Mississauga Finestkind Friend of the Library, Jim Wilde (Chair of the Mississauga Library Board) an aloha

January 27th, 2010

Mississauga has lost another of its Finestkind. From the City of Mississauga website:

In Memoriam

JIM WILDE (1930-2010)

It is with deep regret that the Library Leadership Team announces the passing of Jim Wilde, Chair of the Mississauga Public Library Board. Jim had served on the Library Board since 2004 and as Chair since 2008. As a trustee on the Library Board, his special interests were the promotion of Mississauga’s history and heritage, and services for students.

Jim’s association with the Mississauga Library System reached beyond his trusteeship on the Library Board. In 1988, he became a founding member of the Friends of the Library group and worked hard on getting the new Mississauga Central Library opened in 1991. He served as an executive member and a chairman of that group for over 22 years. In recognition of his dedicated service, the Library established its annual Jim Wilde Young Volunteer Award several years ago.

Jim was one of the originators of the local schools “Kiss and Ride” program and continued his active involvement in the Mississauga Traffic Safety Council as a life member. Jim was a great reader and learner who also enjoyed travel. He and his wife Mary enjoyed life in Mississauga and their growing family.

Jim’s passion and dedication for the community is irreplaceable. He was committed to making Mississauga – and the Library – a better place. And because of Jim Wilde, it is.
