“Trinket” or “art”? Mississauga’s $15,212.05 Mayor’s Gala Coat of Arms. Pssst! Wanna see it? I did!…

April 20th, 2011

[UPDATE April 29, 2011. Today we replaced the video “Trinket” or art? Mississauga’s $15,212.05 Mayor’s Gala Coat of Arms. Pssst! Wanna see it? I did!…” because of an error in the date –correct date was April 20, 2011 and not April 14th as in the original. Apologies. Now back to the blog.]

Well, I got to see Hazel McCallion’s $15,000 coat of arms “trinket” today.

HAZEL MCCALLION'S MAYOR'S $15,212.05 COAT OF ARMS. So. Whatcha think?

Saw it with my own eyeballs and videotaped it for yours. I have a theory… but will keep it to myself until the time’s right.

As is now our practice we provide this video of me accessing and documenting the Mayor’s coat of arms —followed by the transcript.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH (whispering inside Mississauga Council Chambers April 20, 2011)

I’m gonna talk a little bit quieter for this because I don’t want anyone to hear me.

It is Wednesday, April the 20th, 2011 and Mississauga Council right now is in-camera. And I’m going to whisper this because I don’t want the knobs to hear me.

We’ve hear a lot of talk about the $15,000 Mayor’s coat of arms and it looks something like this.

[CAMERA ZOOMS TO COUNCIL COAT OF ARMS]

It’s a replica of that one.

But nobody’s ever had a look at it.

After Mississauga Council comes back in here, I’m going to go to the Mayor/Councillor area and ask to see the Mayor’s coat of arms. I want to see what $15,000 has bought.

Knob…

And let’s see if it’s a “trinket” ‘cuz I got a pretty good grasp of art. We’ll see.

Here we go. So let’s see what happens.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH (standing outside the Office of the Mayor, City Manager and Councillors reception area, April 20, 2011)

I’m just gonna turn the camera off at this point. Yuh. I’m just gonna trust my audio recorder which is right here. Turning camera off.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH (Camera back on. Sitting inside the Office of the Mayor, City Manager and Councillors reception area, April 20, 2011.)

We’re here, this is Wednesday, April the 20th, 2011 and I’m here by the Mayor’s Office, right there.

I rarely go in here. I don’t feel comfortable but what I’m interested in, of course, is just to have a look at the Mayor’s coat of arms. So we’ll see how long this takes.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH (walking down hallway of the Office of the Mayor, City Manager and Councillors April 20, 2011)

Okay, coming here, I’m going to shoot straight down because I don’t —it’s a security issue if people see what’s inside here.

Well, I gotta say that was very fast. Easy access. And it isn’t what I expected. It really isn’t.

It’s SO BIG, you wouldn’t want it landing on your foot!

Anyway, that’s it. Turning camera off.
