Warren Kinsella’s Sun column, “Images can seal fate of politicians” explains Mayor Rob Ford-with-neo-Nazi photo

July 28th, 2012

I’m sure by now you’ve seen the photograph of Mayor Rob Ford smiling next to a neo-Nazi.

The July 26, 2012 Toronto Sun article, “Rob Ford takes heat for New Year’s levee photo with neo-Nazi” showed this photograph of Mayor Rob Ford.

Mayor Rob Ford is seen at this year's New Year's levee at city hall with former Neo-Nazi musician Jon Latvis. (Facebook photo)

That Warren Kinsella of Daisy Consulting Group was somehow behind the release of this photo came as no surprise to me.

The Sun article had this to say about Warren Kinsella who (reminder) was Rob Trewartha’s boss on November 9, 2011.

“Liberal insider Warren Kinsella called Ford out Thursday on the photo, going as far to post it on his own website and asking ‘Why is Toronto’s mayor palsy with a former neo-Nazi icon?’”

And:

The mayor’s office confirmed the photo was taken at City Hall in January during the mayor’s New Year’s levee.

And:

During this year’s levee, Ford shook hands with around 800 people in the City Hall rotunda.

Toronto Sun senior associate editor, Lorrie Goldstein sure nailed it in his tweet:

Lorrie Goldstein@sunlorrie

So now mayors have to know ID of everyone who comes to their levy? Seriously? Ford takes heat for photo with neo-Nazi http://ow.ly/cwWVa

It was only July 7, 2012 when Kinsella’s column, “Images can seal fate of politicians” appeared in the Toronto Sun.

Kinsella’s first paragraph:

Words are about information. Pictures are about emotion. Emotion equals power

And his last three:

What’s the moral? The moral is that people’s lives are busy. They don’t have time anymore to read as much as they would like. And they reckon that they can learn more by looking at someone — really looking at them — than they can by reading about them.

As she contemplates the wreckage that is her career, Bev Oda should reflect on the cliche, you know, about a picture being worth 1,000 words.

We looked at that picture. And we didn’t like what we saw.

Today, July 28, 2012 when you Google Search for “ROB FORD” and “NEO-NAZI” you get “About 46,100 results”

And who knows how many of this Ford/neo-nazi photo in Traditional Media (television, newspapers, magazines)?

Kinsella’s book, “The War Room” deals with how to win in politics in the 21st Century, often by playing dirty.  Published in 2007 his message is: Spinners, Get thee to the Internet. It’s “free”.

Clearly Kinsella was playing dirty and doing this to Ford and his “war room”!

LOVE LETTER TO EZRA LEVANT from www.mississaugawatch.ca

Today’s blog was written primarily to defend Mayor Rob Ford (for the record I’m liberal) —and to provide further context into Rob Trewartha, former senior consultant in Warren Kinsella’s Daisy Consulting Group and currently Mississauga Councillor Bonnie Crombie’s executive assistant.

Rob Trewartha, senior consultant for Warren Kinsella's Daisy Consulting Group (now Mississauga Councillor Bonnie Crombie's executive assistant) assists mega-developer Harold Shipp after the December 2, 2009 "Friends of Hazel" Rally.

And!

I’ll also use this opportunity to repeat my original The War Room” blog below.

Warren Kinsella’s “The War Room” unmasks Bonnie Crombie’s executive assistant, Rob “Daisy Consulting” Trewartha

 July 23rd, 2012

On July 5, 2012 I began reading, Warren Kinsella’s “The War Room”, at the recommendation of Rob Trewartha, senior consultant (and fellow Liberal spinner) at Kinsella’s Daisy Consulting Group.

“The War Room” filled in large puzzle pieces that both the McMurtry/Curling “Roots of Youth Violence” and the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry’s “Updating Ethical Infrastructure” failed to mention.

One being:

“Politics is a nasty, unpleasant, mean-spirited business, which is presumably why some of us are drawn to it. (Many of us are nasty, unpleasant, and mean-spirited people. “

–Warren Kinsella, The War Room, p. 72.

From “The War Room” I learned that nasty, unpleasant, mean-spirited politicians hire nasty, unpleasant, and mean-spirited media relations spinners who run their campaign war rooms and once elected, morph into “assistants”.

All of which makes Mayor Hazel McCallion’s March 17, 2008 Audit Committee utterance

“I hope that the people we hire are sensitive to the fact that we are dealing with the public and we should give them every understanding possible.”

an even bigger lie than the “Yes, absolutely” she got in response from City of Mississauga Corporate Security’s nasty, unpleasant, and mean-spirited Manager, Jamie Hillis.

Enough! Here’s the video. Complete with transcript.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, reporting July 19, 2012

It is Thursday, July 19th, 2012 and last week I finished reading, “The War Room” by Warren Kinsella.

And what I plan on doing is now re-reading, “The War Room” by Warren Kinsella.

And to be clear and for the record, the reason why I’m reading and re-reading, “The War Room” by Warren Kinsella is I get insight into an interesting individual by the name of Rob Trewartha.

I wanted this for the record that I first learned about Rob Trewartha on June 15th 2011. He happened to have written a Letter to the Editor in the Mississauga News.

Rob Trewartha's June 14, 2011 Mississauga News Letter to the Editor. This was the way this Liberal spin doctor caught out attention.

And like a true spinner, because Trewartha is, at the time, senior consultant to Warren Kinsella’s Daisy Consulting. And was part of certainly Dalton McGuinty’s war room.

And what I’m going to do is play that video now.

[Video insert of MISSISSAUGAWATCH June 15, 2011 report begins]

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, reporting June 15, 2011

It is Wednesday, June the 15, 2011 and this is what the Toronto Star looks like.

And what I want to do is just go to a Mississauga News Letter to the Editor by a guy named Rob Trewartha. And I just want to read it and offer some context.

He writes:

Too much

Dear Editor:

I want my $25 back.

I seem to recall during the 2010 municipal campaign that many candidates and councillors including George Carlson—

[Video insert of MISSISSAUGAWATCH June 15, 2011 report ends]

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, reporting July 19, 2012

Anyway, he writes about the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry. Obviously opposes it.

And he questions the price tag.

And now he says he wants his $25.00 back.

And what Rob Trewartha fails to mention is exactly who he is.

He’s not just your average Mississauga resident.

So what I did back then was Google “Rob Trewartha”. And that might be good for you to do as well.

And it led to some really interesting revelations on this guy.

And one of the things about researching —and being really tenacious about researching, is that you follow all kinds of tangents. Many of them are dead ends and you know, it’s not necessarily a waste. You learn something in the process.

But in the case of Googling “Rob Trewartha”, I hate on a splendid piece of luck.

[Video insert of MISSISSAUGAWATCH June 15, 2011 report begins]

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, reporting June 15, 2011

—where he writes, “If Mississaugans were given the truth upfront.”

“If Mississaugans were given the truth upfront.”

If Trewartha had given the truth upfront about what he was like and has given context, Mississaugans would have a better idea of why he’s motivated to write that.

And you go and you check his Facebook page, uh, let’s go back right here.

There’s Rob Trewartha. And you’ll see here he’s with Don Cherry and Hazel McCallion (laughs) right? So the truth right up front which is hidden in the Mississauga News Letter to the Editor is that, well, let’s take a look at this one here with Don Cherry.

Someone is asking what is Grapes, meaning, Don Cherry doing?

And Trewartha says, oh, “At least year’s rally for Hazel. I helped [to] organize it.

Rob Trewartha, senior consultant for Warren Kinsella's Daisy Consulting Group (now Mississauga Councillor Bonnie Crombie's executive assistant) assists mega-developer Harold Shipp after the December 2, 2009 "Friends of Hazel" Rally.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, reporting July 19, 2012

And that’s why I’m interested in Rob Trewartha. He helped organize the “Friends of Hazel” Rally. December 2nd, 2009.

Rob Trewartha, senior consultant for Warren Kinsella's Daisy Consulting Group (now Mississauga Councillor Bonnie Crombie's executive assistant) surveys the almost empty Mississauga Convention Centre after the December 2, 2009 "Friends of Hazel" Rally

To explain why that is important to me —that’s not the point of this video.

The point of this video is that Rob Trewartha, who wrote that back in June 15, 2011 —I didn’t know at the time, that he was senior consultant to Warren Kinsella’s Daisy Consulting Group.

And I have done intensive research on the individuals involved in the “Friends of Hazel” Rally.

And what’s interesting is that they —these people can be described as Hazel McCallion’s and Bonnie Crombie’s War Room.

So why am I reading “The War Room”?

Well. Rob Trewartha actually recommended it to me.

Rob Trewartha gave his boss Warren Kinsella's "The War Room" a 5-star rating on indigo.ca

It is Monday, July the 16th, 2012 and this is what the Toronto Star looks like.

And I just want to go and document “The War Room” by Warren Kinsella here at Indigo.ca.

And the review was written by Rob Trewartha five years ago. So let me just read this for the record.

“An extension to his 2001 work Kicking Ass in Canadian Politics, The War Room is an updated look at political campaigning in the 21st century. In this book Kinsella provides a “how to” manual of sorts to anyone looking to run a public relations campaign. His primary rule – and subsequently the dominant theme of the book – which he admits he borrowed from James Carville (a.k.a “God”), is to leave no charge unanswered; if hit, hit back. Each chapter is structured as a lesson (10 in total), including one of my favourites titled, ‘Get the Handle Scandal Manual!'”

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, reporting on Warren Kinsella’s YouTube video “W@AL: Live From Inside The PMO Speechwriting Shop!” July 19, 2012

It is Thursday, July the 19th, 2012 and this is what the Toronto Star looks like.

This is from Warren Kinsella. And it was uploaded as you can see here, September 30, 2008.

Warren Kinsella in YouTube video “W@AL: Live From Inside The PMO Speechwriting Shop!”

Hi. It’s War at Arm’s Length. Um. What we wanted to do for you here today my colleague and I, Rob, is recreate for you what happens in the speech-writing shop in Stephen Harper’s office.

Okay. So. We’re speech writers.

Postscript.

And it was only on July 19, 2012 that careful analysis confirmed Rob Trewartha of Daisy Consulting Group in three of Donald Barber’s hi-resolution photographs of the December 2, 2009 “Friends of Hazel” Rally.

I’m most grateful to Donald Barber for the superb, crisp photographs he generously provided back in January 2010. Without them I would not have “seen” let alone made the connection. My cameras just weren’t as good.

Last. And just because I can, I went back to video of the “Friends of Hazel” Rally just to see if my camera had managed to pick up any presence of Daisy Consulting Group’s senior spinmeister. And sure enough —2.11 seconds in total.

Enough to produce a video-parody.

Sick of the usual take on Danzig/Scarborough shootings? Here’s the TRUEth about youth violence prevention

July 21st, 2012

It’s either no one has a memory or there’s just more of the same Pretend going on.

Reminder to readers, since no one else seems willing to do this.

What follows is a partial Youth Violence Prevention chronology.

June 11, 2007 press release:  Premier Dalton McGuinty announced that he has asked former Chief Justice and Attorney General Roy McMurtry and former Speaker of the Legislature Alvin Curling to review what more we can do, together, to ensure Ontario’s young people and our communities are safe. “We’re launching this review because no parent should ever have to worry about losing their child to violence,” said Premier McGuinty.

Yes. That Premier McGuinty. The same McGuinty whose Finance Minister admitted their campaign team decided to scrap the Mississauga power plant when the Liberals trailed in the polls just days before last fall’s election. The $190 million cost to taxpayers has been described as vote-buying at its worst.

It’s also the same Dalton McGuinty whose Ontario’s health minister refuses to take responsibility for the “extravagant, reckless and incompetent” Ornge air ambulance clusterfuckshiteri.

And it’s the same Dalton McGuinty Liberals who lavished $2.7 million on the lame McMurtry/Curling “Review of the Roots of Youth Violence” —a study that relied exclusively on public documents and interviews. “Researchers” didn’t file a single Freedom of Information request to dig up the real story.

Willful blindness.

Here’s Premier Dad’s announcement on video.

Getting To The Roots Of Youth Violence Uploaded by on June 12, 2007 (2:30 min)

(Click here to go directly to the clip on YouTube)

Four months later, October 25, 2007, Mississauga Councillor, Pat Saito, trumpeted the “phenomenal” success of the Peel Youth Violence Prevention Committee’s less than two years of operation.

The Peel Youth Violence Prevention success was so “phenomenal” that Saito used the word “phenomenal” four times mixed in with two “amazing”s in less than three minutes of pure rancid bullshit.

Here she is!

Mississauga Councillor on Peel Youth Violence Prevention Network’s “phenomenal” success. (3:07 min)

(Click here to go directly to the clip on YouTube)

Bullshit galloping. I don’t call my city “MYTHissauga” for nothing.

You want to know why so many youth violence prevention programs don’t work?

Look no further than the likes of Mississauga Councillor Pat Saito who absolutely refuses to conduct authentic assessment of program effectiveness (Can you say “Deb Matthews”?). After all, it’s far more efficient just to lie about an entity’s accomplishments (can you spell “Ornge”?).

True story.

I sat in and observed the Peel Youth Violence Prevention Network’s “Education and Policy Working Group” meetings. (So many salaries seated around a table once a month). Yet our group made so little progress I decided to sit in on the Steering Committee meetings just to see what our Working Group’s Chair was actually reporting to The Steering Suits.

And oh my! Just as I suspected! She either fabricated or inflated our Group’s “successes”.

And that’s when I knew.

Youth workers, at least in Peel, are hired for their ability sling Positive Bullshit with evangelical zeal. And just like little municipal Deb Matthews, the Politicos accepted each verbal “update” as Truth.

Any doubters out there, I have most of these Peel Youth Violence Prevention Committee meetings on audio.

As I said I was part of the Peel Youth Violence Prevention Network’s “Education and Policy Working Group”. Then it folded.

Steering Committee Chair Gael Miles insisted however that our working group didn’t “fold” but rather “merged” with another group since we completed our mandate of educating and discussing policy!

That was the Fall of 2008.

Finished discussing policy?! Aside from part of one meeting to talk about the Safe Schools Act, that was it on Policy.

And get this.

It was only two weeks ago that I learned THE REGION OF PEEL HAS NO PUBLIC COMPLAINTS POLICY!

So why weren’t we, the Network’s “Education and Policy Working Group” informed of that back in 2007-08?

Deception. Lies. Persistent pretend. Fabricating success. And the funding money wasted! The hallmarks of at-risk youth programs.

And Peel can’t be the only one.

Which brings me to the greatest truth about youth violence prevention initiatives and our Governments of Pretend.

“…all I can say is of all the panels I sit on the first question that is asked is ‘Where are the young people? We are talking about them but they’re not with us.

Young people are very frustrated because there’s a lot of panels. Oh the reports that are written about “all the money we gotta spend!” and they’re very frustrated with the system right now. That’s why they don’t come to a lot of these things because the truth is because they don’t believe in what’s happening.”

—Pastor Andrew King, speaking on Youth Violence, Brampton, November 25, 2008

The Truth about Brampton and Mississauga Youth Anti-Violence Panels. Pastor Andrew King (Etobicoke) (0:47 min)

(Click here to go directly to the clip on YouTube)

“because the truth is because they don’t believe in what’s happening.”

And you can thank the Pat Saito politicians out there —because they’re the norm.

And “Super Mayor” Hazel McCallion and her  “We should concentrate on the 98 per cent that are good youth.”

Any wonder that the anthem for the 2% “bad youth” is “They don’t give a fuck about us”?

2pac – They Don’t Give A Fuck About Us . (5:37 min)

(Click here to go directly to the clip on YouTube)

“The truth is that we, as a society—all of us—simply don’t consider children very important. We talk a good game but we don’t think kids are as important as other things, like fixing the roads.”

—a quote by Jim Paul Nevins (Ontario Court Judge October 4, 2001 report)

ONTARIO MUNICIPALITIES: A MAJOR (unexplored) ROOT OF YOUTH VIOLENCE

Take it from someone who’s filed close to $4,000 worth of Freedom of Information. “The System is corrupt. There is no way to fix it”.

Signed,

MISSISSAUGAWATCH

MISSISSAUGA CITY HALL (AMO, OMERS, MYTHissauga Inc) ---morally beyond redemption

“…the system is CORRUPT and this is why there is youth violence this is why there are guns on the street and drugs in the hands of children the youth are fighting with the system because it is CORRUPT there is no way to fix it because the people higher up are sitting nice in their big leather chairs, driving their nice cars, living their perfect life when some people in this world have to work hard to get by and even by doing so they get nothing, and after they realize how hard they have to work to get by they break down and no longer want to live life being part of the system because they realize that living life by the rules of the system gets you no where because it is CORRUPT!”

You’re welcome.

I want to get a cheque here —give a cheque to the Governance Committee, a donation. And I just don’t know who to give it to.

Councillor Tovey is on it. He’s the Chair.

I understand why this place was locked. I had trouble getting in. And normally it’s very very open.

Subject: Donation to City of Mississauga

Hi Ursula, the donation cheque in the amount of $650 that you provided to Acting Mayor Tovey’s office last week has been forwarded to me.  I have deposited your donation in an appropriate City account and will be mailing a copy of your receipt to you.

I want to stress again to you, that this donation is not required.  All citizens of Mississauga have the right to request an investigation by the City’s Integrity Commissioner, and there is no charge for this.  As Mr. Rust-D’Eye confirmed to you in his email dated June 19, 2012 “The City does not charge complainants for the cost of the time of the Integrity Commissioner and an offer to do so would not be a relevant consideration in the performance by the Integrity Commissioner, (whoever it may be), of the responsibilities conferred on her or him, by the Municipal Act, City Council, an otherwise by law”.

Crystal Greer
Director of Legislative Services and City Clerk
City of Mississauga

Signed,
MISSISSAUGAWATCH
