On losing our finestkind Ontario Ombudsman and his finestkind SORT Team
February 24th, 2010
Today I got shrekked at the Toronto Star —this article “‘Fishy’ watchdog review slammed by opposition Dalton McGuinty government not renewing contracts of troublesome critics”
This part:
Queen’s Park Bureau
The Liberal government is poised to defang two of its toughest watchdogs – Ombudsman André Marin and Environmental Commissioner Gord Miller – by not offering to renew their contracts, the Star has learned.
So I filed a report inside Mississauga Council. And this “No-Way-I’m-voting-Liberal-again-liberal” is proud to say that I didn’t use the tempting spit-venom “McGuinty SUCKS!” even once!
So. As always, the video —followed by the transcript.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH (in-camera vigil inside Mississauga Council Chambers February 24, 2010) :
It is Wednesday, February 24, 2010 here at Mississauga Council and I want to start out by saying it’s a sad day for Ontarians today.
The Toronto Star reported that Dalton McGuinty is not going to be renewing our Ontario Ombudsman, Andre Marin’s contract, I guess, in March 2010.
I found out about it actually on Twitter —Ontario Ombudsman is on Twitter and he kind of made the announcement himself that way.
And basically the belief is that Mr. Marin was far too effective in his role as Ontario’s Watchdog.
And I keep saying about the Fakery that exists in Government.
And I guess in this case, you having a real Ombudsman, a real watchdog, committed to citizens, committed to reporting the Truth, committed to what an ombudsman truly is —which is a conscience of government, the McGuinty Liberals felt that it was not something in their interests.
Because it’s not in the interests of government for there to really be oversight.
So we can expect that afterwards, to replace our Ontario Watchdog with a lapdog, lame —pooch, who Dalton McGuinty will be far more comfortable with.

You had an effective citizen-advocate at the Provincial level in Ombudsman Andre Marin and—

sometime in March, we will be losing Andre Marin and his remarkable SORT Team.
The “Sharpening the [sic] Teeth” course —there were only three of them, the number of people who were participating in that —the ombudsmens [sic] from —jeez, there were some like, from all over the world who attended that course!
And the message that Ontario has sent out today!
[dip to white]
To be clear, what the McGuinty government is saying, not just to Ontarians, but to ombudsmen pretty well throughout the entire country is “Don’t do your job too well, because if you do, you won’t have a job.”
So, to Dalton McGuinty, I’m a liberal. There’s no way I’m voting Liberal anymore. My only choice is Conservative but they’re worse!
And you know, there’s nobody to vote for anymore.
And it’s funny because I’ve gotten emails from City of Vaughan —there are Vaughan residents who are betting with me in email that their municipality is worse than mine!
And yesterday I got email from somebody in Brampton saying, I’ve just started reading your blogs and you know what? It’s like that in Brampton too! What are we going to do about it?
[dip to white]
It was back in 2006 when Bill 130 “Amendments to the Municipal Act” was passed by the McGuinty Liberals. And Dalton McGuinty heralded it as a new age of Accountability.
That particular bill for one thing, extended voting from three years at the municipal level to four —which means these elected officials are less accountable, not more.
And now you get McGuinty saying to Andre Marin, we don’t want you for the next five years.
Andre Marin and his SORT Team was about Accountability.
And it makes it the most vile thing that the McGuinty Liberals have ever done. And what will be interesting over the next little while is, is there going to be opposition from the Conservatives?
[dip to white]
And I’m also interested in the response that the Traditional Media is going to have because I’m on record as saying that the Traditional Media are complicit in the loss of democracy —this SHAM democracy that we have.
