OCCUPY TORONTO has its SAY. “Graffiti” chalk talk: “MORAL COMPASS MATTERS” (Are you listening City of Mississauga?)

October 16th, 2011

In yesterday’s blog, I said that I was going to OCCUPY TORONTO to document the protest and any protest-related graffiti. Reminder, that I use the dictionary definition of graffiti, “unauthorized writing or drawing on a public surface.”

Bottom-line, there wasn’t any at OCCUPY TORONTO. Plenty of people writing with chalk on sidewalks, mind you, but no graffiti.

Still. The demonstrators had plenty to say.

OCCUPY TORONTO has its SAY: “Graffiti” chalk talk (3:18 min)

MISSISSAUGAWATCH, reading the chalk-talk “graffiti” at OCCUPY TORONTO, St. James Park, October 15, 2011

“Kindness. We all have enough”

“resilience”

“I REFUSE TO JOIN THE CULT OF EFFICIENCY”

And these, let’s take a look.

“EXPRESS YOUR HUMANITY”

“MORAL COMPASS MATTERS”. Are you listening City of Mississauga?

“CARE FOR EACH OTHER”

“FIGHTING FOR CHANGE WILL MAKE YOU RICHER”

“? FEEL FREE TO QUESTION”

“EXPRESS YOUR HUMANITY”

“MORAL COMPASS MATTERS”

“CARE FOR EACH OTHER”

“LOVE IS RADICAL”

It’s getting darker but I thought I’d read some of this.

“Didn’t your teacher tell ya? It’s nice to SHARE”

“TO THE 1%: STOP GAMBLING WITH OUR LIVES”

“I am NOT a commodity”

“PEOPLE NOT THINGS”

“Love is enough!”

“THE 99% is RISING”

“END THE RICH
END THE WAR

“Jane/Finch = POVERTY EXPERIMENT”

“PEACE”

“Anyone who has had
to dig in their couch cushions
for loose change
knows there’s more
to capitalism than
sweatshops & ponzi
schemes  —99%”

And then there’s the actual protest signs….

There are people eating dirt in Somalia. These hippies need a thump on the head.

I’ve read first hand the chalk graffiti, its not peaceful and it’s not just on side walks.

No one ever said that the chalk graffiti was just limited to sidewalks.

Me writing, “Plenty of people writing with chalk on sidewalks, mind you, but no graffiti” meant simply that. And not “Plenty of people limiting themselves to writing with chalk on sidewalks”.

As for your assessment that some of the chalk graffiti was not “peaceful”, examples please.

Frankly I’m still astounded that these protesters have limited themselves to chalk graffiti. Or in the case of Saturday’s City Hall protest, water-based paint.

    To that other Anonymous.

You wrote, “There are people eating dirt in Somalia. These hippies need a thump on the head.”

Your point? That those protesting for social justice wait until conditions get much worse before they have anything to complain about?

    You forget. This is CANADA.

Corporations that make Billions and can’t give back a little? or even better to mass layoffs for the bottom line. Give me a break. World hunger even in Canada shouldn’t exist, with big Companies, making so much. Regulations are needed, to even out the playing field with money, wealth….ect
