A Peel Regional Police officer is in hospital fighting for his life after a late-night crash in Brampton on Monday.

The officer’s cruiser collided with a second vehicle on Airport Road at Steeles Avenue just after 11 p.m. The impact of the crash sent the police cruiser careening into a light pole.

The officer was transported to Sunnybrook hospital where he is battling life-threatening injuries. The civilian involved in the crash was not seriously injured.

Peel officer clinging to life

A Peel Regional Police officer is fighting for his life in hospital after a two-car collision Monday night (March 1) in Brampton.

Police are releasing few details about the crash, which occurred just after 11 p.m. on Steeles Ave. at Airport Rd.

The officer, whose name and age haven’t been released, has been with Peel police for two years. He works out of 21 Division in Brampton, which also serves Malton.
Police say the officer was on regular patrol in a marked cruiser, but not responding to a call, when the crash occurred. The impact  sent the cruiser crashing into a light pole.

The officer was taken to a Brampton hospital with severe head injuries, and later transported to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, where he remains in critical condition.

Brampton – Peel Regional Police will be hosting a press conference to update the media, regarding the passing of an officer who was critically injured in a collision.

On Monday, March 1, 2010, at approximately 11:00 p.m., a marked Peel Regional Police cruiser was involved in a collision with another vehicle in the intersection of Airport Road and Steeles Avenue East. Chief Mike Metcalf will be addressing the media on the loss of this officer.
