Integrity Commissioner be expanded to include investigations of members of staff”Hello Mr. Swayze,In your First Report of the Integrity Commissioner dated September 7, 2012, under the heading, Expanding the role of the Integrity Commissioner to conduct investigations of staff you wrote:”I have reviewed minutes of Council meetings which recorded hearing presentations urging that the role of the Integrity Commissioner be expanded to include investigations of members of staff.”I am preparing a Governance Committee deputation and need a list of minutes of all meetings that you reviewed so that I can as well.Thank you,[name]MISSISSAUGAWATCH

Also for the record, this week I discovered that the minutes of the Governance Committee meeting do not remotely reflect what was actually said by Councillor Pat Saito after my  deputation at the April 16, 2012 Governance Committee meeting.

This part:

Councillor Pat Saito clarified that complaints made about a Member of Council would
not be referred by the Integrity Commissioner to the Human Resources Division for an
investigation. She noted that it is anticipated that an Integrity Commissioner would be
hired by the end of June 2012 and the Governance Committee would work with them
on the revisions to the Council Code of Conduct. She further spoke to the matter of the
Integrity Commissioner not reviewing complaints against City staff.

So I checked the Governance Committee’s May 14, 2012 minutes to examine how anyone could approve that Councillor-Pat-Saito-clarified paragraph.

Ready?

MATTERS CONSIDERED:1. Approval of Minutes of Previous Meeting

Minutes of the Governance Committee meeting held on April 16, 2012.
Approved
(Councillor P. Saito)

Councillor Pat Saito approved minutes that state she “clarified that complaints made about a Member of Council would not be referred by the Integrity Commissioner to the Human Resources Division for an investigation.” FALSE.

Councillor Saito approved minutes stating that she “further spoke to the matter of the Integrity Commissioner not reviewing complaints against City staff.” SHAMEFUL FAILURE-TO-MENTION.

Here for the record, is a transcript of what Councillor Saito actually said during that meeting.

Councillor Pat Saito, Mississauga Governance Committee meeting, April 16, 2012

—with the hiring of the Integrity Commissioner —and the anticipation is that this person would be, hopefully, here by the end of June. And then in the Fall, this committee would sit down with the Integrity Commissioner and work on the amendments to the [Council] Code of Conduct with that person being here to work on it with us.

So there is an opportunity for some of the concerns that you have raised to be reviewed during that process.

They may not all be addressed because —I don’t agree the Integrity Commissioner that we are looking at to deal with the Code of Conduct and the application of the Code of Conduct. That is for Members of Council.

I don’t agree that that person should be handling about all City Staff. That is a Staff responsibility —it’s a senior Staff, Commissioner, Director level responsibility, or City Manager level of responsibility. [* Note. MISSISSAUGAWATCH never suggested that the Integrity Commissioner address complaints regarding “all City Staff”. But rather Senior Management —City Manager, Commissioners, Directors.]

Now having said, Councillor Carlson and I were just talking about it there and there may be some validity in taking a look at the Integrity Commissioner dealing with complaints of the Senior Staff —the Commissioner, City Manager level.

But at this point, I don’t think either of us are, you know, that’s just something that was thrown out in discussion. Whether that would happen, whether we would think it’s a good idea after we’ve, you know, we’ve sat down and talked about it or not, I don’t know.

But as far as Staff below that level, that is dealt with by Senior Staff. That is their responsibility.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, Mississauga Governance Committee meeting, April 16, 2012

Actually that, yeah. I, I —that’s good. I like that.

Councillor Pat Saito, Mississauga Governance Committee meeting, April 16, 2012

But anyway, we’re —thank you. Gee we agree on something—

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, Mississauga Governance Committee meeting, April 16, 2012

I’ve got a question to what you said, Councillor Saito.

At the beginning you said you weren’t sure about that Number 2 thing, “Upon receipt”—

Councillor Pat Saito, Mississauga Governance Committee meeting, April 16, 2012

I just wasn’t sure where it was from. If you could—

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, Mississauga Governance Committee meeting, April 16, 2012

It’s under Rule 12.

Councillor Pat Saito, Mississauga Governance Committee meeting, April 16, 2012

That was under Rule 12.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, Mississauga Governance Committee meeting, April 16, 2012

Rule 12 deals with the Respectful Workplace Policy. And that is Provision 2 under Rule 12.

So anything that the Integrity Commissioner receives a complaint and he feels that it deals with the Respectful Workplace Policy, then he can’t investigate. He must hand it to Human Resources.

Councillor Pat Saito, Mississauga Governance Committee meeting, April 16, 2012

Then it’s referred. Okay. Thank you. I just lost the context on it so I appreciate that.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, Mississauga Governance Committee meeting, April 16, 2012

And that’s what I’d like you to fix, please. Thank you.

I keep saying. You can not trust City of Mississauga minutes. Can not.

My greatest question here is did Integrity Commissioner Robert Swayze base his recommendation “that the role of the Integrity Commissioner be expanded to include investigations of members of staff” on those deceptive minutes?

Next. Reviewing video of the May 14, 2012 approval of previous minutes delivered quite the surprise!

It shows Chair Jim Tovey 1. requesting approval of minutes, 2. turning to Councillor Bonnie Crombie who appears to be saying “I can’t move it” 3. Tovey looking to his left and 4. accepting Councillor Pat Saito’s move to approve.

So why couldn’t Bonnie Crombie move the minutes? She was absent that April meeting.

But here’s the remarkable part. When it came time to vote on approving the minutes, Crombie raised her hand in agreement. And thus the bogus, deliberately-deceptive April 16, 2012 Governance Committee minutes were approved unanimously!

Here’s that video.

City of Mississauga’s new Integrity Commissioner, Robert J. Swayze did not perform due diligence –neither did Governance Committee

September 17th, 2012

Back in June the City of Mississauga announced that it had hired Robert J. Swayze as its new Integrity Commissioner.

I’m reminded of what Mayor Hazel McCallion said at the March 17, 2008 Audit Committee meeting.

“I hope that the people we hire are sensitive to the fact that we are dealing with the public and we should give them every understanding possible.”

On September 17, 2012 the Mississauga Governance Committee provided Robert J. Swayze with his first opportunity to demonstrate that McCallion had hired an Integrity Commissioner who is sensitive to the fact that he is dealing with the public and will give them every understanding possible.

The June 20, 2012 press release City of Mississauga Appoints Integrity Commissioner at the City’s website announcing states:

“Mr. Swayze possesses significant experience in the practice of municipal law, both in private practice and as previous City Solicitor in two municipalities,” said City Solicitor Mary Ellen Bench. “He currently serves as Integrity Commissioner to a number of municipalities including Oakville, Guelph, Brantford, Port Hope and Carleton Place. He is certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist in municipal law. Staff will work with Mr. Swayze over the summer and report back to Council in the fall concerning recommendations to amend the Code of Conduct for Mayor and Members of Council.”

Nothing there about Robert J. Swayze being appointed an Integrity Commissioner because in addition to his expertise in municipal law, he is also sensitive to the fact that he is dealing with the public and will give them every understanding possible.

But most certainly Mr. Swayze’s September 7, 2012  “First Report of the Integrity Commissioner” will provide the necessary evidence that Mayor Hazel McCallion ensured that Mississauga residents will be served by an integrity commissioner who is sensitive to the fact that he is dealing with the public and will, over his five year term, give us every understanding possible. Right?

The reality is that the very moment that the reader gets past these headers of Swayze’s report:

DATE: September 7,2012
TO:  Chair and members of the Governance Committee Meeting Date: September 17, 2012
FROM: Robert J. Swayze Integrity Commissioner
SUBJECT: First Report of the Integrity Commissioner

to RECOMMENDATIONS, it is Robert J. Swayze sensitive-FAIL/understanding-FAIL and by extension Hazel McCallion-FAIL.

For part of the reason we just need to go back to the City’s news release and the quote from City Solicitor Mary Ellen Bench.

She stated:

“Staff will work with Mr. Swayze over the summer and report back to Council in the fall concerning recommendations to amend the Code of Conduct for Mayor and Members of Council.”

And what is Robert J. Swayze’s first recommendation?

RECOMMENDATIONS:

1. That the mandate of the Integrity Commissioner not be
expanded to include investigations of members of City staff;

That’s right. City of Mississauga staff worked with the new Integrity Commissioner over the summer concerning recommendations to amend the Mississauga Council Code of Conduct and apparently recommended that Mr. Swayze not investigate them!

How is City of Mississauga senior staff  working with Integrity Commissioner Swayze on whether to expand his mandate to include investigations of City senior staff not conflict of interest?

And a more troubling question: Why didn’t Robert J. Swayze, (who is also the Integrity Commissioner for Oakville, Guelph, Brantford, Port Hope and Carleton Place) recognize that working with City of Mississauga staff on whether he should investigate them as a conflict of interest?

It’s easy to demonstrate that Robert J. Swayze did not perform due diligence prior to writing his September 7, 2012  “First Report of the Integrity Commissioner” to the Governance Committee.

Neither did Councillor Frank Dale, Ward 4, Councillor Katie Mahoney, Ward 8, and Mayor Hazel McCallion, who all participated in the March 17, 2008 Audit Committee meeting where McCallion said:

“I hope that the people we hire are sensitive to the fact that we are dealing with the public and we should give them every understanding possible.”

Last, also for the record —from the Mississauga News June 20, 2012 article, “City appoints integrity commissioner”:

He is being paid a $24,000 annual retainer, which will cover the costs of all inquiries that do not require extensive research (less than one hour), a $1,500 block fee for providing educational sessions of half a day and $280 per hour for services outside the above.

The City has budgeted $100,000 for the role of the integrity commission for each year.

All those bucks and City of Mississauga staff still “investigate” themselves. And to be clear, that’s not allegation but Fact.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH

Alzheimer’s Month, the impending Alzheimer’s Tsunami –and a “salute” for old time’s sake.

September 12th, 2012

Last blog was August 27th, 2012 —never has so much time gone by between entries.

We’ve had an emergency and are now dealing with the fallout.

My husband and I were supposed to be on Maui until September 6th but were forced to grab a flight back to Canada two weeks early. We were literally ripped from Sun and Ocean without our annual ritual of long-longing last looks and good-byes.

There was absolutely no transition from Maui’s Brilliant Blues and Gentle Greens to Mississauga’s Smog-Browns and Concrete-Grays.

Since arriving in Mississauga my time has been dominated by elder care almost 24/7. And when I do get relieved, my brain either wants to sleep or bugger-off-play. I simply can’t concentrate on one thing for any length of time.

It’s like my brain wants out!

Since 2009 as caregivers, we have had to battle cataracts, glaucoma, prostate cancer, hip replacement, colon cancer, wet macular degeneration (to a point of being legally blind), falls after falls after falls —and that’s just from the top of my head.

Now Alzheimer’s has kicked down both our doors.

And Alzheimer’s is a battle we won’t win.

I recall our family doctor warning us about Alzheimer’s —warned us that we all had to grow a thick skin and steel ourselves— steel ourselves because “in the end there’s only Tragedy.”

“In the end”? There’s fucking Tragedy now!

Over the last year I’ve made it a goal to learn all I can about Alzheimer’s. So let me help you. There is no better Alzheimer’s resource on the Internet than Bob DeMarco’s Alzheimer’s Reading Room at: www.alzheimersreadingroom.com. You need to go.

If you’re a quick study, DeMarco’s Alzheimer’s Reading Room is the website to start your research —and the place to stay! DeMarco isn’t just about conveying Knowledge about Alzheimer’s. He and his late mother Dotty have inspired and touched the hearts of thousands of his reader-caregivers.

I confess that when I’m at a total loss —emotional wreck, I visit Bob DeMarco’s mum, Dotty. I watch videos of her. You know, to remember what’s Important.

In a recent report a Johns Hopkins psychiatrist stated that Alzheimer’s is now ahead of cancer as the most feared disease. When you are sucked deep into Alzheimer’s World you too will understand why.

September is World Alzheimer’s Month. The statistics are grim. The Alzheimer’s Association website states that “worldwide, 35 million people and their families are affected by dementia”.  That’s now.

Just imagine what happens when us-Boomers hit “prime time”…

Last, for readers expecting something political from me, I’ve got nothing.

No. Wait. Have enough energy for this cut-and-paste.

HEY HEY MISSCORPSEC!
WHAT DO YOU SAY?
HOW MANY LIES
DID YOU LIE TODAY?

You know, a cut-and-paste —to remember what’s Important

UPDATE 12/09/13  Yesterday I experienced the most intense case of “sundowning” yet.

For those unfamiliar with the term, the Mayo Clinic states that sundowning “refers to a state of confusion at the end of the day and into the night. Sundowning isn’t a disease, but a symptom that often occurs in people with dementia, such as Alzheimer’s disease. The cause isn’t known.”

I suspect the sundowning trigger yesterday was a live-broadcast German vs Austria soccer game. It wasn’t long after it finished that my Alzheimer’s Elder called for his shoes and announced he had to go Home. Announce is usually all he does –call for us to pack up and talk about Home.

Usually I’m able to distract and redirect his attentions. Not this time.

Despite a left leg still injured from a fall, he put on his shoes, slowly “walker-ed” to the bedroom, put on a jacket, removed that to put on a nicer jacket, returned to the living-room and called for his cap. Throughout I followed right behind him making sure he was safe from another fall.

Cap on his head, he then sat down and demanded he be driven Home.

I asked if he wanted a chocolate cookie. He waved that off. That’s how bad this sundowning was.

So I turned on TV as a distraction. Flipping channels.

“TV is shit,” he said. I sure wasn’t about to argue that proclamation. Flipping through more I found a face I recognized —the CEO of Credit Valley Hospital (CVH) and she was talking about the merger of CVH with Trillium Health Care Centre.

“Oh, look! It’s Credit Valley Hospital on TV!” I said. “Remember what a terrific hospital it is? Boy are we lucky to live in a place that is so close to Credit Valley Hospital!”

Then there were vignettes featuring Credit Valley and Trillium staff talking about their programs and how they care for people.

“And Trillium Hospital fixed your shoulder when you fell from the tree, remember?” I offered.

“Boy are we lucky to live in a place that’s even closer to Trillium Hospital, huh? Two great hospitals so close together.”

Silence.

The Sundowning Storm had passed.

By dinner, he was still in his shoes and jacket.

I told him he could wear his special jacket at the table because this was his home and he could bloody do whatever he wanted. But just to be careful not to spill anything on it. Without a word he removed it. And of course I assisted…

He had an excellent start this morning. Said he slept “very good” last night. Both are napping now.

For those new to sundowning, I’ve read that Alzheimer’s caregivers even go as far as driving the Sundowner around for a while and then return home.

“Mississauga” Council Code of Conduct, Bonnie Crombie, Justice Douglas Cunningham, George Rust-D’Eye: INTEGRITY *FAIL*!

August 27th, 2012

UPDATE September 2, 2012

We should still have been on Maui til September 5th but we were called back to Mississauga because of a family emergency.

Right now we’re doing Elder Care 24/7 and have no idea for how long. Because my blogs require that I work up video and then video transcripts, I just don’t have the time or energy when “off shift”. Put simply I just can’t concentrate.

I’m keeping in touch through Twitter and if you’re interested, check out https://twitter.com/MISSISSAUGAMUSE  I’ve managed to find 563 government-relevant people/agencies to Follow. Their tweets alone are worth the visit.

Anyway… until whenever.

Back to my Aug 27, 2012 blog.

Well, I’m back in Mississauga.

Going from Aloha Blue to Concrete’nCars is more than I can take this time ’round. But fellow Boomers will understand that Home is Where your Parents are.

Since I won’t have time to work up a blog unless I do it today, here’s the primary political thing on my mind right now. It has to do with the “Mississauga” Council Code of Conduct.

Now the first thing you need to know about the “Mississauga” Council Code of Conduct is that right from the Get-Go the thing is deceptive. The “Mississauga” Council Code of Conduct is really the City of Vaughan’s  CODE OF ETHICAL CONDUCT FOR MEMBERS OF COUNCIL

So it’s always a laugh to hear the Mississauga Mayor and Councillors congratulating themselves about their leading edge “Mississauga” Council Code of Conduct. That’s right, “leading edge”.

But one of the most bizarre comments ever made about the “Mississauga” Council Code of Conduct came from none other than Mississauga’s next Mayor, Bonnie Crombie.

Shoveled directly onto the National Post’s Megan O’Toole.

Bonnie Crombie Media Interview

After Mississauga Council meeting November 9, 2011

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

National Post reporter, Megan O’Toole.

And just speaking of the video –um, you know, in terms of this Governance Committee –obviously it’s going to be dealing with issues and something like this might be referred to the Governance Committee.

Um, last week we heard a lot of Councillors saying that the Inquiry was a waste of money, that it shouldn’t have happened.

But that has a lot of recommendations concerning good governance. And I’m just curious how that’s reconciled with this committee.

Councillor Bonnie Crombie

Megan, we’ve even exceeded some of the recommendations on our own before we even knew what the recommendations were.

In fact, I think that Justice Cunningham said we went too far on a Code of Conduct. And we should scale back.

So that’s something that the Governance Committee should look at.

I’ve been looking.

Re-reading Commissioner Cunningham’s “Updating Ethical Infrastructure” and simply can’t find where it’s said, “In fact, I think that Justice Cunningham said we went too far on a Code of Conduct. And we should scale back” (let alone any evidence of “Megan, we’ve even exceeded some of the recommendations on our own before we even knew what the recommendations were”.)

In fact, as in fact-fact, here’s what Justice Cunningham’s comments regarding the “Mississauga” Council Code of Conduct in his Commissioner’s Statement on the Public Release of the Report.

I believe that the Mississauga Code should be amended as well. Its language should be strengthened to make clear that members must avoid the improper use of the influence of their office and shall avoid conflicts of interest, both apparent and real. The Code should also make it clear that members of Council shall not extend preferential treatment to any individual or organization in the discharge of their official duties. Preferential treatment would be found to exist if a reasonably well informed person would include that the preferential treatment was advancing a private interest.

Cunningham has even more Code improvement recommendations in his “Updating Ethical Infrastructure” report. (So far they’ve been expertly ignored by the Mississauga Governance Committee)

So where did Bonnie Crombie’s “Megan, we’ve even exceeded some of the recommendations on our own before we even know what the recommendations were” come from?

Megan O’Toole didn’t ask.

Mississauga Liberal Councillor Bonnie Crombie slings pure bullshit in interview with Megan O'Toole November 9, 2011

As for Crombie’s “In fact, I think that Justice Cunningham said we went too far on a Code of Conduct. And we should scale back”, O’Toole et al willingly swallowed that one too.

Had to laugh at a tweet this morning from Dan Gardner, Ottawa Citizen columnist / author of Risk and Future Babble

Dan Gardner ‏@dgardner

One of the biggest reasons why politicians aren’t held responsible is the cynic who lazily sighs “but they all do it…”

Reply   Retweet  Favorite

Nope.

It’s because politicians crap out the worst kind of bullshit —even lies— as “fact” and lazy Traditional Media don’t respond with “Whoa! Where exactly is your evidence for your ‘In fact’?”

Observe. Here’s “Mississauga” Council Code of Conduct’s Rule 10.

Rule No. 10

Media Communications:

1. Members of Council will accurately communicate the decisions of Mississauga City
Council, even if they disagree with the majority decision of Council, and by so doing
affirm the respect for and integrity in the decision-making processes of Council.

Can you spot Rule 10’s real implication —a huge loophole so subtle that it shot right over my head back in January 14, 2012 when I’d last examined it?

Alerting Council and citizens to that loophole (and all others) was Justice Douglas Cunningham’s responsibility. The duty to advise Council —as well as exercise the will of Council also fell on George Rust-D’Eye.

INTEGRITY FAIL!

I’m reminded of Mayor Hazel McCallion’s comment at the March 17, 2008 Audit Committee:

So, I hope that the people we hire are sensitive to the fact that we are dealing with the public and we should give them every understanding possible.

Nope.

Sure Justice Cunningham made a good show of it. He had me fooled for the longest time.

As for Mississauga interim Integrity Commissioner, George Rust-D’Eye and “sensitive to the fact that we are dealing with the public and we should give them every understanding possible“?

Well. Let’s just say that $650.00 managed to confirm something that I’d already suspected.

Nope.

January 1, 2002

The treadmill was a complete disaster. Dr. Strauss expressed no doubt at all now: unstable angina.

He scheduled an angiogram. As soon as Strauss saw the picture, he spotted my problem: two arteries were blocked, one at about 80% and another at 90%.

No wonder it hurt.

January 9, 2002 my husband underwent a double angioplasty. Dr. Strauss reassured us that we could continue to SCUBA dive provided we go on an exercise regimen.

On August 22, 2012 we celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary SCUBA diving with the sea turtles we love and uploaded these two photographs to Flickr.

August 22, 2012. We were so thankful for this day.

Our only other plan was to dive at the Turtle House (much farther out and in deeper water) after Peter’s birthday. That had been a goal for him back in January 2002 —to SCUBA dive at 65.

Then we got a call from Canada….

Brampton Integrity Commissioner disses Mississauga’s Council Code of Conduct –and Councillor Jim Tovey disses MISSISSAUGAWATCH.

August 9th, 2012

Brampton Mayor Susan Fennell tweeted this tweet on Twitter.

B R A M P T O N : I am proud that today, Brampton Council voted to establish the Office of the Integrity…http://fb.me/J2TCYlwP

Yes, Brampton now also has an Office of the Integrity Commissioner. And I don’t blame Brampton for not wanting anything to do with Mississauga’s Council Code of Conduct —or its Integrity Commissioner.

Read on.

Back on November 9, 2011 which was my last attendance at a Mississauga Council meeting I videotaped a media interview involving Councillors Bonnie Crombie and Jim Tovey and the National Post’s Megan O’Toole, Toronto Star’s San Grewal and the Mississauga News’ Chris Clay.

When they were finished their questions I decided to ask Councillor Jim Tovey one of my own.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH media interview November 9, 2011

Councillor Tovey? Could I have a question with you?

Councillor Jim Tovey (2012 Chair of Mississauga Governance Committee)

Sure. [not appearing happy]

MISSISSAUGAWATCH media interview November 9, 2011

Um. Regarding this committee would, would citizens be able to, during the meeting, uh, sit in on it?

Councillor Jim Tovey (2012 Chair of Mississauga Governance Committee)

[laughs] You? Or citizens? [laughs harder]

Mississauga Councillor Jim Tovey (2012 Chair of Mississauga Governance Committee)

MISSISSAUGAWATCH media interview November 9, 2011

All right, all right—

Councillor Jim Tovey (2012 Chair of Mississauga Governance Committee)

[laughs] No. Sorry. Sorry.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH media interview November 9, 2011

No that’s a fair question, sir—

Councillor Jim Tovey (2012 Chair of Mississauga Governance Committee)

[laughs] Sorry. I’m just kidding.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH media interview November 9, 2011

No, no. Me. I’d like to, uh, first of all I-I don’t believe that it’s going to be authentic, okay?

Councillor Jim Tovey (2012 Chair of Mississauga Governance Committee)

Yeah, but you don’t, you don’t—

MISSISSAUGAWATCH media interview November 9, 2011

No offense, sir. I. You know—

Councillor Jim Tovey (2012 Chair of Mississauga Governance Committee)

And you know, you know God bless you but—

MISSISSAUGAWATCH media interview November 9, 2011

And—

Councillor Jim Tovey (2012 Chair of Mississauga Governance Committee)

—the only thing I find—

MISSISSAUGAWATCH media interview November 9, 2011

—Too much has happened to me and the other thing is that even though you’ve got an integrity commissioner—

Councillor Jim Tovey (2012 Chair of Mississauga Governance Committee)

—yeah—

MISSISSAUGAWATCH media interview November 9, 2011

—the point is it doesn’t have any influence on Staff. Staff still investigate themselves.

Councillor Jim Tovey (2012 Chair of Mississauga Governance Committee)

I, I, that’s going to be up the Committee, but my view is that it should —hopefully that it should be public. That would be my hope.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH media interview November 9, 2011

Yeah. Well, Mississauga’s pretty good at that.

Councillor Jim Tovey (2012 Chair of Mississauga Governance Committee)

And now that I’m talking to you for the first time, there is something that I would like to pass on to you—

And what Councillor Jim Tovey passed on to me will be for a later blog —complete with the actual video. Promise!

For now I’m just happy to let readers know that I advised Jim Tovey, the 2012 Governance Chair that “I don’t believe that it’s going to be authentic”.

Now even the City of Brampton’s $700 an hour Integrity Commissioner agrees. From the August 7, 2012 Brampton Guardian article “Integrity Commissioner reviews inaugural year”

Brampton’s Council Code of Conduct is “values-based”, which differs from Mississauga’s “rules-based” code. Cameron pointed out. And he commended Brampton, noting that Brampton’s code is “generally stronger and intrinsically deals with a lot of the issues that Mississauga’s code had not.”

Like I said to Tovey, who dismissed my warning, Mississauga’s Council Code of Conduct is not authentic! And because Mississauga’s Code is an almost direct cut-and-paste of the City of Vaughan’s Code of Ethical Conduct for Members of Council, neither is Vaughan’s Code!

And remember that $650.00 I donated to the Mississauga Governance Committee? The donation CONFIRMED that the Mississauga Council Code of Conduct is as worthless as the City’s two other bogus formal public complaints policies.

Believe it or not, the Mississauga Council Code of Conduct‘s Rule No 10 flings open wide doors for Mississauga Mayor and Councillors to lie to Media with impunity. With impunity —provided the lie has nothing to do with “decisions of Mississauga City Council”.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH donates $650.00 to City of Mississauga Governance Committee

Next, regarding my comments to Councillor Tovey that Mississauga’s “[Office of the Integrity Commissioner] doesn’t have any influence on Staff. Staff still investigate themselves” —here’s a quote from the November 10, 2008 City of Mississauga Corporate report CORPORATE POLICY – PUBLIC COMPLAINT PROCEDURE

Currently, formal complaints from citizens regarding employee conduct have been resolved at staff level, through discussion with the Mayor or Ward Councillors, or with a report to Council. Outside investigators have been used on rare occasions.

It is now August 9, 2012 and I can also confirm that nothing has changed since November 2008 and despite the City of Mississauga’s insistence to the contrary, Staff still cover u- err, I mean “investigate” Staff!

MISSISSAUGAWATCH report: Maui Community Correctional Center –barbed wire, surveillance –any way you look at it it’s still a jail

August 8th, 2012

For the record, there’s lots happening —and just to give you an idea here’s a partial list:

City of Vaughan’s Council Code of Conduct, Mississauga Council Code of Conduct, George Rust-D’Eye, The LIEberals, Warren Kinsella, Rob Trewartha, City of Mississauga Corporate Security, graffiti, skateboarding,

Reading List:

“The War Room” —Warren Kinsella

“Kicking Ass in Canadian Politics” —Warren Kinsella

Publications:

The Municipal Integrity Commissioner in Ontario: Role and Responsibilities  —George Rust-D’Eye, WeirFoulds

Case Law Update: Gagliano v Gomery and the Attorney General (Canada)    —WeirFoulds LLP Litigation

Not Why I Ran for Office – The Perils of a Councillor Facing Allegations of Improper Conduct  —George Rust-D’Eye, WeirFoulds

Municipal Conflict of Interest Law: A Law in Conflict Based on Interest  —Barnet Kussner, WeirFoulds

And believe it or not, all of it is related to the Roots of Youth Violence.

So. Anyway. For a slight change of pace, here’s yesterday’s walk past the Maui Community Correctional Center (aka Wailuku Jail).  I kept to the other side of the street and did my best not to look too interested. Hard to do with a video camera but—

Here’s the video complete with transcript.

Maui Correctional Center –barbed wire, surveillance –any way you look at it it’s still a jail (4:30 min)

(Click here to go directly to the clip on YouTube)

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, reporting August 7, 2012

It is Tuesday, August the 7rh, 2012 and I’m over here at Wailuku [Maui, Hawaii] and I’m just going to document here the, well they call it a correctional center.

Barbed wire across the top.

I’m just going to take a bit of a walk here. This is in Wailuku. I looked up the name of this facility but haven’t quite remembered it. Uh, maybe it’s called Wailuku [sic] Correctional Center.

Apparently rehab programs and everything in there. But—

It also says “No Trespassing” on that side so that’s one of the things I’m going to make sure I don’t do. I’m staying on this side.

Having been researching Security in Canada —specifically municipal security, I can see the video surveillance cameras there bristling among the also-bristling barbed wire.

Maui Community Correctional Center video surveillance, Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii (aka Jail)

It’s really interesting because on this side of the road is Freedom.

So it’s kind of the contrast of what a street can do. People being on the right side over here with the video surveillance cameras. Look at that. And the barbed wire.

And over on this side, hibiscus and no fence at all. So.

I also went and read what are the rules of the facility including such things as photography. There is nothing against that. But in the process I was also reading about the rules of just Visitation.

And it was really interesting because one of the things that they said was, women who are having their menstrual periods are required to take off their pads and put on new ones when they’re visiting inmates here. Possibly because they might be smuggling something personal in the pads, I’m not sure.

But what was really interesting was —they had to provide their own pads. It wouldn’t be something that the correctional facility would do on its own.

It is my understanding that women are housed here as well as men.

And yeah, it’s quite the video surveillance. Let’s see if I can get that one right there. I’m pretty good at this. Had a lot of practice with the Security hacks in my own municipality. I’m not saying the people here are of the same ilk.

But you can see here just this massive row of barbed wire all the way across. Anyway.

And over on this side. Freedom.

So. We’re parked over here.

[waiting at crosswalk]

[inaudible] That person’s letting me go. This person’s also letting me go. And now of course I’ve got to do a very quick jaywalk across the street.

But again, here’s the Maui  mountains over here. Lush, I guess it’s the Kehalani subdivision. And across the street? You would not want to rent a room on that side!

Turning camera off.

Warren Kinsella’s Sun column, “Images can seal fate of politicians” explains Mayor Rob Ford-with-neo-Nazi photo

July 28th, 2012

I’m sure by now you’ve seen the photograph of Mayor Rob Ford smiling next to a neo-Nazi.

The July 26, 2012 Toronto Sun article, “Rob Ford takes heat for New Year’s levee photo with neo-Nazi” showed this photograph of Mayor Rob Ford.

Mayor Rob Ford is seen at this year's New Year's levee at city hall with former Neo-Nazi musician Jon Latvis. (Facebook photo)

That Warren Kinsella of Daisy Consulting Group was somehow behind the release of this photo came as no surprise to me.

The Sun article had this to say about Warren Kinsella who (reminder) was Rob Trewartha’s boss on November 9, 2011.

“Liberal insider Warren Kinsella called Ford out Thursday on the photo, going as far to post it on his own website and asking ‘Why is Toronto’s mayor palsy with a former neo-Nazi icon?’”

And:

The mayor’s office confirmed the photo was taken at City Hall in January during the mayor’s New Year’s levee.

And:

During this year’s levee, Ford shook hands with around 800 people in the City Hall rotunda.

Toronto Sun senior associate editor, Lorrie Goldstein sure nailed it in his tweet:

Lorrie Goldstein@sunlorrie

So now mayors have to know ID of everyone who comes to their levy? Seriously? Ford takes heat for photo with neo-Nazi http://ow.ly/cwWVa

It was only July 7, 2012 when Kinsella’s column, “Images can seal fate of politicians” appeared in the Toronto Sun.

Kinsella’s first paragraph:

Words are about information. Pictures are about emotion. Emotion equals power

And his last three:

What’s the moral? The moral is that people’s lives are busy. They don’t have time anymore to read as much as they would like. And they reckon that they can learn more by looking at someone — really looking at them — than they can by reading about them.

As she contemplates the wreckage that is her career, Bev Oda should reflect on the cliche, you know, about a picture being worth 1,000 words.

We looked at that picture. And we didn’t like what we saw.

Today, July 28, 2012 when you Google Search for “ROB FORD” and “NEO-NAZI” you get “About 46,100 results”

And who knows how many of this Ford/neo-nazi photo in Traditional Media (television, newspapers, magazines)?

Kinsella’s book, “The War Room” deals with how to win in politics in the 21st Century, often by playing dirty.  Published in 2007 his message is: Spinners, Get thee to the Internet. It’s “free”.

Clearly Kinsella was playing dirty and doing this to Ford and his “war room”!

LOVE LETTER TO EZRA LEVANT from www.mississaugawatch.ca

Today’s blog was written primarily to defend Mayor Rob Ford (for the record I’m liberal) —and to provide further context into Rob Trewartha, former senior consultant in Warren Kinsella’s Daisy Consulting Group and currently Mississauga Councillor Bonnie Crombie’s executive assistant.

Rob Trewartha, senior consultant for Warren Kinsella's Daisy Consulting Group (now Mississauga Councillor Bonnie Crombie's executive assistant) assists mega-developer Harold Shipp after the December 2, 2009 "Friends of Hazel" Rally.

And!

I’ll also use this opportunity to repeat my original The War Room” blog below.

Warren Kinsella’s “The War Room” unmasks Bonnie Crombie’s executive assistant, Rob “Daisy Consulting” Trewartha

 July 23rd, 2012

On July 5, 2012 I began reading, Warren Kinsella’s “The War Room”, at the recommendation of Rob Trewartha, senior consultant (and fellow Liberal spinner) at Kinsella’s Daisy Consulting Group.

“The War Room” filled in large puzzle pieces that both the McMurtry/Curling “Roots of Youth Violence” and the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry’s “Updating Ethical Infrastructure” failed to mention.

One being:

“Politics is a nasty, unpleasant, mean-spirited business, which is presumably why some of us are drawn to it. (Many of us are nasty, unpleasant, and mean-spirited people. “

–Warren Kinsella, The War Room, p. 72.

From “The War Room” I learned that nasty, unpleasant, mean-spirited politicians hire nasty, unpleasant, and mean-spirited media relations spinners who run their campaign war rooms and once elected, morph into “assistants”.

All of which makes Mayor Hazel McCallion’s March 17, 2008 Audit Committee utterance

“I hope that the people we hire are sensitive to the fact that we are dealing with the public and we should give them every understanding possible.”

an even bigger lie than the “Yes, absolutely” she got in response from City of Mississauga Corporate Security’s nasty, unpleasant, and mean-spirited Manager, Jamie Hillis.

Enough! Here’s the video. Complete with transcript.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, reporting July 19, 2012

It is Thursday, July 19th, 2012 and last week I finished reading, “The War Room” by Warren Kinsella.

And what I plan on doing is now re-reading, “The War Room” by Warren Kinsella.

And to be clear and for the record, the reason why I’m reading and re-reading, “The War Room” by Warren Kinsella is I get insight into an interesting individual by the name of Rob Trewartha.

I wanted this for the record that I first learned about Rob Trewartha on June 15th 2011. He happened to have written a Letter to the Editor in the Mississauga News.

Rob Trewartha's June 14, 2011 Mississauga News Letter to the Editor. This was the way this Liberal spin doctor caught out attention.

And like a true spinner, because Trewartha is, at the time, senior consultant to Warren Kinsella’s Daisy Consulting. And was part of certainly Dalton McGuinty’s war room.

And what I’m going to do is play that video now.

[Video insert of MISSISSAUGAWATCH June 15, 2011 report begins]

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, reporting June 15, 2011

It is Wednesday, June the 15, 2011 and this is what the Toronto Star looks like.

And what I want to do is just go to a Mississauga News Letter to the Editor by a guy named Rob Trewartha. And I just want to read it and offer some context.

He writes:

Too much

Dear Editor:

I want my $25 back.

I seem to recall during the 2010 municipal campaign that many candidates and councillors including George Carlson—

[Video insert of MISSISSAUGAWATCH June 15, 2011 report ends]

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, reporting July 19, 2012

Anyway, he writes about the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry. Obviously opposes it.

And he questions the price tag.

And now he says he wants his $25.00 back.

And what Rob Trewartha fails to mention is exactly who he is.

He’s not just your average Mississauga resident.

So what I did back then was Google “Rob Trewartha”. And that might be good for you to do as well.

And it led to some really interesting revelations on this guy.

And one of the things about researching —and being really tenacious about researching, is that you follow all kinds of tangents. Many of them are dead ends and you know, it’s not necessarily a waste. You learn something in the process.

But in the case of Googling “Rob Trewartha”, I hate on a splendid piece of luck.

[Video insert of MISSISSAUGAWATCH June 15, 2011 report begins]

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, reporting June 15, 2011

—where he writes, “If Mississaugans were given the truth upfront.”

“If Mississaugans were given the truth upfront.”

If Trewartha had given the truth upfront about what he was like and has given context, Mississaugans would have a better idea of why he’s motivated to write that.

And you go and you check his Facebook page, uh, let’s go back right here.

There’s Rob Trewartha. And you’ll see here he’s with Don Cherry and Hazel McCallion (laughs) right? So the truth right up front which is hidden in the Mississauga News Letter to the Editor is that, well, let’s take a look at this one here with Don Cherry.

Someone is asking what is Grapes, meaning, Don Cherry doing?

And Trewartha says, oh, “At least year’s rally for Hazel. I helped [to] organize it.

Rob Trewartha, senior consultant for Warren Kinsella's Daisy Consulting Group (now Mississauga Councillor Bonnie Crombie's executive assistant) assists mega-developer Harold Shipp after the December 2, 2009 "Friends of Hazel" Rally.

[Video insert of MISSISSAUGAWATCH June 15, 2011 report ends]

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, reporting July 19, 2012

And that’s why I’m interested in Rob Trewartha. He helped organize the “Friends of Hazel” Rally. December 2nd, 2009.

Rob Trewartha, senior consultant for Warren Kinsella's Daisy Consulting Group (now Mississauga Councillor Bonnie Crombie's executive assistant) surveys the almost empty Mississauga Convention Centre after the December 2, 2009 "Friends of Hazel" Rally

To explain why that is important to me —that’s not the point of this video.

The point of this video is that Rob Trewartha, who wrote that back in June 15, 2011 —I didn’t know at the time, that he was senior consultant to Warren Kinsella’s Daisy Consulting Group.

And I have done intensive research on the individuals involved in the “Friends of Hazel” Rally.

And what’s interesting is that they —these people can be described as Hazel McCallion’s and Bonnie Crombie’s War Room.

So why am I reading “The War Room”?

Well. Rob Trewartha actually recommended it to me.

Rob Trewartha gave his boss Warren Kinsella's "The War Room" a 5-star rating on indigo.ca

It is Monday, July the 16th, 2012 and this is what the Toronto Star looks like.

And I just want to go and document “The War Room” by Warren Kinsella here at Indigo.ca.

And the review was written by Rob Trewartha five years ago. So let me just read this for the record.

“An extension to his 2001 work Kicking Ass in Canadian Politics, The War Room is an updated look at political campaigning in the 21st century. In this book Kinsella provides a “how to” manual of sorts to anyone looking to run a public relations campaign. His primary rule – and subsequently the dominant theme of the book – which he admits he borrowed from James Carville (a.k.a “God”), is to leave no charge unanswered; if hit, hit back. Each chapter is structured as a lesson (10 in total), including one of my favourites titled, ‘Get the Handle Scandal Manual!'”

This is from Warren Kinsella. And it was uploaded as you can see here, September 30, 2008.

Hi. It’s War at Arm’s Length. Um. What we wanted to do for you here today my colleague and I, Rob, is recreate for you what happens in the speech-writing shop in Stephen Harper’s office.

Okay. So. We’re speech writers.

Postscript.

And it was only on July 19, 2012 that careful analysis confirmed Rob Trewartha of Daisy Consulting Group in three of Donald Barber’s hi-resolution photographs of the December 2, 2009 “Friends of Hazel” Rally.

I’m most grateful to Donald Barber for the superb, crisp photographs he generously provided back in January 2010. Without them I would not have “seen” let alone made the connection. My cameras just weren’t as good.

Last. And just because I can, I went back to video of the “Friends of Hazel” Rally just to see if my camera had managed to pick up any presence of Daisy Consulting Group’s senior spinmeister. And sure enough —2.11 seconds in total.

Enough to produce a video-parody.

But in the case of Googling “Rob Trewartha”, I hit on a splendid piece of luck.

If Trewartha had given the truth upfront about what he was like and had given context, Mississaugans would have a better idea of why he’s motivated to write that.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, reporting July 19, 2012

And that’s why I’m interested in Rob Trewartha. He helped organize the “Friends of Hazel” Rally. December 2nd, 2009.

Sick of the usual take on Danzig/Scarborough shootings? Here’s the TRUEth about youth violence prevention

July 21st, 2012

It’s either no one has a memory or there’s just more of the same Pretend going on.

Reminder to readers, since no one else seems willing to do this.

What follows is a partial Youth Violence Prevention chronology.

June 11, 2007 press release:  Premier Dalton McGuinty announced that he has asked former Chief Justice and Attorney General Roy McMurtry and former Speaker of the Legislature Alvin Curling to review what more we can do, together, to ensure Ontario’s young people and our communities are safe. “We’re launching this review because no parent should ever have to worry about losing their child to violence,” said Premier McGuinty.

Yes. That Premier McGuinty. The same McGuinty whose Finance Minister admitted their campaign team decided to scrap the Mississauga power plant when the Liberals trailed in the polls just days before last fall’s election. The $190 million cost to taxpayers has been described as vote-buying at its worst.

It’s also the same Dalton McGuinty whose Ontario’s health minister refuses to take responsibility for the “extravagant, reckless and incompetent” Ornge air ambulance clusterfuckshiteri.

And it’s the same Dalton McGuinty Liberals who lavished $2.7 million on the lame McMurtry/Curling “Review of the Roots of Youth Violence” —a study that relied exclusively on public documents and interviews. “Researchers” didn’t file a single Freedom of Information request to dig up the real story.

Willful blindness.

Here’s Premier Dad’s announcement on video.

Getting To The Roots Of Youth Violence Uploaded by on June 12, 2007 (2:30 min)

(Click here to go directly to the clip on YouTube)

Four months later, October 25, 2007, Mississauga Councillor, Pat Saito, trumpeted the “phenomenal” success of the Peel Youth Violence Prevention Committee’s less than two years of operation.

The Peel Youth Violence Prevention success was so “phenomenal” that Saito used the word “phenomenal” four times mixed in with two “amazing”s in less than three minutes of pure rancid bullshit.

Here she is!

Mississauga Councillor on Peel Youth Violence Prevention Network’s “phenomenal” success. (3:07 min)

(Click here to go directly to the clip on YouTube)

Bullshit galloping. I don’t call my city “MYTHissauga” for nothing.

You want to know why so many youth violence prevention programs don’t work?

Look no further than the likes of Mississauga Councillor Pat Saito who absolutely refuses to conduct authentic assessment of program effectiveness (Can you say “Deb Matthews”?). After all, it’s far more efficient just to lie about an entity’s accomplishments (can you spell “Ornge”?).

True story.

I sat in and observed the Peel Youth Violence Prevention Network’s “Education and Policy Working Group” meetings. (So many salaries seated around a table once a month). Yet our group made so little progress I decided to sit in on the Steering Committee meetings just to see what our Working Group’s Chair was actually reporting to The Steering Suits.

And oh my! Just as I suspected! She either fabricated or inflated our Group’s “successes”.

And that’s when I knew.

Youth workers, at least in Peel, are hired for their ability sling Positive Bullshit with evangelical zeal. And just like little municipal Deb Matthews, the Politicos accepted each verbal “update” as Truth.

Any doubters out there, I have most of these Peel Youth Violence Prevention Committee meetings on audio.

As I said I was part of the Peel Youth Violence Prevention Network’s “Education and Policy Working Group”. Then it folded.

Steering Committee Chair Gael Miles insisted however that our working group didn’t “fold” but rather “merged” with another group since we completed our mandate of educating and discussing policy!

That was the Fall of 2008.

Finished discussing policy?! Aside from part of one meeting to talk about the Safe Schools Act, that was it on Policy.

And get this.

It was only two weeks ago that I learned THE REGION OF PEEL HAS NO PUBLIC COMPLAINTS POLICY!

So why weren’t we, the Network’s “Education and Policy Working Group” informed of that back in 2007-08?

Deception. Lies. Persistent pretend. Fabricating success. And the funding money wasted! The hallmarks of at-risk youth programs.

And Peel can’t be the only one.

Which brings me to the greatest truth about youth violence prevention initiatives and our Governments of Pretend.

“…all I can say is of all the panels I sit on the first question that is asked is ‘Where are the young people? We are talking about them but they’re not with us.

Young people are very frustrated because there’s a lot of panels. Oh the reports that are written about “all the money we gotta spend!” and they’re very frustrated with the system right now. That’s why they don’t come to a lot of these things because the truth is because they don’t believe in what’s happening.”

—Pastor Andrew King, speaking on Youth Violence, Brampton, November 25, 2008

The Truth about Brampton and Mississauga Youth Anti-Violence Panels. Pastor Andrew King (Etobicoke) (0:47 min)

(Click here to go directly to the clip on YouTube)

“because the truth is because they don’t believe in what’s happening.”

And you can thank the Pat Saito politicians out there —because they’re the norm.

And “Super Mayor” Hazel McCallion and her  “We should concentrate on the 98 per cent that are good youth.”

Any wonder that the anthem for the 2% “bad youth” is “They don’t give a fuck about us”?

2pac – They Don’t Give A Fuck About Us . (5:37 min)

(Click here to go directly to the clip on YouTube)

“The truth is that we, as a society—all of us—simply don’t consider children very important. We talk a good game but we don’t think kids are as important as other things, like fixing the roads.”

—a quote by Jim Paul Nevins (Ontario Court Judge October 4, 2001 report)

ONTARIO MUNICIPALITIES: A MAJOR (unexplored) ROOT OF YOUTH VIOLENCE

Take it from someone who’s filed close to $4,000 worth of Freedom of Information. “The System is corrupt. There is no way to fix it”.

Signed,

MISSISSAUGAWATCH

MISSISSAUGA CITY HALL (AMO, OMERS, MYTHissauga Inc) ---morally beyond redemption

“…the system is CORRUPT and this is why there is youth violence this is why there are guns on the street and drugs in the hands of children the youth are fighting with the system because it is CORRUPT there is no way to fix it because the people higher up are sitting nice in their big leather chairs, driving their nice cars, living their perfect life when some people in this world have to work hard to get by and even by doing so they get nothing, and after they realize how hard they have to work to get by they break down and no longer want to live life being part of the system because they realize that living life by the rules of the system gets you no where because it is CORRUPT!”

City of Mississauga Corporate Security: Mayor Hazel McCallion’s Secretive Police Force

June 26th, 2012

For the record, the following video documents the Digital Ally video event recorder tucked inside each City of Mississauga Corporate Security Response Unit as well as March 18, 2012 footage of two City of Mississauga Response Units parked outside Peel Police 11 Division at Dundas and Erin Mills Parkway.

As usual, we provide a video transcript.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, reporting from inside City of Mississauga Corporate Security “677” Response Unit,  June 19, 2012

It is Tuesday, June the 19th, 2012 and you won’t believe this, but I’m leaning against and inside a City of Mississauga “knob unit” —”677″. And I’ve come primarily to check on the Digital Ally that was, that I noticed, I guess it was Friday, when I was videotaping it at Celebration Square.

And I was very fortunate because I’ve had the opportunity to talk to Peel Regional Police as well as the OPP. And both Peel Police and OPP do not use video systems in their cruisers.

In the case of the OPP; however, they said they’d love to have them, but you know the problem with money.

But what we have here are security guards that are using Digital Ally in their Police Package Dodge Chargers!

And what I want to do is I just want to take some pictures here. And especially of this.

And of course, I’m videotaping myself because it’s—

I tell you something. It’s really hot in here too.

[to cute little kid 9/10 years old now sitting in the passenger seat] Thank you. That’s cool.

[CROSS DISSOLVE]

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, driving south on Erin Mills Parkway to Peel Regional Police 11 Division,  March 18, 2012

It is Sunday, March the 18th 2012, —day after St. Patrick’s Day.

And it just occurred to me that I need to file a report.

And I’m going to go here at the Peel Police 11 Division because the Response Units —two City of Mississauga Response Units, that I had seen earlier— I’d gone to buy a Subway in Streetsville and noticed one of —the Response Units —were going together along, let me see, Britannia.

And the one that was following actually had its lights going. And I found that suspicious.

And then later on, I’m driving, just because I like to drive my Dodge Charger [turns off car] and was going this way —let me just do this a little bit here on an angle. There we go.

It’s the —can’t see it from here, I think it’s the “677”, “678” car. It doesn’t matter.

The thing is that I’ll be filing Freedom of Information on what the incident is. And it has to be because like I said, one of those Response Units had their back lights flashing. And now that they’re here I can only assume that —just go back a little bit— that they may have brought a prisoner. And dropped him off here at Peel Police.

And one thing I want, for the record, and it’s important to say —when anybody gets confronted by these security guards, you’re in big trouble. They lie.

[DIP TO WHITE]

City Staff lie!

Ken Owen, Director, City of Mississauga Facilities/Property Management and Corporate Security, March 28, 2012

It is your opinion—

MISSISSAUGAWATCH interview with Ken Owen, March 26, 2012

No. This is on video.

Ken Owen, Director, City of Mississauga Facilities/Property Management and Corporate Security, March 28, 2012

It is your opinion that City Staff lie and I take exception to that.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH interview with Ken Owen, March 26, 2012

Okay.

Ken Owen, Director, City of Mississauga Facilities/Property Management and Corporate Security, March 26, 2012

City Staff are professional, honest and hard-working and your allegations of lying are completely without foundation.

So stop saying that they lie. They do not lie.

[DIP TO WHITE]

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, driving south on Erin Mills Parkway to Peel Regional Police 11 Division,  March 18, 2012

They have nothing! Nothing in the way of Ethics. Or oversight. And I mean the two go hand-in-hand.

So. One thing I do not want is now for [starts car] you know, to be here and having those security guards walk out and see me here.

So. It’s time to bugger off.

Last. Had to laugh when I was working up this video. As I was examining the June 19th footage, the audio picked up a City of Mississauga Security guard refer to the Digital Ally as a “Digital System” rather than a “Video System”. Or more accurately an on-board video event recorder.

Even funnier (and absolutely shameless) was the City of Mississauga Security guard who told the public “We’re a great service”.

HAHAHAHAAHAHA!

Normally I’d file a complaint but I know the City’s Security public complaints process is totally fraudulent! (And yes, I’m laughing as I type this.)

Mississauga Council Code of Conduct shields Senior City Staff from Integrity Commissioner —MISSISSAUGAWATCH deputation

June 16th, 2012

For the record, this video was presented as a deputation at the June 11, 2012 Governance Committee meeting.

Complete with transcript.

Mississauga Council Code of Conduct shields Senior City Staff from Integrity Commissioner  (14:03 min)

(Click here to go directly to the clip on YouTube)

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, introducing the video deputation June 10, 2012

I just posted these [photographs] to the internet the other day. And I got an immediate response.

Seems these are photographs of Mississauga’s very first girl’s hockey team –circa 1965/66. Erindale. That’s me.

And that’s me right here playing right wing to Mabel Boyd on left.

And reaching further back, that’s me and my grandfather beside the Miles Lane bridge over the Cooksville Creek circa 1953 before Hurricane Hazel came and washed the entire bridge out.

So why do I show this?

Photographs — speak to History.

As for video? That’s how History speaks!

The video clips span from May 2008 when Councillor Mullin first suggested “an ombudsman” to address complaints against City Staff to the April 16, 2012 Governance Committee meeting discussions.

Listen carefully and see if you can recognize the most important comment ever made by a City of Mississauga elected official regarding authentic accountability.

Meaning –if you were to take this video and cut it into a one minute clip, what would be the all-important take home message?

And that’s a challenge for you. See if you can recognize Real?

[VIDEO INSERT Mississauga Council meeting, May 21 2008 BEGINS]

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, whispering into camera, Mississauga Council meeting, May 21 2008

This is the one.

Mayor Hazel McCallion, Mississauga Council meeting, May 21 2008

Councillor Mullin? Thank you.

Councillor Pat Mullin, Mississauga Council meeting, May 21 2008

Yes, I read “R-4”. And I guess my question, and this is regarding the whole complaints issue, with regards to Don Barber at the Council meetings.

And there is an addition to this which talks about the possibility of an investigator. And I guess my concern with that would be, well first of all is that the cost of relatively significant.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, whispering into camera, Mississauga Council meeting, May 21 2008

Use the Ontario Ombudsman.

Councillor Pat Mullin, Mississauga Council meeting, May 21 2008

And how many times would an investigator have to come forward to take a look at complaints.

But I guess I’m looking for some direction from possibly Staff if there is something that we can put in place which would be, I guess would be a complaint procedure —against Staff. And maybe somebody could respond.

Or if there’s another way in terms of looking at it.

I talked to Mary Ellen Bench about it and I mean I’m wondering if there is something like maybe the ombudsman that could take a look at something like this.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, whispering into camera, Mississauga Council meeting, May 21 2008

Yeah, yeah.

Councillor Pat Mullin, Mississauga Council meeting, May 21 2008

And it just seems to me that it would be an ongoing scenario—

Mayor Hazel McCallion, Mississauga Council meeting, May 21 2008

Yuh.

Councillor Pat Mullin, Mississauga Council meeting, May 21 2008

—and a continuation. And never a satisfaction at the end of the day. That we would be just putting more and more money into this.

[VIDEO INSERT Mississauga Council meeting, May 21 2008 ENDS]

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, narrating the video deputation June 10, 2012

And then May 2010. Me. Unprepared, incoherent —and ineffective in front of Mississauga General Committee.

[VIDEO INSERT Mississauga General Committee meeting, May 19 2010 BEGINS]

Councillor Eve Adams, Mississauga General Committee meeting, May 19, 2010

Good morning and welcome.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, Mississauga General Committee meeting, May 19, 2010

Good morning Councillor Adams and Council.

I came here to discuss the minutes of meetings and then walked in a saw the —this one here, if I could have this [over head projector] on the [Council] Code of Conduct for integrity commissioner.

And I consider that way more important than anything I have to say about minutes.

So I kind of regret that I didn’t know about this.

You can’t just switch, can you?

Councillor Eve Adams, Mississauga General Committee meeting, May 19, 2010

It actually is on the agenda so you can speak to it.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, Mississauga General Committee meeting, May 19, 2010

Yeah, but I’m not good on my feet. I need to prepare ahead of time. I’m not swift.

But I was hoping that —this is really important.

If people remember, it was Councillor Mullin who had said that there were issues that are chronically coming up regarding —and she was mentioning Donald Barber as an example.

And she had recommended that, you know, once and for all, to deal with it. And this is how, I think, the idea of the integrity commissioner came up.

And I also recall I had urged Councillor —I think Councillor Saito was going to lead the charge on this.

And I asked her to invite the Ontario Ombudsman in to address Council to give them some idea as to how to set up an integrity commissioner.

This is —you know, I’ve been observing Mississauga Council since June 14, 2006. And I’m talking about audiotape, videotape and stuff like that.

This has got to be the most important Corporate Report and direction. Certainly from the view of treatment of citizens and Ethical Infrastructure. And this thing did not go through Audit Committee, for example.

It just kind of showed up here and Staff is recommending that you accept it.

There’s not any possibility for public input. I don’t even know if it’s been run through [the] public.

And you know I would think that first you’d check to see the validity of the public complaints system that you already have in place. The one for Corporate Security and the generic ones. And whether those are being handled properly.

Because if they’re not —and I’m saying they’re not, and I’ve got Freedom of Information saying it, so, you know, the fact that, the fact that —well, okay, it’s not a fact because it’s based on evidence but it’s sort of ultimately my conclusions. And somebody else could look at the evidence and see it differently.

But for me, I’d question any integrity commissioner —or a process here, because I just don’t see the Ethical Infrastructure in place to support something like that—

—Mayor McCallion was giving an address at UTM last week and I was there. And she was talking about public input and the importance of it.

And this [Corporate Report] just came up and could be rubber-stamped today and that’s it.

So I would hope that Council might look at this and say, “You know this is really important. Let’s put some —let the public look at this and talk about it.”

Anyway, I’m hoping that —I’ll be preparing for this at Council. Because I’m better —I’m very scattered [inaudible] I’m sorry.

[VIDEO INSERT Mississauga General Committee meeting, May 19 2010 ENDS]

[VIDEO INSERT  MISSISSAUGAWATCH Governance Committee April 16 2010 video deputation BEGINS]

 MISSISSAUGAWATCH, reporting April 14, 2012

And that was May 21, 2008 and that issue still hasn’t been addressed. It hasn’t.

And while there’s now an integrity commissioner in place to file complaints against elected officials, there still is no consistent person —ombudsman or integrity commissioner, or otherwise, to deal with complaints against City Staff.

And that includes everything right up to the Commissioners and the City Manager.

So it’s interesting to look at the May 21, 2008 video and see that [shakes head and gestures, “WTF”]. And that’s the other thing I would request is for the Governance Committee to perhaps consider expanding the mandate of the Integrity Commissioner to also include complaints against City Staff.

Thanks.

[VIDEO INSERT MISSISSAUGAWATCH Governance Committee April 16 2010 video deputation ENDS]

[VIDEO INSERT Mississauga Governance Committee discussion April 16 2010 BEGINS]

Thank you.

Councillor Jim Tovey (Chair), Mississauga Governance Committee meeting, April 16, 2012

Okay, hang on a second, Ursula.

Councillor Chris Fonseca, Mississauga Governance Committee meeting, April 16, 2012

I think Councillor Saito’s point, I think for all of us, when we’re looking at this over-review of governance —her point about you get out of it what you put into it, is really important in terms of understanding the process of when a complaint is made.   Whether it be internally amongst councillors— Whether it be from a member of the public towards one of the council-members or from a member of the public towards Staff.

But I’m —Councillor Saito and Councillor Carlson —you just, Councillor Saito, you just spoke for Councillor Carlson, I guess, in saying that you’d be willing to look at —if there’s a way that we can look at including, perhaps, I don’t know, we would have to have more discussion around the Leadership Team.

But I think for all of us, including the Leadership Team and Council, we’re committed to this Governance Committee, specifically because we want to make sure that we move forward for the City of Mississauga —that we have a transparent and clear path when it comes to a complaint process, a Code of Conduct, and also in terms of an independent person who is working to analyze and review that whole process.

So thank you for coming.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, Mississauga Governance Committee meeting, April 16, 2012

Thank you.

Another wildlife in the city today. This time on the 401 this morning.

Traffic volume from the morning commute was still high when a family of geese wandered off the grass, onto the side of the highway around Midland Avenue, coming dangerously close to passing cars.

An OPP officer came to the rescue using his cruiser to block traffic and escort the birds down the shoulder.

But then they got away, running out in front of the police car and crossing all the eastbound lanes of the busy highway.

Having been outmaneuvered in the car, the officer turns into a foot-chase mode and with the help of a passing trucker he gets traffic stopped so he can herd the birds to the other side.

And finally, a few minutes later, at the end of the guardrail, they make it back to safety.

All in a day’s work for one provincial police officer. And a trucker.

Graffiti Mississauga Report: “FTP” (Fuck the Police), “FUCK THE WORLD”, “FREEDOM”. Is the message changing?

May 28th, 2012

What follows is a long long overdue MISSISSAUGA graffiti report.

Graffiti Mississauga: “FTP” (Fuck the Police), “FUCK THE WORLD”, “FREEDOM”. Is the message changing? (7:48 min)

(Click here to go directly to the clip on YouTube)

MISSISSAUGAWATCH reporting from undisclosed graffiti study site in Mississauga, May 25, 2012

It is Friday May the 24th or 25th, I forget. And I’m coming back to a site that I had discovered a few days ago. All I can tell you about this site right now is that it is one of my graffiti sites.

And oh, in the Fall, the entire area had been completely buffed and erased. I mean completely obliterated. All the graffiti.

And on a hunch I returned last week and discovered quite a bit of it, including this particular truck. And of particular interest to me at that time was “FTP”. “FTP”. “FTP” —which means “Fuck the Police”.

And I didn’t recognize this tag here, but I think it might now be one that I noticed yesterday in a different location. But I’m not sure.

On this particular truck alone, you’ve got one, two —and I think that’s an “FTP” too. And then an “FTP” here.

So that’s, gosh, just in here alone, quite a few “Fuck the Police”.

And this is something new. Anti-police messages like “FTP” just isn’t part of Mississauga graffiti. And then it just kind of explodes on the scene right here.

Now you’ll recognize this as the side of the truck. But it’s also here with a tag and and an “FTP” right there.

Although just so that you know, I consider this one incident. Even though there might be six “FTP”s there. I consider it one event.

Now I just drove that way to check some of the other buildings where this material had been sprayed. And I swear it was this week —this week that I documented this—

MISSISSAUGAWATCH reporting from undisclosed graffiti study site in Mississauga, May 22, 2012

It is Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012 and I’ve returned to one of my graffiti study sites here at the City of Mississauga.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH reporting from undisclosed graffiti study site in Mississauga, May 25, 2012

—and it’s already erased.

And that’s why I say it’s really important for me to videotape and document graffiti as quickly as I see it because it can be erased as quickly —and it’s happened, as quickly as 24 hours later.

But I want to talk a little bit too about something that I noticed yesterday and I already put up on the Internet. There’s a different tone now to the kind of graffiti that is re-emerging after what I call “The Big Erase” which occurred back in the Summer of 2011.

So it’s taken a long time for example, for this area, to have the graffiti come back.

And what’s interesting and I cannot explain is to have so much “FTP”s —”Fuck the Police” here. Because that’s one of the things that made Mississauga/Peel so extraordinary compared to, for example, the graffiti in the City of Hamilton.

[photograph inserts of anti-police graffiti from the City of Hamilton September 13, 2009]

At the the City of Hamilton, my God, there was [sic] “FTP”s down one entire road, every telephone pole had “FTP”, every utility box.

And not just “FTP” but “FUCK THE POLICE” on sidewalks, on picket fences, it was everywhere!

And by contrast, you just didn’t see that here at the City of Mississauga.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH reporting from another undisclosed graffiti study site in Mississauga, May 25, 2012

Okay. Here’s the other one. Let’s show that to you.

And I’d mentioned there’s the interesting message, “FUCK THE WORLD”. And about the only thing that I will say is this is within a two minute/three minute walk from where we just were, where there were all those “FTP”s for “Fuck the Police”.

There just seems to be at this point, and I’m not sure, but there seems to be right now, a difference in tone, in the kind of graffiti that I am seeing re-emerge after what I call “The Big Erase of Summer 2011”.

So. I guess the only other thing I want to talk about this difference in tone—

—is we’re seeing protests emerging. And I’m looking at the anger that’s still out there for G20 which happened in June 2010.

Here it’s almost June 2012 and people are still upset about police-protester interaction and the arrests and the abuse of authority.

And I’m now following the Quebec student protest and the remarkable footage by CUTV —Concordia University livestreaming. Its fascinating and superb job that they’re doing —pretty much citizen journalism.

Traditional Media —forget about it.

The best commentary and coverage I’m discovering are such things like CUTV or TimCast in Chicago, who is covering the NATO protests.

It’s right on the ground and it’s real. and I can tell you it’s real because—

—I was providing video coverage of the G20 on, I think it was June 26, was it? And it’s real when you’re right there and you’re actually removed from the site and so on.

But I guess what I want to document and report on is: Will the nature of graffiti change as more young people and youth become more restless?

Will you get more messages like “FTP” and “Fuck the World”? I don’t know.

However, there is one site that I haven’t looked at for a while. And it turned out back in April 2009, when I first decided I was going to research graffiti.

It was actually the first site that I had —the first true graffiti wall. And I was so excited about it. That I actually found something. Anyway, let’s go there right now.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH reporting from yet another undisclosed graffiti study site in Mississauga, May 25, 2012

A tree got in the way. It says “ACID”. So that’s new —but again, that could be the name of the tagger.

This is new. “FREEDOM”.

There really does seem to be —look at this. I’ll just take that here. [throws car into Park]

“FREEDOM”.

There really does seem to be —a change.

As I said, we’re starting to get messages.

There’s something different happening.
