MISSISSAUGAWATCH to share Freedom of Information documents with Harold Shipp (and other “Friends of Hazel”) plus Jully Black’s “Running” lyrics

Just writing this for the record.  Filing Freedom of Information on the City of Mississauga (as well as Ajax, Brampton, Kingston, Vaughan etc) since January 19, 2007 has now cost well over $3,000.

Yesterday I went to KINKOS to begin the arduous task of photocopying every last City of Mississauga and City of Brampton document. Cost me $116.00 and I’m not even through 2007, with the most yet to come. As you might expect, the vast majority are City of Mississauga records pertaining to treatment of citizens (youth/minors) as well as records of— let’s call it the evolution/violations of certain Corporate policies/procedures as well as provincial guidelines and legislation.

Once finished, the entire collection of Freedom of Information records (in electronic format) will be first be handed over to “Friends of Hazel” Harold Shipp, Ted Woloshyn, Don Cherry  —and Betty Merkley.

This is my way of explaining why these Blogs will be getting more and more sparse for the next while.  I’ve got hundreds of documents to photocopy, then scan, and then optically-scan into text while still collecting data (Mississauga Council meetings, Peel Police Services Board meetings, Peel Youth Violence Prevention Steering Committee meetings etc etc).

Next. Heard one remarkable song on the radio this morning. Went to YouTube and found it.  Thing about this song is, it contains the same message that this street youth gave me back at the February 2008 Our Future Mississauga Community Engagement Visioning Charette.  I’d asked him if there was one message he’d like to give Mississauga/Peel Council, what would it be.

This was that young man urged…

“You gotta come out of your comfort zone, come from your office, come from your desks, put down your job titles… Come off that way of thinking and actually come into the streets and talk to the people that you claim to represent.”

He told me it wasn’t even an option anymore. The song on the radio?… sent that same message

That’s it for today. Got to head out to KINKOS.
