MISSISSAUGAWATCH
MississaugaWatch Mississauga Watch Dear Madam Mayor:
The McCallion Letters

Hazel McCallion secures her Legacy adding Bonnie Crombie to MYTHissauga’s stable of puppet-councillors.

September 19th, 2011

With Bonnie Crombie now added to Hazel McCallion’s existing stable of six puppet-councillors, Mississauga Council now has unfettered license to fabricate, deceive and lie to the public. All in the best interests of the City, of course.

With Crombie there are now Seven: Tovey, Mullin, Fonseca, Crombie, Starr, Mahoney and Saito.

Cronyism (so rife and so Out There in MYTHissauga) is having one joyous field day.

I’m reminded of Hazel McCallion’s September 8, 2010 speech when she announced she’d run for a 12th term.

This part:

“And I’m not going to conduct a campaign. I am not going to raise money. I’m not going to have signs— because I’ll tell you anyone that wants to donate money to a Mayor’s campaign, I plead with you, to donate it to all the charitable organizations, whose under pressure second-to-none. The Food Bank. The Children’s Aid— the Salvation Army and all those that are struggling, struggling today to look after the people. The Poverty that’s in our city. The Unemployed that are in our city.

So how can I, as Mayor, waste money on signs and literature?”

A year later you find she’s got the Mississauga Board of Trade and the Mississauga Chinese Business Association campaigning for her and she’s not just backed by millions and millions but she has her own ROGERS Cable 10 TV station as well!

Funny how the Mississauga News never mentioned that… or any other media for that matter.

The Mississauga News had to know the millions and millions of dollars greasing McCallion’s campaign machinery. Ron Lenyk sure did. Mississauga Board of Trade. Mississauga Chinese Business Association. Shipp, Kaneff, Nobrega, O’Brien, Starr, Murray… MYTHissauga Inc’s Secret Society.

Just a few of a seemingly endless parade of self-serving MYTHissaugans.Mayor’s Gala 2010 Organizing Committee

Just 241 votes separated Parrish from Crombie. To gauge how HUGE Eve and Peter Adams played in Crombie’s win check out his 1,347 votes… Parrish sure could have used them.

And let’s not forget to factor in McCallion’s Brazil “trade mission” engineered to delay the release of the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry report until after the Ward 5 by-election.

Seriously. With Hazel McCallion’s solid wall of puppet councillors, does anyone remotely believe the Inquiry report even matters? There will be nothing in the Inquiry report’s contents that a couple of hastily drafted and pro-forma’d Corporate By-Laws can’t cure! And McCallion can count on her Seven Rubber Stamps to rubber-stamp them.

Orwell again: ‘Who controls the past,’ ran the Party slogan, ‘controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.’

F*** me. The Inquiry Commission Counsel even let McCallion control the report!

“This is the way the world ends: This is the way the world ends: This is the way the world ends: Not with a bang but a whimper.

Get ready for a perpetually-smiling Barbie Doll former public relations hack sitting in the Ward 5 chair.

Hmmm. This just in.

Quote from Hazel McCallion:

“I hope the one that finished close to her will forget any attempts to be on the council of the great City of Mississauga.”

And I hope that public servants who lie to “maintain” the public trust spend Eternity straddling the fifth-lowest rung in Hell.

MISSISSAUGA CITY HALL (AMO, OMERS, MYTHissauga Inc) ---morally beyond redemption

Photos of Hazel McCallion’s Inner Circle reveal the Politrix of MYTHissauga. Plus the Ward 5 By-election.

September 18th, 2011

I’ve been researching City of Mississauga municipal governance since May 2006. Since then I’ve been documenting, documenting, documenting.

For the record. I’ve received The Signal that researching is over. It’s time to report.

And talk about The Signal coming from the most unexpected of places! A remarkable set of 64 photos called “Andrew” takes the viewer behind-the-scenes to Hazel McCallion’s Victory Party the night of October 25, 2011.

Andrew’s images reveal Hazel’s People. And as Hazel’s People thinned out, Andrew’s photos then documented Hazel McCallion’s Inner Circle.

These two photos were my AHAH! Moment. The Signal that my Research is over. It’s time to Report.

Victor Oh, honourary president of the Mississauga Chinese Business Association pops the first bottle of champagne.

To the Mississauga Chinese Business Association glitterati front and centre at Hazel’s Victory party you can also add Sheldon Leiba, and Dr. Colin Saldanha, president and past president respectively of the Mississauga Board of Trade. Then add McCallion’s ROGERS Cable 10 TV.

And Eureka! We now finally know why Hazel McCallion says she doesn’t need to campaign. Or raise money.

That said, Andrew’s 64 “Hazel Victory Night” photos help explain one of my fundamental questions: Why the Region of Peel blew off warning-after-warning-after-warning about City of Mississauga Corporate Security and their treatment of youth and minors. Why the Peel Youth Violence Prevention Network and the Mississauga Youth Plan were such shams.

And Andrew’s 173 Sep 10, 2009 The Eighth Community Policing Dinner photos help explain how a judge can find three Peel Regional Police officers fabricating evidence and lying in court —and Peel Police Services “has no plans to investigate or discipline the rogue officers”.

I can’t thank Andrew enough for posting these historic Mississauga Heritage images! A veritable Who’s Who of MYTHissauga: The Mayor’s People.

Tomorrow the Mayor’s People will be backing their two puppet-candidates: Bonnie Crombie and Jake Dheer. Expect Victor Oh to hoist more bubbly should either of his two win.

His two are the Mayor’s two are MYTHissauga Inc’s two. Except, I think the Mayor, Ron Starr and Victor Oh would prefer that Jake Dheer get in.

How do I know?

From video I shot at yesterday’s Community Crime Awareness Day!

Related topic —Politics. It’s not about the Best in our community offering themselves to serve the rest of us. And it’s not about the Best in our community debating issues and doing their best so that we can be informed voters.

It’s about the Wealthy choosing their People to run and when elected, serve their interests.

And Politics is about fabricating, deceiving and even lying. It’s about saying indescribably ghastly things about opposition candidates without having a shred of evidence. It’s even about stealing your opponents’ signs. Placing your sign directly in front of a front-runner opponent’s sign.

Or simply kicking signs down.

Mississauga Ward 5 candidates Jake Dheer Carolyn Parrish signs knocked down.

Above all, Politics is about $$$Money$$$. (The 2006 and 2010 financial statements of Mississauga’s successful candidates tell all.)

I delivered flyers today. About four-and-a-half hours complete with one German Shepherd and a vigilant Doberman Pincer. I have even more respect for letter-carriers than I did before this romp.

I believe in the public’s right to know. I believe it was wrong to allow Hazel McCallion to maneuver a trip to Brazil and successfully withhold the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry report until after Ward 5 residents have cast their ballots.

I believe voters should get all the information they are due so they can make informed choices.

So imagine my disgust seeing candidates’ flyers languishing on balconies, steps, grass, sidewalks and gutters while just one candidate’s flyer prevailed in the mailbox!

Now I didn’t actually keep accurate count, but it certainly appeared that Adams flyers fell greatest victims to “displacement”. I was shocked to find the west side of one street having Adams flyers actually ripped up and strewn on lawns. One torn Adams flyer even peaked out from a mailbox!

I didn’t even know there was a Waqar Siddiqui until I saw his flyers strewn about.

For the record it took me four-and-a-half hours because first, I’m built for comfort not speed. Second, I rescued stray flyers. I even picked up a couple of Bonnie Crombie flyers and one Jake Dheer flyer gone “astray” and put them back into mailboxes along with the one I was delivering.

Citizens need Information to be good citizens, right?

Right?

Signed,

Mississauga Ward 5 By-Election Shadow Play –and Why the Mississauga Judicial Report won’t matter

September 9th, 2011

It isn’t often that one cartoon can serve both as a prediction of MYTHissauga’s “Team Hazel” Ward 5 by-election strategy and carry the alternate title, “Why the Judicial Report won’t matter”

Mississauga Ward 5 Election Shadow Play. Alternate Title? "Why the Judicial Inquiry Report means Diddleyfrikkin'Squat."

Yes. That’s it for today.

UPDATE Saturday September 10, 2011

Prediction of MYTHissauga’s “Team Hazel” Ward 5 by-election strategy

Last week when headlines announced the discovery of “two fossil skeletons of early humans appear to mark a halfway stage between primitive ‘ape-men’ and our direct ancestors”, I too discovered a missing MYTHissauga link.

It came in the form of a remarkable series of 64 photographs by “Andrew” called “Hazel’s Victory Night”.

The Mayor. Supporters chant Hazel McCallion’s name during her victory
speech on Monday night at Vic Johnston Community Centre in Streetsville.
Staff photo by Fred Loek

We can match the Mayor’s Gala “memory lane” as well as Starr’s on the Credit and both Mayor’s 90th Birthday Bashes, no surprise, some of the Mayor’s handler’s and hangers-on turn up time and time again. I refer to them as MYTHissauga Inc.

It was however, Andrew’s “Hazel Victory Night” photographs that provided the missing link in MYTHissauga Inc.

I think readers will agree that at such events, who sits at what table with who, and who gets photographed with who, telegraphs tons about the importance of a particular individual within a social hierarchy. For example in Photo 6, featuring a circle of people, it’s clear there’s an outside circle, and an inner circle with the Mayor as the most important person. Even someone who did not know who Hazel McCallion is can infer quite a lot about the social status of the people in this pic.

What follows is a summary of Andrew’s “Hazel Victory Night” pics that will serve as an introduction to the people who will be (and have been) pulling the strings behind-the-scenes in this Ward 5 by-election.

Photo 1: Victor Oh (honourary president of the Mississauga Chinese Association)) standing beside the Mayor, pops open the first bottle of champagne.

Of the Mayor’s several dozen campaign-team members, the herd is cut considerably when it’s time for champagne. I think who gets to pop the champagne is a signal of sorts, don’t you? As is who gets first, second, third pour. Don’t you?

Photo 10: Hazel McCallion, right hand on Victor Oh’s shoulder delights in the *pop* of the champagne.

Photo 13: Victor Oh pours champagne at a table featuring Peter McCallion and his girlfriend, Jovanna.

The significance of this photo is that it reveals which of the several dozen MYTHissauga Inc faithful initially at this Vic Johnson Arena Victory party are rewarded with quaffs of champagne.

Photo 14: reveals Fran Rider, big in women’s hockey, champagne in hand, smiling beside Victor Oh who’s still pouring champagne.

When you know that Rider was also at the “Friends of Hazel” Rally and none other than Don Cherry spoke on behalf of “Hazey” at that Rally, how many votes can Hockey and the Mississauga Sports Council pull in for McCallion each election?

Photo 20: Do Real Estate Agents play Big in the Mayor’s campaign team? Royal LePage real estate agent, Diane Kalenchuk ( 2002 citizen-of-the-year) congratulated by Victor Oh.

Royal LePage’s Diane Kalenchuk helped organize the December 2, 2009 “Friends of Hazel” Rally and RE/MAX Realty’s Betty Merkley was acknowledged as the Rally organizer. Merkley spoke out against the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry both in front of Council on October 28, 2009 and at the December Rally, heading the speeches .

Actually if you add Peter McCallion to this mix, that’s another real estate agent that looks big around the Mayor.

Photo 29: Power Circle of 4. Hazel McCallion speaks to Colin F. Saldanha. Past Chair Mississauga Board of Trade  as Victor Oh, Katie Mahoney and husband, omnipresent Steve Mahoney smile on.

Photo 33: Bonnie Crombie smiles with Ron Starr, Hazel McCallion and Katie Mahoney.

When you’ve seen Crombie singing “Hot Child” in Rick Mercer’s “Welcome to Mississauga”, do the twist in the Starrs on the Credit 2008 video highlights, and beam beside the Mayor at both 90th Birthday Bashes, it’s tough to find an event where Barbie Doll Bonnie isn’t attached to the Mayor like a limpet.

Photo 34: Ron Starr, Hazel McCallion and Katie Mahoney’s faces split into wide grins, Bonnie Crombie takes her cue from them.

See cartoon above for more details.

Photo 36: The Mayor’s “media”, Toronto Sun columnist Ted Woloshyn is happy and appears in several photographs. Read his views on the Inquiry and Mississauga and you’ll appreciate the truth behind Katie Mahoney’s “It’s not hard to support our Mayor, trust me”.

Lapdog *woof* *woof* Toronto Sun columnist Ted Woloshyn at 2003 Mayor's Gala. For "context" when reading Ted Woloshyn's columns on Hazel McCallion, this lapdog pic will put things in perspective!
Along with Ted Woloshyn, you can add CFRB’s John Tory to The Mayor’s “media”. She can rely on both to “tell it like it is”. To get some idea of their importance in MYTHissauga Inc, both Woloshyn and Tory Emceed the Mayor’s 90th $350.00-a-ticket birthday bash.

To the print and radio, you can add the Mayor’s official TV Station, Rogers Cable 10 complete with her own TV station manager, Jake Dheer. Jake Dheer’s “She’s your Mayor, my Mayor, our Mayor” rah-rahs has seen him rewarded with citizen-of-the-year and now with MYTHissauga Inc’s endorsement as “Team Hazel”s second candidate in this Ward 5 by-election.

Photo 45: Bonnie Crombie smiles with Sheldon Leiba, President of the Mississauga Board of Trade (MBOT)

Have to laugh at the memory back in September 2010 of McCallion announcing to huge media fanfare that she’d be running for a 12th term. And how as always she won’t be campaigning. And that any money that people had intended to contribute be donated to charity instead.

Here what McCallion said on September 8, 2010 to what was for the most part, a lapdog media:

“And I’m not going to conduct a campaign. I am not going to raise money. I’m not going to have signs because I’ll tell you —anyone that wants to donate money to a Mayor’s campaign, I plead with you, to donate it to all the charitable organizations, whose under pressure second-to-none. The Food Bank. The Children’s Aid, the Salvation Army and all those that are struggling, struggling today to look after the people. The Poverty that’s in our city. The Unemployed that are in our city.

So how can I, as Mayor, waste money on signs and literature?”

Andrew’s 64 Hazel Victory Night confirm why the Mayor doesn’t have to campaign. Or raise campaign funds. She’s got Harold Shipp (Shipp Corporation). Victor Oh (Mississauga Chinese Business Association). Sheldon Leiba (Mississauga Board of Trade), Ted Woloshyn, John Tory, Jake Dheer (Rogers Cable 10 Mississauga) and just about every real estate agent you can shake a stick at.

Imagine the money.

And we haven’t even mentioned Michael Nobrega (OMERS Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System).

Imagine the votes.

Add Hockey.

Photo 49: Out comes a second bottle of champagne. Again, held by Victor Oh as he introduces the Mayor to Stephen Chu, President of the Mississauga Chinese Business Association.

Photo 51: Victor Oh and Stephen Chu beam as Ron Starr pops the cork on champagne bottle #2. Given her expression I suspect the Mayor is wary of corks!

Photo 58: Bonnie Crombie speaks with two men from the December 2, 2009 “Friends of Hazel” Rally. The white-haired guy, an organizer, the other comes complete with fascinating observation.

Bonnie Crombie’s son Jonathan also helped with the Friends of Hazel Rally. Turns out retrospective analysis of videotape suggests he helped organize the keynote speakers that evening.

Photo 62: Victor Oh, Stephen Chu (Mississauga Chinese Business Association) smile with the victorious Mayor.

Photo 63: Victor Oh, Stephen Chu (Mississauga Chinese Business Association) smile with their new victorious Ward 6 Councillor, Ron Starr.

Note. while Victor Oh, honourary president of the Mississauga Chinese Business Association, didn’t speak against the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry at the December 2, 2009 “Friends of Hazel” Rally, Audrey Chiang, Chair of the Mississauga Board of Chinese Professionals and Businesses did. And what a stirring speech!

I guess having both Harold Shipp and Victor Oh speak out against the Judicial Inquiry would have been a tad over the top….

Anyway, feel free to wander through Andrew’s superb photo gallery of other Mississauga political events. Andrew’s photos answer a lot of questions. Especially when it comes to Police —and Safe City MYTHissauga….

So. The significance of Andrew’s “Hazel Victory Photos”?

The pics:

Last.

Explains why I stated that the Mississauga Judicial Report won’t matter. I’ll go further. These photos explain why spending $100,000 a year on an integrity commissioner for the City of MYTHissauga is a complete waste of taxpayers’ money.

Hmmm. I see an omission in my cartoon. Oopsie! I forgot all the real estate agents!

So you think you know the Mississauga political scene? Name all the citizens-of-the-year in this cartoon. Hint. There are 4.

McCallion 2010 Election Night Victory photos reveal Hazel’s behind-the-scenes “Complexities” in Ward 5 by-election

September 3rd, 2011

In the July 22, 2011 National Post article, “Council watchers claim guardianship of democracy, political scientist says” Megan O’Toole writes about what she describes as “self-styled council watchers” and their “growing presence in recent years as the proliferation of social media has given them a widening platform to share their views”.

O’Toole gets no fewer than three political scientists to weigh in on “council watchers.” All three PhD’s were condescending —and yes, dismissive.

While Ryerson University’s Duncan MacLellan’s opinion wasn’t the worst of the bunch, his is the most relevant for today’s blog.

Regarding council watchers MacLellan had this to say to the National Post:

“There could be some knowledge that they have that is helpful, but sometimes it is more just reactionary,” says Ryerson University municipal politics expert Duncan MacLellan. “They get people sort of fired up, but in the end [may not] understand the complexities around the decisions that get made.”

Notice O’Toole’s use of ” [may not] “. This would suggest the possibility that Dr. MacLellan really wrote “don’t” as in “but in the end don’t understand the complexities around the decisions that get made.”

What with the Mayor successfully blocking the release of the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry report until after the Ward 5 by-election, it’s time to introduce one of MYTHissauga’s “complexities around the decisions that get made.”

Today’s blog is unique.  I discovered a series of 64 remarkable photos by photographer “Andrew”.  His Picasa web album is simply labelled “Hazel Victory Night Oct 25, 2010 photos: 64“.

Andrew clearly has unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to Victor Oh, Honourary President of the Mississauga Chinese Business Association. And through Victor Oh, Andrew had unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to Mayor Hazel McCallion’s private October 25, 2010 Election Night Victory Celebration.

Judging by the grins splitting the faces of McCallion’s “complexities” as they popped the champagne, they weren’t so much celebrating Ron Starr’s victory as silencing Carolyn Parrish. After all, can’t have the public know what’s really going on in MYTHissauga —and especially its “complexities”.

Through experience I’ve discovered that videos and photographs “disappear” once MYTHissauga’s “complexities” find out that I’ve discovered them. So I document them through videotape six ways to Sunday.

Watch and discover (if you don’t already know) a major “complexity” —that informed voters are very, very bad for government. And business.

So make no mistake. The same MYTHissauga Elites swilling champagne in these “Andrew” photos: Hazel McCallion, son Peter, Ron Starr, Starr’s “friends for 30 years” Katie and Steve Mahoney, Bonnie Crombie, Victor Oh et al are busy right now pulling their Strings of “Complexities” in this Ward 5 by-election.

And with that introduction, here is my video “colour commentary” of Andrew’s 64 photos. And of course, the video transcript.

If anyone notices an error either in the YouTube video or in this transcript I respectfully request that I be advised. I have been documenting City of Mississauga municipal governance since May 2006 and this research demands Accuracy. Thanks.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH August 30, 2011 analyzing Andrew’s  ‘Hazel Victory Night Oct 25, 2010″ 64 photos.

It is Tuesday, August 30, 2011 and this is what the Toronto Star looks like. I’ve discovered something that’s really important and I need to document it before it’s removed.

These are photos by a guy named “Andrew” right here, who seems to have an in somehow with the Mayor. A whole bunch of different activities.

The one that I’m interested in —there it is right there. And it’s “Hazel Victory Night Oct 25, 2010”.

[Photo 1: Ron Starr, Hazel McCallion and Katie Mahoney victorious]

And there’s a whole bunch of them and you can kind of see. I’m going to go a little bit further. But what I’m going to do now is, This is Photo 1 as you can see up here.

And I’m just going to do this as a slide presentation.

And what I’ll do is I’ll identify some of the people here. As you can see, if there’s ever any doubt that Katie Mahoney is Hazel’s favoured #1 Councillor. The Mahoney’s have an incredible influence as far as The Councillors are concerned.

And anyway, so here we’ve got Ron Starr, Hazel McCallion and Katie Mahoney. And we’re just going to go through here.

This is “Victory Night” behind-the-scenes. Nobody’s seen this. Neither have I.

[Photo 2: Smiling guy with microphone at podium. Hazel McCallion beside him.]

Not sure who this is.

[Photo 3: Hazel McCallion, microphone in hand, addresses her Faithful.]

Here she is addressing her Faithful.

[Photo 4: The Mayor’s Faithful in rapt attention.]

More of her Faithful.

[Photo 6: Hazel McCallion surrounded by her Faithful.]

This guy here? Prevented the Mississauga News from asking McCallion questions inside the Great Hall. On Election Night.

[Photo 9: Victor Oh, with Mayor beside him, prepares to pop a bottle of champagne.]

Victor Oh, Honourary President of the Mississauga Chinese Business Association. And here he’s popping open a bottle of champagne. And I’m not sure but I think that that’s actually a mayoral candidate as well [note: will verify].

[Photo 10: Victor Oh successfully pops cork to delight of delighted Faithful.]

But what’s important to me right now is to get these documented.

[Photo 11: Delighted Faithful cheer and applaud Victor Oh’s successful champagne popping.]

[Photo 12: Hazel McCallion hoists champagne glass and toasts her Faithful.]

[Photo 13: Victor Oh pours champagne to the assembled Faithful.]

Peter McCallion and girlfriend Jovanna.

[Photo 14: Victor Oh pours more champagne for the assembled Faithful as the Mayor talks to a Faithful.]

[Photo 15: Hazel McCallion receives huge hug from a smiling Faithful as Victor Oh beams.]

There’s Fran Rider, President, or head of the Women’s Hockey Association.

[Photo 16: Hazel McCallion poses with four of her Faithful.]

[Photo 17. Hazel McCallion with Unidentified Faithful. Longo’s corporate banner in background.]

If you ever wonder why Hazel McCallion doesn’t have to campaign, this is why.

Notice in the background here, you’ve got Jovanna and Peter McCallion here checking —let’s just go back. Let’s just do that. Checking Peter’s cell phone there or something. Going back.

Notice the corporate sponsorship “Longo’s”?

[Photo 19: Smiling Unidentified male Faithful with Hazel McCallion and same Unidentified Faithful.]

Not sure who that is.

He shows up later so I’m going to be interested in these two people.

[Photo 20: Victor Oh, Diane Kalenchuk and same Unidentified Faithful.]

Victor Oh and this here, Diane Kalenchuk, Royal LePage real estate agent. “Selling Homes in Mississauga for Over 25 Years!” and also awarded citizen-of-the-year 2002.

Accompanied Hazel McCallion several times to the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry back in September 2010. And also at the Living Arts Centre, February 13, 2011, she was there hovering around celebrating and organizing Hazel McCallion’s 90th birthday.

[Photo 21: Fran Rider, Victor Oh, Diane Kalenchuk pose happily with two Unidentified Faithfuls.]

Fran Rider, Women’s hockey. Victor Oh, accompanying Hazel McCallion on many of the trips to China. And Diane Kalenchuk —this woman driving, in the car with Hazel, and for that matter, Fran Rider, to the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry.

And those two draw a complete blank to me. Who are they?

[Photo 22: Hazel McCallion in a circle with MYTHissauga Faithfuls.]

I thought this guy here’s Ted Woloshyn. But you know, when he’s got his back like that, don’t really know.

[Photo 23 Hazel McCallion receives hug from a Faithful as what appears to be Ted Woloshyn looks on.]

Looks kind of like Ted Woloshyn. Now he’s the Toronto Sun columnist and I refer to him as Hazel’s lapdog. But we’re still not sure.

[Photo 24: Hazel McCallion posing with three Unidentified male Faithfuls.]

Not sure who these people are.

[Photo 25: Hazel McCallion at table with her Faithful. Guy who blocked Mississauga News in background.]

Here we have them celebrating at the end. Again, this guy here.

[Photo 26: Hazel McCallion at table with her Faithful. Different angle.]

There’s this guy who looks like Ted Woloshyn in the background. Still not sure.

[Photo 27: Sheldon Leiba smiling with Unidentified smiling Unidentified Faithful and smiling “Starr’s on the Credit” party girl.]

Here’s something that’s really interesting.  This is a guy named Sheldon Leiba, president of the Mississauga Board of Trade. As I keep saying. You don’t have to campaign when you’ve got the Mississauga Board of Trade right behind you.

And this woman right here. She is in a lot of the photographs of Starr’s on the Credit. And I can show that she’s quite the Party Girl.

[Photo 28: Hazel McCallion posing with beaming Katie Mahoney and omnipresent hubbie, Steve Mahoney.]

Keep going.

Like I said, these are the powerhouses beside Hazel. Hazel can depend on these two. December 2, 2009 Rally you had Katie Mahoney going up there saying—”It’s not hard to support our Mayor, trust me.”

[Video insert of Katie Mahoney, December 2, 2009 “Friends of Hazel” Rally]

Katie Mahoney: “It’s not hard to support our Mayor, trust me.”

[End insert]

It is so true when you’ve got the Mississauga Board of Trade. You’ve got Ted Woloshyn. You’ve got Ron Lenyk, who’s the former publisher of the Mississauga News and was publisher for the longest time.

There’s been no media.

And then Jake Dheer who’s Rogers Cable 10. All these “media”, they were all supporting the Mayor.

Anyway, as I keep saying, two powerful, powerful people and McCallion-backers.

[Photo 29: Hazel McCallion in a talking circle with Katie Mahoney, omnipresent hubbie, Steve Mahoney and Victor Oh.]

Same thing here. Now isn’t this quite the photograph!

You’ve got Steve Mahoney, Councillor Katie Mahoney, Victor Oh and Hazel McCallion. In the background, Fran Rider, Women’s hockey.

Now there’s a real power photograph.

[Photo 31: Hazel McCallion and Ron Starr in victory embrace.]

Now isn’t that a photograph. Ron Starr hugging Hazel McCallion.

Boy was she happy to get rid of Carolyn Parrish. Because Carolyn Parrish at least for a little while, blew the lid off MYTHissauga

[Photo 32: Hazel McCallion and Ron Starr still hugging.]

And here. Can there be a happier Hazel?

“I got my man in! I got my puppet in!” What a relief it must be for her.

And I suspect now they’re really going to watch the Ward 5 election because the last thing that woman needs is to have Carolyn Parrish back.

After all, Horrors, you wouldn’t want people to know what’s really going on in MYTHissauga.

[Photo 33: Bonnie Crombie, Ron Starr, Hazel McCallion and Katie Mahoney —grins splitting their faces.]

And look at this. Isn’t this the photograph!

If there’s any doubt that Bonnie Crombie is a Hazel puppet —a Hazel uber alles candidate. This is a photograph by Andrew. October 25th—

[Photo 34: Bonnie Crombie, Ron Starr, Hazel McCallion and Katie Mahoney faces splitting in even wider grins.]

2010. Behind-the-scenes look. Look at the delight.

“Yes.! We got rid of Parrish! Yes! We got Ron Starr in! Yes. We can return to our Secrecy!”

Oh! I know! Here’s something else I can tell you. All four of these people were at Starr’s on the Credit and were featured in the Starr’s on the Credit 2008 highlight video.

Including [laughs] Ronnie Hawkins saying something like—

[Video insert of Ronnie Hawkins from Starr’s on the Credit 2008 video highlights]

Ronnie Hawkins: “Folks, I’d like to tell you that it’s an honour to be here meetin’ all you old timers again. Most of you were going to jail before she took over. Now you’re all rich. Whatta girl!”

[End insert]

Yup. You’re looking at MYTHissauga.

Let’s keep going.

[Photo 35: Hazel McCallion poses with “Elect Ron Starr” sign. Ted Woloshyn stands amused in background.]

Now, here’s the first confirmation that I get that the guy in the hockey jacket or whatever, really was Ted Woloshyn.

If there’s any doubt that Ron Starr was Hazel McCallion’s preferred choice, take a look. That’s why we’re documenting all these pictures, saving them. Because eventually you build a map of MYTHissauga.

And a map isn’t just roads, it’s also connections between people. As you see here. So you know, any wonder why Ted Woloshyn writes the way that he does?

[Photo 36: Hazel McCallion poses with “Elect Ron Starr” sign, Ron Starr. Ted Woloshyn stands amused in background.]

Here again. You’ve got Woloshyn. You’ve got Ron Starr. And you’ve got Hazel McCallion.

Ted Woloshyn did his bit in the Toronto Sun and his Toronto Sun columns. And then you had Hazel with the robocall at the last minute. And there they are. She’s got her puppet in.

And I suspect too that Ron Starr is her choice for her successor in 2014.

[Photo 37: Joyous Hazel McCallion poses with joyous Ron Starr as she holds an “Elect Ron Starr” sign.]

Oh yeah, look at this. Let’s go closer. Look at these faces.

“My Ronnie!…”

Thank you, Andrew for these photographs.

[Photo 38: Hazel McCallion admires Ron Starr’s hockey sweater with “STARR 6” lettering.]

And just for the record, you’ve still got Ted Woloshyn’s jacket right there, so he’s enjoying this.

[Photo 39: Hazel McCallion posing with a smiling Unidentified Faithful male and female.]

Now who have we got here? Let’s go back to make sure we’ve got everybody in. Oh. And over here, Fran Rider.

[Photo 40: Darryl Konynenbelt from Global TV with Hazel McCallion waiting for cue.]

[laughs] And speaking of one of Hazel McCallion’s media puppets, this is Darryl Konynenbelt from Global TV. Made an unsuccessful run as Conservative candidate for Mississauga South.

And I think that’s over here, that’s the head of Victor Oh. And we’ve still got Fran Rider in the background here.

[Photo 41: Darryl Konynenbelt from Global TV with Hazel McCallion waiting for cue.]

He’s pretending to be a reporter pretending to be the ever-vigilant media. And talk about, McCallion can always depend on this guy to toss her some sweetheart questions.

[Photo 42: Darryl Konynenbelt from Global TV adjusting his tie ready to speak with Hazel McCallion]

Goddamighty.

[Photo 43: Smiling ROGERS Cable 10 Mississauga standing next to a smiling Ron Starr waiting for cue.]

Oh! And there’s ROGERS Cable 10 with some more Pretend.

This is why this 19-year old who wrote me saying, “The System is CORRUPT, there is no way to fix it”—

[Photo 44: Serious-looking ROGERS Cable 10 Mississauga standing “reporter” interviewing a serious-looking Ron Starr.]

—you’re looking at why.

Now that’s Jake Dheer’s ROGERS Cable 10 interviewing Ron Starr. And you’re going to expect any kind of real questions?

[Photo 45: smiling Identified, smiling Bonnie Crombie, Smiling Sheldon Leiba]

Don’t recognize this guy, but there’s Bonnie Crombie, Hazel McCallion-approved Ward 5 by-election candidate and Sheldon Leiba, president Mississauga Board of Trade.

[Photo 46: four smiling people, “Starr’s on the Credit girl”. Victor Oh, Fran Rider in background.]

This lady. Again. Starr’s on the Credit. There’s Victor Oh. Fran Rider.

[Photo 47: Victor Oh holding bottle of champagne beside smiling “Starr’s on the Credit girl”]

Victor Oh. Starr’s on the Credit. Bottle of champagne. He’s happy.

[Photo 48: Smiling Victor Oh and smiling “Starr’s on the Credit girl”. Close up.]

And the real laugh? This guy also plays big in Safe City Mississauga and the Mississauga Crime Prevention Association.

[Photo 49: Hazel McCallion about to hug someone introduced by a smiling Victor Oh. Ron Starr’s prepping a burger]

She’s [McCallion} about to hug him so, somebody and he’s [Oh] introducing this person.

There’s the champagne. There’s Ron Starr chowing down on a burger.

This is after the cameras go off. This is Election Night.

[Photo 50: Victor Oh beams as Ron Starr uncorks another bottle of champagne. Hazel McCallion backs away, wary of the cork.]

Looks like a private kind-of-thing.

There’s Ron Starr uncorking another bottle of champagne. Look at Hazel.

[Photo 51: Victor Oh beams even more as Ron Starr launches champagne cork up, up and awaaaaaaaay.]

Look at this.

When Hazel McCallion talks about “my people”, she’s not talking about the residents of Mississauga. Here’s her People.

[Photo 52: Smiling Sheldon Leiba beside Bonnie Crombie who’s talking to the smiling “Starr’s on the Credit girl”.]

There’s the head of Mississauga Board of Trade Sheldon, and Bonnie Crombie.

[Photo 53: Unidentified smiling Faithful standing beside Ron Starr and his campaign manager.]

And we’ve got Ron Starr here talking to his campaign manager, Susan Walsh. And I recognize this guy right here at the back. He was at the “Friends of Hazel” Rally on December 2, 2009. Helped organize it.

[Photo 54: Darryl Konynenbelt from Global TV talking privately to Ron Starr. No microphone.]

It’s also interesting that they let in Konynenbelt or whatever and also ROGERS TV but Hazel McCallion refused to allow the Mississauga News to interview her.

[Video insert October 25, 2010 inside Great Hall earlier that evening as election results were coming in]

Donald Barber: “The short, gray-haired guy who’s making the —he’s getting in the face of the Mississauga News. Telling them to get out of the way. Don’t answer any questions. Hazel doesn’t want to answer any questions.”

MISSISSAUGAWATCH: “Which one’s that?”

Donald Barber: “The guy who’s got the roses. There.”

MISSISSAUGAWATCH: “Oh. Uh oh. Don, help ’em out.”

Donald Barber: “What?”

MISSISSAUGAWATCH: “Just watch the knobs here.”] * Note. “knobs” mean Hazel McCallion’s security guards.

And here’s Hazel McCallion standing next to Ron Starr’s campaign manager, Susan Walsh.

[Photo 56: Unidentified grinner and Hazel McCallion posing beside Ron Starr’s —yep grinning and triumphant campaign manager. Two kids in background.]

You know when they say about “Our kids are our future?” There they are.

They’re talking about that youth. Not the ones in Malton.

[Photo 57: Unidentified smiling youth and Hazel McCallion posing beside Ron Starr’s —you got it grinning and triumphant campaign manager.]

Ah! There’s what I’m talking about. That youth is their future.

[Photo 58: Bonnie Crombie talking to what appear to be two organizers of the December 2, 2009 “Friends of Hazel” Rally.]

There’s Bonnie Crombie again. And it’s important to get that guy. Again, I think that guy is from the Stop the Inquiry Rally. And I even think I know this guy.

[Photo 59: Hazel McCallion and a smiling unidentified Faithful.]

There.

[Photo 60: Hazel McCallion speaking to Charles Sousa.]

Charles Sousa.

[Photo 61: Ron Starr and a smiling unidentified Faithful.]

Let’s just do a close up here.

[Photo 62: Smiling Hazel McCallion posing with smiling Victor Oh and smiling company.]

Now given the photographs that you see of Hazel McCallion —I think it’s at the Canadian Chinese Business Association, this one isn’t a surprise. And it will be interesting to see how many of these also show up at the Mayor’s 90th Gala Birthday Party.

That’s the expensive one that was $350.00 a ticket.

[Photo 63: Smiling Ron Starr posing with smiling Victor Oh and smiling company.]

There’s Victor now with his new Councillor.

You’re looking at MYTHissauga.

[Photo 64: Smiling Hazel McCallion sitting around a table celebrating Ron Starr’s election and her re-election.]

And that’s it.

MUNICIPALITIES: A ROOT OF YOUTH VIOLENCE

“Although it has become common knowledge that those who are pushed out or who drop out of high school are vulnerable to economic and social insecurity, and that this can often lead them into situations of violence, there has been a shortage of critical assessment of all the institutions implicated in this situation.”

August 2011 TSX -491.75 echoes MYTHissauga “city elite” in 2008 market crash (2008 –when Jake Dheer, Bonnie Crombie all smiles)

August 8th, 2011

World stock markets are in tatters. The ass fell out of the bucket. Perfect timing for today’s blog about Hazel McCallion-approved Ward 5 by-election candidates Jake Dheer and Bonnie Crombie!

The TSX down from a high of 13011 a week ago to 11,671 at time of writing. It’s like the Fall of 2008 all over again.

Freeze-frame "TSX performance just prior to October 17, 2008 Peel Police Services Board meeting" from video "Hazel McCallion Mayor's Gala Scandal: MYTHissauga "raised mmmillions of dollars"

For the record here’s what Mississauga’s city elites were doing on November 8, 2008 as reported by Snap South Mississauga.

22nd Annual Mayor’s Gala

On November 8th, 2008 at Mississauga’s Living Arts Centre, Mayor Hazel McCallion hosted her 22nd Annual Gala Celebration, celebrating her 30th Anniversary in office. This year’s gala saw over 850 guests, with Regis Philbin, from the Regis and Kelly show, performing for the guests and spending some time with Mayor McCallion. The event was all for a good cause and this year’s event raised funds for arts, culture and heritage in Mississauga. Guests laughed the night away as the Mayor and Regis laughed the night away. Guests had a fabulous time this year and will for sure be looking forward to the next gala.

And what was Ward 5 by-election Jake Dheer and his fellow Mayor’s Gala organizers doing on November 8, 2008?

Mississauga city elites were feeling no pain in the last market crash (November 2008)
Turning every ticket dollar into (according to Councillor Nando Iannicca) “this grand fete with the City’s elites. And at the end of the day for every dollar that came in, eighty cents was consumed.” Now that’s a MYTHissauga charity!

And that’s why the only sane response to Mayor’s Gala organizer Jake Dheer’s Ward 5 by-election campaign slogan, “No one runs like a Dheer” is “Let’s hope so”.

Freeze-frame "Percent proceeds of Mayor's Gala" from video "Hazel McCallion Mayor's Gala Scandal: MYTHissauga "raised mmmillions of dollars"
And what of the other McCallion-approved Ward 5 by-election candidate, Bonnie Crombie? What was she doing in 2008?

Crombie, former public affairs consultant, threw thousands and thousands of smiles.

Smiles in August 2008, posing with smiling son, Alex, who campaigned for Vice President Federal of the Ontario Young Liberals.

Just like mom who claimed, “I’m meeting with lots of organizations and groups who are asking me to run,” in the Ward 5 by-election, son Alex wrote, “I have been humbled by the overwhelming call for me to run for this position and the immense amount of support I have been given by my fellow Ontario Young Liberals.”   That was in January 2009.

So many calling for Bonnie and Alex to run…

Even in front of Trooper Marc Diab Memorial Park.

Bonnie "Barbie Doll" Crombie even smiles posing at Trooper Marc Diab Memorial Park

MYTHissauga. Smiles.

Bonnie Crombie would do well to counter “No one runs like a Dheer” with the campaign slogan, “No one smiles like a Crombie”.

And what was Bonnie Crombie doing in November 2008? Haven’t researched that yet but can tell you that on October 14, 2008 she was elected MP for Mississauga-Streetsville, beating Wajid “Cross the Floor” Khan with 21,579 to his 16,946.

One of Crombie’s 21,579 votes was mine!

Better check what the TSX is doing… -491.75.  OUCH!

No worries. Bonnie and Jake will be all smiles. Both lead mythical lives in mythical MYTHissauga.

Hazel McCallion Mayor’s Gala Scandal: MYTHissauga “raised mmmillions of dollars” (10:11 min)

(Click here to go directly to the clip on YouTube)

Video transcript at the blog, “Mississauga Council video presentation, “Hazel McCallion Mayor’s Gala Scandal: MYTHissauga ‘raised mmmillions of dollars’”

Megan O’Toole, Tom Urbaniak, MYTHissauga Inc, Ward 5 By-election, Freedom of Information, Life, the Universe –Everything.

August 4th, 2011

The last two weeks have been a blur.

A National Post article by Megan O’Toole hit me especially hard. She’d approached me about doing an article on Council watchers and asked if I were interested. I agreed and O’Toole sent me a list of questions. At no time did she say that she’d invited three political scientists to offer comment. And comment they did.

Since then I’ve been trying to get a rebuttal published at the National Post with zero luck —although I did get decent video of both attempts.

The real killer was what Tom Urbaniak served up about me.

[cut-and-paste]

“Some of their messages are valid and might resonate with a larger public — the need for transparency, too much bureaucratic self-justification, the dearth of tough questions … but they start to lose people when they argue or imply that Mississauga is almost a surreal Orwellian state, utterly dominated by sinister myths,” Mr. Urbaniak says.

This from the guy who wrote, “Her Worship: Hazel McCallion and the Development of Mississauga” (all 255 pages plus index etc etc) without filing a single Freedom of Information request!

How, I ask. How?

Have to laugh at how Urbaniak ends his book in his Acknowledgements section:

“Any errors and all deficiencies should in no way reflect on those who so kindly provided assistance or guidance, but rather on my own shortcomings.”

The major “shortcoming” was depending on Peel archives, interviews, Staff at the City of Mississauga clerks office/minutes of meetings (a true joke), more archives, newspaper articles, the kitchen sink —but not filing Freedom of Information!

Then came news of the passing of such a generous and brilliant spirit… Tomorrow is the funeral mass.

But today the Mississauga News announced that Bonnie Crombie had just entered the Ward 5 by-election race. Between Jake Dheer and now Bonnie Crombie, I have to get back at it. Research. Documenting. Reporting.

To be clear, there’s now more than enough evidence that what I do, write, and say makes no difference. A quote I’d stumbled upon when I first began researching the City of Mississauga and the Roots of Youth Violence:

“The truth is that we, as a society – all of us – simply don’t consider children very important. We talk a good game but we don’t think kids are as important as other things, like fixing the roads.” – Jim Paul Nevins (Ontario Court Judge October 4, 2001 report)

and the email I received from a perceptive youth.

…the system is CORRUPT and this is why there is youth violence this is why there are guns on the street and drugs in the hands of children the youth are fighting with the system because it is CORRUPT there is no way to fix it because the people higher up are sitting nice in their big leather chairs, driving their nice cars, living their perfect life when some people in this world have to work hard to get by and even by doing so they get nothing, and after they realize how hard they have to work to get by they break down and no longer want to live life being part of the system because they realize that living life by the rules of the system gets you no where because it is CORRUPT!

I continue this MISSISSAUGAWATCH blog knowing that what I do, write, and say will make no difference. I continue only because I know that the likes of Hazel McCallion, Jake Dheer, Bonnie Crombie and the rest of MYTHissauga Inc would just love it if I stopped.

And so, I suspect, would Tom Urbaniak.

 MYTHissauga’s “media”

TOM URBANIAK MISSISSAUGA "media-barren environment" HAZEL MCCALLION, RON LENYK (former publisher Mississauga News) JAKE DHEER (station manager ROGERS CABLE 10 Mississauga) and "Friend of Hazel" TED WOLOSHYN (TORONTO SUN columnist

On Controlling the Message, from Tom Urbaniak’s book,“Her Worship: Hazel McCallion and the Development of Mississauga”.

Hazel McCallion emerged from that 1982 election with an extremely strong hand. The old establishment had opposed her. Her old enemies had resurfaced to oppose her. One candidate for the Ward 2 council seat expressed alarm at the “Drapeau-like council,” a reference to the domineering Montreal mayor, but that candidate’s vote had been marginal. The only regularly publishing local newspaper had opposed her. A judge had admonished her. And still she cruised to victory. If everyone were against her, it was, to paraphrase John Diefenbaker, everyone except the people.

On city council there was now but one problem child: Larry Taylor. While the conflict-of-interest proceedings had been going on, he had been allowed to snipe from the sidelines. He had even been calling up citizens in all parts of the city to try to set up a Mississauga-wide federation of ratepayers’ organizations. Now, with McCallion presuming herself to be vindicated, he could be taught a lesson. Returning in February 1983 from a stint out of the country, he headed for what he thought would be a regular city council meeting. To his astonishment, the mayor and the other councillors had prepared a most unexpected greeting.

Taylor had helped to start a non-profit newspaper in his ward, a laudable objective in a media-barren environment. He and the volunteers arranged to print it on a city press in exchange for free advertising for the municipality.

This now was portrayed as a major scandal. It was ‘theft’ of city resources. Other groups wanting city support had to apply to council for funding. Senior city staff did not use the word ‘theft,’ but they gravely confirmed that Taylor had been following a rather irregular procedure. The newspaper stopped printing. The city-wide ratepayers’ association concept was also fatally attacked. By trying to set one up, Taylor had supposedly been interfering inappropriately in the business of other wards. The embattled councillor would henceforth be contained.

The Mississauga News for its part was not much of a threat to the mayor now. If sometimes it would report some controversial comments, these were always offset by the numerous feel-good photographs of the mayor at one function or another. When McCallion released only a partial list of her campaign donors from the 1982 campaign despite promising full disclosure, it merited only a blip. When an inquest into a fatal fire revealed the city to be short of bylaw staff none of the discussion redounded onto the mayor’s penny-pinching. When social service agencies complained that not enough was being done to build healthy and cohesive neighbourhoods, they were but voices in the wilderness.

A Voice in the Wilderness

And so I introduce today’s second entry, “Jake Dheer: Ward 5 By-election MYTHissauga candidate (What the Mississauga News and especially ROGERS Cable 10 TV won’t tell you)”

Mississauga News “bombed” with e-graffiti with “Friends of Hazel” hypocrite’s “FREEDOM! FREEDOM! FREEDOM!”

July 22nd, 2011

MISSISSAUGAWATCH Investigation Series, Volume 2, “Peel Youth Violence Prevention as related to McMurtry/Curling’s Roots of Youth Violence” (#2)

Today’s blog builds on our last one, Why research graffiti? (Peel Youth Violence Prevention as related to McMurtry/Curling’s Roots of Youth Violence).  Graffiti is what “bad” youth do and “bad” people do, right?

Can an online newspaper comments section be “bombed” with graffiti?

We say yes.

WHY RESEARCH GRAFFITI? MISSISSAUGAWATCH

In our April 19th, 2010 blog, GRAFFITI in MISSISSAUGA: Preliminary Report (April 19, 2009 – April 19, 2010) baseline, we chose to use the Mirriam-Webster definition of “graffiti”.

graffiti

: usu. unauthorized writing or drawing on a public surface

The functional word here is “unauthorized”.

In their July 14, 2011 Editorial, “Cutting off the dialogue”, the Mississauga News announced:

“We’ve decided to suspend public online commentary on all stories related to the Ward 5 vote and candidates”.

The Mississauga News even cut off commentary on their editorial with “Commenting on this story has been suspended“.

First, we submit that the readers comment section of the Mississauga News online is a “public surface”. Given the internet’s global reach, it’s tough to find a more public, “public surface”.

Metroland, the owner of this “public surface” announced that it was suspending “public online commentary on all stories related to the Ward 5 vote and candidates.”

The meaning is quite clear —any “public online commentary on all stories related to the Ward 5 vote and candidates” is unauthorized.

And what you’d expect to happen did happen. The commenters simply commented on the Ward 5 race in other stories and heaped scorn at the Mississauga News demanding “FREEDOM! FREEDOM! FREEDOM!” and served up “DOWN WITH THE MISSISSAUGA NEWS!”

And this is what the Mississauga News front page looked like on July 16th, courtesy of  “Friend of Hazel”, “Prol”. (“Prol”, we should point out supports “Friend of Hazel” Jake Dheer’s Ward 5 candidacy.)

"Prol", co-designer of the "Friends of Hazel" Rally flyer "bombs" Mississauga News articles with "FREEDOM! FREEDOM! FREEDOM!"110716

MISSISSAUGA NEWS front page: "Prol", co-designer of the "Friends of Hazel" Rally flyer "bombs" Mississauga News articles with "FREEDOM! FREEDOM! FREEDOM!"110716

Having documented some of these commenters, I can confirm how they loathe graffiti artists and taggers. How they refer to them as punks, scumbags and losers.

For the record, what follows are just some of the comments left by “Prol” (alternate alias “AV8R”) after the Mississauga News made its announcement to suspend public online commentary on all stories related to the Ward 5 vote and candidates.

We focus on “Prol” (aka “AV8R”) for one reason. He is an identifiable person, just one of two people who co-designed the Friends of Hazel Rally flyer. The same flyer (in this photo), presented to Hazel McCallion by Lorry Smith (left) and Ron Starr.

Do Lorry Smith and Ron Starr know who “Prol” is?…

Mississauga News reader-commenter "Prol" (other alias "AV8R") is co-designed this "Friends of Hazel Rally" fllyer presented to Mayor Hazel McCallion by Ron Starr and Lorry Smith.

Mississauga News reader-commenter "Prol" (other alias "AV8R") co-designed this "Friends of Hazel Rally" flyer presented to Mayor Hazel McCallion by Ron Starr and Lorry Smith.

“Friends of Hazel” Rally organizer, Betty Merkley certainly does. As perhaps co-organizer, Councillor Katie Mahoney.

We know that “Prol” (by his own admission) is a liar.

He’s also a hypocrite.

Witness “Prol”s call for “FREEDOM! FREEDOM! FREEDOM!”

Fact is,  “Prol” (aka “AV8R”) was part of a massive “sanitation” squad, deleting entire Mississauga News threads back in April 2010 and again in January 2011. Just three clicks of the “Offensive” feature and comments were erased. “Prol” would click once as “Prol” and log in again as “AV8R”. And likely had a third alias as well.

After all, the “Friends of Hazel” have prospered for decades under Mississauga’s media-barren environment and do their all to keep it that way.

“FRIENDS OF HAZEL” DELETE HUNDREDS OF COMMENTS AT MISSISSAUGA NEWS (8:02 min)

(Click here to go directly to the clip on YouTube)

Such are the Mayor’s “people”. These are the “Friends of Hazel”.

So. Take a look at samples of a new kind of  e-graffiti  —unauthorized writing left on a public surface by one of Hazel McCallion’s finest: “Prol” (aka “AV8R”).

Mayor Hazel McCallion is quite fond of saying that Her Town flourishes with a “team approach”. Witness a TEAM HAZEL’s “Prol”, an e-sociopath doing his all “in the best interests of the City” of course.

This One Message “team approach” is how Hazel McCallion stayed in power for over thirty years.

"Friend of Hazel" (McCallion) "bombs" the Mississauga News with a different kind of "graffiti". "FREEDOM! FREEDOM! FREEDOM!" and "DOWN WITH THE MISSISSAUGA NEWS!"

Good one CR Your ironic posting helps to expose the absurdity of censorship. Apparently, the proletariat can be trusted with commenting on a sporting event or a story about parking violations but not anything as important as a by-election. THAT is best served by the commissar approved arbiters of public consumption, the Mississauga News. THE PEOPLE WILL SPEAK! LONG LIVE DEMOCRACY! DOWN WITH MISSISSAUGA NEWS!

That’s right. Referring to Ontario Ombudsman Andre Marin’s address to The Canadian Centre for Ethics and Corporate Policy, (2007) as “lunatic drivel”.

These are the “Friends of Hazel” —cowards so proud to be supporting their Mayor that they hide behind aliases.

Or just hide.

FRIENDS OF HAZEL RALLY (December 2, 2009). Organizers did their all to prevent Mississauga residents from learning about Hazel McCallion's wheelings and dealings on behalf of her son --and "her people".

If the "Friends of Hazel" are so proud of supporting their Mayor, why all the hiding?...

E-graffiti. Cyber-cowards. Enough’s enough of these “Friends of Hazel’ aliases and multiple aliases.

It’s time to report on real “Friends of Hazel” —with real names. Names we’d never know about had it not been for the big hole the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry blasted into this Company Town’s “media-barren environment”.

A youth once wrote me with “The System is too corrupt, there is no way to fix it.” That’s what both video and Freedom of Information confirms. No way to fix it.

But you can document, document, document, document document…. and warn one person at a time.

Take home message? If you want to see the REAL Mississauga, see what Mississaugans really believe when their identities are tucked safely behind aliases —peer into their racism, their quasi-fascism, read the Mississauga News readers comments! And see this city’s Future!

“I feel divine providence is at play in this election and I’m the person that’s best suited to represent this ward,”

This morning when I Googled “stopcarolynparrish.com” and Mississauga Ward 5 candidate Paul Kesselman showed up in the search results!

And what a surprise to find Paul “divine providence” Keselman by following the link www.burlington.net/election-2010/paul-keselman!

It’s clear that Paul “divine providence” Keselman, self-described “Proud Conservative” didn’t feel enough “divine providence” to inform Mississauga Ward 5 residents that “-266” days ago he was running for  “Ward 5 City & Regional Councillor in Burlington”. Yes! Burlington!

But by far the most outrageous thing about Keselman is his slimy, swarmy “Real Resident Feedback” section at:  www.paulkeselman.com/bio/real-resident-feedback,

Paul “divine providence” Keselman cuts-and-pastes an anti-Parrish comment that he attributes to former Mississauga Ward 3 candidate, Stephen Wahl.  I saved the entire thread comments and fact is, the comment was generated by alias ehdian on Jul 5, 2011 9:05 AM.  [evidence to follow]

To Paul “divine providence” Keselman, “Real Residents” are the same Mississauga News  “Friends of Hazel” cowards hiding behind aliases: “Mantis”, “freddie”, “tankerone” and “ehdian”. —”ehdian”, who for all any of us know, could be Paul Keselman himself “Real Resident”ing under that alias!

And throughout Paul “divine providence” Keselman’s “Real Resident Feedback” section there are references to stopcarolynparrish.com.

Paul “divine providence” Keselman —American-style politics imported to Burlington’s Ward 5 now setting up “divine providence” shop in Mississauga Ward 5. Absolutely fascinating!

Why follow and report on all this, you might wonder. It’s all part of my ongoing research into the Roots of Youth Violence —our lying-“failure to mention” politicians and the resident-infrastucture that prop them up.

Which is as good as any introduction to Part 2 of “Friends of Hazel” (McCallion): Introducing The Four Behind Stopcarolynparrish.com.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH reporting July 16, 2011 while surfing the net, continuing from Part 1.

This guy here. Restoring integrity to Mississauga Council from Oakville and this guy here from Milton. And a reminder that I found that funny and just want to go back.

Yeah, so we’re back here to Cheryl Glassford, just want to be carefully documenting this.

And we’d also said that the two biggest people that you do not want dealing with youth, let alone anything with moving parts is Katie Mahoney and Pat Saito. And the absolute worst of the bunch Katie Mahoney.

[DIP TO WHITE]

“Info”. That’s all she says. However, you could also see that she [Glassford] votes [sic: supports] so clearly she’s right in line with anything that MYTHissauga and Hazel McCallion would want her to do.

[DIP TO WHITE]

“Vote for Patrick Mendes”? There he is. Ah yes.

Anyway.

So we’re back to Cheryl Glassford and happy to have done her and now back to Murray.

Now a reminder that I had videotaped Murray Glassford’s initial photograph here where he was riding on a motorcycle. He’s since changed the page at Christmas time and now he’s put that up. He’s actually a coach or something to do with the North Stars, the minor league here in Mississauga.

So I suspect that that’s where he gets a lot of his influence.

Murray Glassford lists 58 friends. Nothing jumps out. Except this guy. Reminder, Tom Cahill helped with the stopcarolynparrish.com, so we go to Tom Cahill. There he is. And he’s got 414 friends.

And what’s really interesting, very quickly, there she is.

Tom Cahill. “Info”. “Lives in Milton, Ontario”.

And what we’ll do then now is go to Tom Cahill’s flickr site. There he is.

And when you search on various tags he has, you find “Murray” right —search, there it is right there. Search “Murray”. And there’s Murray Glassford.

And it’s still up. I’m surprised actually. It was uploaded, so it’s May 2009. And there’s a Mississauga, City of Mississauga employee. Community Services.

So there it is. Tom Cahill’s friend, Murray Glassford of stopcarolynparrish.com.

[DIP TO WHITE]

And there is Cheryl. Cheryl Glassford who wrote —Hazel McCallion’s apologeticist  and too happy to, look at this:

“She is accused of going to meetings. Is her personal time not her own?”

So in other words, a mayor can go to meetings that benefit her son —what was it? Ten million dollars? For the hotel complex? As long as it’s her own time?

These people did their ALL the prevent the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry. And of course we now know why that is. There’s all kinds of stuff that spilled out.

[laughs] Including we find out about the Mayor’s Gala, the Community Foundation of Mississauga. On and on and on.

These are the people behind stopcarolynparrish.com whose mission is, heh, to instore [sic] integrity and respectability. And of course you do that by failing to mention to mention all kinds of things.

In fact that’s how Hazel McCallion stayed in power. Failure to mention. Coaching to keep things Positive Positive Positive. And of course have, you know, have, you know, Ted Woloshyn and Ron Lenyk and Jake Dheer your “media”.

Okay, I’m just trying to think what else before I turn this off, but I think that’s it.

We hear a lot about poor ethics and broken promises on the part of politicians these days, and how this breeds cynicism in the electorate. But this is by no means a problem confined to politicians. My office has uncovered many cases of government ministries, boards and corporations making grandiose promises to the public that they not only can’t keep, they don’t even bother to try. They promise a level of service or a standard of conduct that they don’t come close to delivering – forgetting about the public they are supposed to serve.

This kind of puffed-up promise, or “puffery,” as I call it, damages the public trust, fuels cynicism and generally gives public service and government a bad name.

Address by André Marin, Ombudsman of Ontario, “Puffery vs Public Interest”. The Canadian Centre for Ethics and Corporate Policy, (2007)

which brings us to:

On Mayor Hazel McCallion’s “telling it like it is” —from Tom Urbaniak’s book Her Worship: Hazel McCallion and the Development of Mississauga (pages 143/144).

Despite McCallion’s tight control, it did happen occasionally that unwanted statements or descriptions slipped into the budget documents. In such instances, Her Worship did not hesitate to chastise the staff. One staff-prepared budget overview contained a statement implying that deferred maintenance was resulting in deterioration of facilities used by the public:

Continuing fundings pressures for capital reserve fund financing in the first six years resulted in significant deferrals of maintenance to the end of the forecast period (10 years). This results in continued deterioration of department facilities and is most noticeable where these facilities are heavily used by the public (eg, community centres, libraries, arenas, park trails and sports fields). Fire and emergency services is also severely impacted by this funding constraint as the training centre and station renovations cannot be funded within this plan. 23

This brought a sharp rebuke from the mayor: the statement should either be retracted or adjusted. This is a very significant statement to me that a roof is going to fall in on some of our buildings. Somebody’s going to pick this up and say “yes, you’re doing a great job on taxes but you’ve got significant deferrals. I think you should take out that statement, redo and tell it like it is.”

Community services commissioner Paul Mitcham tried at first to explain, but then conceded that ‘it’s probably not a good statement.’ He promised it would be taken out.

July 17th, 2011

Yesterday I shared what the co-designer of the “Friends of Hazel” rally flyer (alias “Prol” other alias “AV8R”) posted to me in the Mississauga News comments section just to give Mississauga residents an idea the kind of abuse you can expect when you stand up to Hazel McCallion.

“Friends of Hazel”. Hazel McCallion’s “people” —cowards who hide behind multiple aliases.

Today I was going to continue with Part 2 of “Friends of Hazel” (McCallion): Introducing The Four Behind Stopcarolynparrish.com but something unprecedented happened at the Mississauga News in between. In the July 14th  editorial, “Cutting off the dialogue”, the Mississauga News announced:

In the interest of ensuring fair and unbiased coverage for all candidates running in the Sept. 19 Ward 5 by-election, we’ve decided to can the chatter. In some ways, it’s a sad day for The Mississauga News and for community journalism.

We’ve decided to suspend public online commentary on all stories related to the Ward 5 vote and candidates.

They continue:

We still welcome the opinions of our readers on this important election and encourage you to submit letters to the editor

Well, what you’d expect from the Friends of Hazel cowards who hide behind aliases to happen did happen. They just commented everywhere else serving up “FREEDOM! FREEDOM! FREEDOM!” and “DOWN WITH THE MISSISSAUGA NEWS!” And I videotaped it.

Why? Because by his own admission,”Prol”, co-designer of the Friends of Hazel Rally flyer lies.

And here’s Friend of Hazel “Prol’s” flyer flanked by Lorry Smith and Ron Starr.

Mississauga News reader-commented "Prol" (other alias "AV8R") co-designed this "Friends of Hazel Rally" fllyer presented to Mayor Hazel McCallion by Ron Starr and Lorry Smith.

So here’s the video.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH reporting July 16, 2011 while surfing the net.

It is Saturday, July the 16th, 2011 and this is what the Toronto Star looks like. And we’ve been documenting the conduct of the co-designer of the “Friends of Hazel” Rally flyer, an individual named “Prol”.

And Mississauga News has suspended comments on their website on anything related to Ward 5 because of such antics as individuals like “Prol”. And you can see, for example, this is a new article on Ward 5 and down at the bottom it says commenting has been closed.

And I have other videotape to show some of the vile comments by “Prol” and the “Friends of Hazel” —that is, supporters of stopcarolynparrish.com and the Jake Dheer candidacy.

And so over here, this is what the Mississauga News looks like on the front page. “Recent Comments” “Prol”  “Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!”.

By “Prol”, “Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!”. “Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!”.

And what has happened is every new article in the Mississauga News where comments are allowed, whether it relates to politics or not —doesn’t matter. You have “Prol” —remember, co-designer of the “Friends of Hazel Rally” flyer, “Friend of Hazel” calling for “Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!”

And to my disgust, “Tony Jackson” has also joined in.

So in every site, these two drop their turds of disrespect at the Mississauga News.

And what I want to do is document that. [Note. The Mississauga News was forced to delete their comments.]  That’s “Wonderettes are marvellous”

We now go to “City master plan wins award” and the same here. And sure enough there they are.

“Shooting suspects try [sic] for bail”. And I tell you, if I was webmaster at the Mississauga News, both these ASSHOLES —and I used to have respect for “Tony Jackson” but I don’t have anymore— would be gone!

[DIP TO WHITE]

Here. “Deer sighting in Port Credit”. I thought, oh, really cool article. And there they are again. Only in this particular one, you’ve got —it was ConcernedResident, who started it. “Comments [on this story] have been suspended”.

“tankerone”, whose response to Carolyn Parrish confirming she was running in Ward 5 called for stopcarolynparrish.com website. And we have again “Prol”. [writing “DOWN WITH THE MISSISSAUGA NEWS!”]

All three, strong supporters of Jake Dheer.

So, this is the mentality. This is —this is how Hazel McCallion stayed in power all these years.

July 16th, 2011

MISSISSAUGAWATCH Investigation Series, Volume 1, “What citizens should know about stopcarolynparrish.com” (#2)

First off I thought I’d share what the co-designer of the “Friends of Hazel” rally flyer (alias “Prol” other alias “AV8R”) posted to me in the Mississauga News comments section just to give Mississauga residents an idea the kind of abuse you can expect when you stand up to Hazel McCallion.

Hazel McCallion’s “people”.

In Rick Mercer’s video, “Welcome to Mississauga”, Mercer asks Hazel McCallion the secret of her 30-year reign’s success. Without hesitation she replied, “Well, you have to look after your people.”

MISSISSAUGAWATCH has been documenting the Mayor’s “people” since May 2006.

Today we continue our video report of the Mayor’s “people” —this time real ones, and their website, stopcarolynparrish.com.

This website was created by an on-and-off-again retired City of Mississauga employee Murray Glassford and his wife Cheryl.  We’ve monitored stopcarolynparrish.com since April 2010 when we suspected that at least some of the Mississauga News reader-commenters hiding behind aliases just might be from stopcarolynparrish.com! I can’t stress enough, only “possible”.

Should you take the time to visit that site, please keep in mind that their Mission Statement is “Dedicated to respectability and integrity in Mississauga politics” as you read the comments posted there! Like the the goings-on in Peel itself, issue-driven this site is not.

Why videotape actual net-surfing sessions?

For irrefutable proof of what’s really going on, there’s nothing better than videotape. While today’s video has been edited for brevity, we uploaded the original unedited version up to YouTube in a private location. The original video, from camera on to camera off, is 26:53 minute in length and in two YouTube parts. This provides a “history” then of what a website looked like on a particular date. (You’d be amazed how the Mayor’s “people” remove inconvenient truths once they’re reported.)

“The Friends of Hazel” (aka: the Mayor’s “people”) are truly cult-like in their allegiance to Mayor Hazel McCallion.  And preliminary evidence suggests that of the “Friends of Hazel” cult-worshipers, there are no more rabid “priests” than those commenting at stopcarolnparrish.com.

As is now our custom, here’s the video, complete with transcript.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH reporting July 5, 2011 while surfing the net.

It is Saturday, July the 9th, 2011 and this is what the Toronto Star looks like.

I hope to upload this video either July the 9th or July the 10th, depending on how things go.

[DIP TO WHITE]

Anyway we go through and why the interest in Cheryl Glassford? For several reasons, but first being when you go to the Mississauga News website and search for “Cheryl Glassford” —Letter of the Week, Editorial.

July the 10th, 2009, she sent a Letter to Mississauga Councillors saying that she’s really disappointed with the “disintegration of morale in our city council” and that she was “appalled”.

And you know, very, very very much against Carolyn Parrish, And that in itself isn’t —I got no problems with that.

The problem is the way that Cheryl Glassford, and her website. also with her husband, stopcarolynparrish.com —and the problem that I have is their Mission Statement, Carolyn Parrish causing “further embarrassment” to the City.

The “embarrassment” to the City is the Truth that is spilling forth like turds in a plugged-up toilet.

And there she is and a reminder she had “Full Disclosure” here, saying that yes, her husband “was a City of Mississauga employee until his retirement in 2008. And then fails to mention that in the election year, where is it, Murray Glassford here.

Under “Info”, mentions that he was a temporary labourer in the 2010 season from April 2010 to November 2010, which happens to be the election year.

So you’ve got a City of Mississauga employee double-dipping —first in pension and then also as being employed as a temp. Also being active in the stopcarolynparrish.ca [sic] website. And —er dot com, pardon me.

And then that draws the question, the political neutrality of City of Mississauga employees.

[DIP TO WHITE]

And then we got back. She’s written another letter —right there.

And she talks about “facts” and we got a lot of facts coming out of the Judicial Inquiry. And they don’t correlate to Cheryl Glassford’s concept of “facts”.

[DIP TO WHITE]

A reminder too that Cheryl Glassford organized —helped organize the December 2nd. 2009 “Friends of Hazel” Rally that did their best to oppose the Judicial Inquiry.

[DIP TO WHITE]

MISSISSAUGAWATCH reporting July 5, 2011 while surfing Phil Green’s “Cancel the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry Now” online petition.

Phil Green. He started it.

But if you look at the first 24 signatures.

These people rank high in the list of people who do not want citizens of Mississauga to know what’s really going on.

And notice in the first four, you’ve got both Cheryl Glassford and Murray Glassford signing this petition to stop the inquiry. Why?

And the other guy that’s really interesting is at #17, one Mike Webster who we have already confirmed has a website called web-tech.ca and signs in, let’s see —the (Canadian) Airgun Forum and Zombie, I forget what it is, Zombie-something (Zombie Hunters Forum) as “Mantis”.

And said that, we’re going to deal with Mike Webster, he’s quite the beaut, at another time.

So why are we so interested in both Cheryl here and Murray, we are researching the kinds of people who support Hazel McCallion. The ones who [speaking in a whisper] don’t want Mississaugans to know what’s really going on.

 [DIP TO WHITE]

 So back at it.

What do her [Facebook] friends reveal, because there’s only 39 of them.

Well, Betty Merkley. She was a key in organizing —and in fact, on October the 28th, [2009] she was a speaker in front of Council and helped organize, key in help organizing the “Friends of Hazel” Rally, December 2nd, 2009.

And when you look, Betty Merkley has only five friends.

And we’ve already had Rob Trewartha, who had written just recently a letter to the editor of the Mississauga News. We’ve dealt with Rob Trewartha.

And he listed all kinds of friends, all manner of information, including his photographs. I mentioned that at the Mississauga News and now Rob only shares profile information, you know, people he knows.

Too late, cuz I got all of his stuff

[DIP TO WHITE]

—including photographs of him and Hazel and him admitting, “Yes, I’m a political hack”. You could already tell that from his letters.

There’s Cheryl so you can see that there’s a link there. And Jonathon Crombie. Is that Bonnie Crombie’s kiddie? We don’t know. Would be interesting to find out though.

And I always want to go back like that just to show that it is a computer screen and I’m working at it right now.

Going back to her 39 friends

[DIP TO WHITE]

Applin is also an important name because she credits two people with this website.

[DIP TO WHITE]
[ and reads from stopcarolynparrish.com]

Yeah. Notice? Applin, Kerry Applin. And we’re going to do him today too and buddy Tom Cahill did the programming.

And by the way what’s fun is Tom Cahill is a resident of Milton and this guy [Kerry Applin] interesting too.

Oh and “We also want to Thank [sic] Ted Woloshyn, or Woloshyn or whatever, here’s what Ted Woloshyn is like, just to give you an idea of [his] commentary at the Toronto Sun.

And Hazel’s lapdog here —this is from the Mayor’s Gala’s website. So you can, you will not be able to expect any kind of objectivity from —that guy.

[DIP TO WHITE]

Again, just going back. There’s Cheryl Glassford. We have also Councillor Pat Saito. And a reminder. We have Freedom of Information and also been videotaping Mississauga Council since oh, December 2006.

There’s only one person who deceives citizens more than Councillor Pat Saito and that is Katie Mahoney. And I should add that Councillor Pat Saito was a former City of Mississauga employee as well.

[DIP TO WHITE]

So that Cheryl Glassford then has links to both [laughs] the two worst Councillors for truth, Saito —and Mahoney

[DIP TO WHITE]

Kerry Applin. And it might just be instructive to do him really quickly.

[DIP TO WHITE]

Going back just to check, I’m not sure what the camera was aiming properly or not.

[DIP TO WHITE]

“Dramatic Graphic Net”. There’s his website. “Art and Design”. So is this the guy who helped design the “Friends of Hazel” Rally flyer? Is that possible? Hmm.

And Kerry Applin is an Oakville resident!

[DIP TO WHITE]
[Music: “Don’t crash the ambulance” Mark Knopfler]

So! The stopcarolynparrish.com site that wants to restore integrity or maintain integrity in the City of Mississauga was designed by Kerry Applin, an Oakville resident, and Tom Cahill, a Milton resident.

[laughs] Whattabuncha hacks. I love it. This is so funny.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH reporting July 5, 2011 while surfing the net.

It is Tuesday, July the 5th, 2011 and this is what the Toronto Star looks like. Let’s see if we can do this all in one quick —take.

Here is stopcarolynparrish.com and they are saying that they’re “Dedicated to integrity & respectability in Mississauga politics”.

When you go to their Mission Statement— the “Full Disclosure“, from Cheryl Glassford is that yes, “my husband was a City of Mississauga employee for 34 years until his retirement in 2008. It has been brought up by Carolyn Parrish but I fail to see the connection to this issue.”

Something like conflict of interest, we’ve got a City employee who is being politically active when the Standard of Conduct says that employees are supposed to be seen as politically neutral.

Another thing is, of course, that this is supposed to be “Full Disclosure“, failed to disclose that her husband worked at the City of Mississauga during an election year.

Here is Murray Glassford’s Facebook page as seen on November, or-ah-yeah, November 26, 2010.

There he is, kind of blurry picture but what can you do?

And he says that yes, he’s retired, he was a former manager of Parks Operations —I have a lot of information, Freedom of Information on City of Mississauga Parks and Rec managers.

And you see that he’s a temporary labourer at the City of Mississauga BraeBen Golf Course in the 2010 season. So so much for “Full Disclosure” here. And then on top of it, stopcarolynparrish.com —I think under “News”, sorry, likely it’s under “News”, uh-yeah.

They want to thank two people, Kerry Applin but also Tom Cahill for their help in the programming [sic] of stopcarolynparrish.com.

When you go and Google “Tom Cahill”, you get to his Facebook page  —pardon me. Sorry. You get to his Flickr page. And it looks like that.

You can actually do a— there’s Tom Cahill.

And what you do then is you see some pictures here. Tom Cahill’s photostream. And it looks like there was this Mother’s Day. Here. Mother’s Day 2009.

And it looks like they may have gone to Toronto here with Murray. And a reminder that this is what his Facebook page looks like. And there’s also pictures of Murray Glassford as a Mississauga Manager.

And so there’s Murray Glassford of stopcarolynparrish.com. This is Megan —not sure what relationship, likely daughter.

This is a picture here of Murray by himself. And close-up.

And finally a picture of —we know this to be Megan. And here is Cheryl Glassford. So Cheryl Glassford of stopcarolynparrish.com. There’s Murray Glassford and Tom Cahill —let’s see if we can get Tom Cahill. Can we get a picture of him? No, this is as big as we can get, although I suspect that every photographer has a portrait.

Let’s see what his Sets are.

Weddings. Self [sic] Portrait. Continuing. Is there a self-portrait of him? Yeah, “Self Portrait”. Again, this is Tom Cahill’s photostream and as you go down, and, that’s what he looks like. There.

These are the people of stopcarolynparrish.com.

There. Murray Glassford and Cheryl.

Turning camera off.

Also for background, Cheryl and Murray Glassford helped organize the December 2, 2009 Friends of Hazel Rally opposing the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry. And it looks to me as I might have accidentally captured Murray Glassford’s image when I took this photo at that Friends of Hazel Rally.

FRIENDS OF HAZEL RALLY (December 2, 2009). Organizers did their all to prevent Mississauga residents from learning about Hazel McCallion's wheelings and dealings on behalf of her son --and "her people"

Murray and Cheryl Glassford also played a big part in the Cancel the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry Now Petition.

Both are truly committed to ensuring keeping MYTHissauga goings-on vewy vewy quiet. You can see Cheryl Glassford signing the” Cancel the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry Petition” as #2 and husband Murray as #4. Tom Cahill, (a Milton resident who programmed stopcarolynparrish.com) signed as #618.

UPDATE: July 12, 2011. In the original version of this blog I’d stated that Oakville resident Tom Cahill, programmer of the stopcarolynparrish.com website had removed the tag “Murray” from his Flickr page as well as the Glassford photographs. This is incorrect, it simply didn’t show in Cahill’s top 150 tags. Apologies for the error.

Larry Taylor, Mayor Hazel McCallion’s “problem child”-councillor dies: a dedication

By: John Stewart

Former Ward 4 Councillor Larry Taylor, a political idealist who fought for the environment, social housing and inclusive municipal planning policies in an era when those ideas were considered radical, died this morning.

Taylor, 62, was a long-time member of the NDP party who pulled off a stunning upset of incumbent Councillor Caye Killaby in 1976. He died of lung cancer in a hospice in Barrie, where he had lived for many years. Taylor had fought three different types of cancer since 1998.

In a telephone interview from his hospital room last month, Taylor said he had few regrets about a life that revolved predominantly around politics. He was involved in at least 38 different campaigns as candidate, campaign manager or organizer and ran provincially and federally for the NDP several times, most recently in Barrie in 2007…

I met Larry Taylor —only once, and let’s just say that we compared notes…

Mr. Taylor is a Mississauga finestkind.

I prepared this video reading from two passages about Larry Taylor from Tom Urbaniak’s book, Her Worship: Hazel McCallion and the Development of Mississauga.

As is our custom, here’s the video complete with transcript.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH (reporting inside Mississauga Council Chambers, June 22, 2011)

It is June 22nd 2011 and Council has just adjourned and I want to pay my respects to former councillor Larry Taylor. I only had the privilege of meeting him once but I can tell you —he’s finestkind.

And I want to read from Tom Urbaniak’s book, “Her Worship: Hazel McCallion and the Development of Mississauga”.

He talks about Larry Taylor on page 115 and I want to read it now.

And it goes on and on.

So Larry Taylor had been a “problem child” councillor to Hazel McCallion.

And then there’s one more that I want to read now. And it’s on page 134-135. Right there.

In 1984, when the mayor’s own property was rezoned to allow for single-family homes (the same property that had been at the centre the conflict-of-interest case), no one appeared at the statutory (public) meeting in order to complain. That property was still surrounded by open fields. (This time, McCallion declared her conflict of interest.)

I mean we’re talking about something that happened in the 80’s here.

As a sign that visible opposition seemed to be draining away, McCallion finally even calculated that she could move on Larry Taylor. Waiting until just a few days before the 1988 election, she sent a letter at city expense and on mayoral letterhead to Taylor’s constituents, accusing the councillor of telling ‘a lie’—

And if you see ‘a lie’ is there in quotes. So clearly it was McCallion using that term.

—’a lie’ when he blamed council for being politically motivated in rejecting his request for a stop sign. The furious and now imperiled councillor charged that this last-minute missive was ‘calculated’ to prevent him from responding, that it was an inappropriate use of public money, and that McCallion had prevailed upon Mississauga News publisher Ron Lenyk to endorse challenger Frank Dale. (Lenyk denied being pressured by the mayor.)

Now, there’s one thing that is very clear and that is the degree to which Ron Lenyk, former publisher of the Mississauga News, is an extremely close friend and supporter of McCallion.

It would be for example, if I were Mayor or any kind of politician and I would want someone to be a publisher of the only newspaper in my city, I’d pick someone like Lenyk.

And the story of Ron Lenyk can be seen in the photographs of the Mayor’s galas going all the way back to 1987, the first Mayor’s gala all the way downward.

And when you see Ron Lenyk in there or if you see video of the “Starr’s on the Credit” 2008 video highlights, Ron Lenyk’s performances on documentaries—

Hazel, she’d always was [sic] around the action. She was the action. She was the centre of the action. So Media found her, as you said, a media darling.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH (reporting inside Mississauga Council Chambers, June 22, 2011)

How could you not be mayor for three decades when you’ve got Ron Lenyk in your pocket as the only local newspaper —and on the other side, you’ve got Jake Dheer (laughs) as the only “television station”.

Jake Dheer, speaking on Mayor’s promotional documentary (shown at Hazel McCallion’s $350.00 a ticket birthday bash, February 12, 2011)

“The Mayor’s Hour” is the longest running show on Rogers TV and I think, probably the longest-running that any mayor has ever had.

MISSISSAUGAWATCH (reporting inside Mississauga Council Chambers, June 22, 2011)

It is so pathetic! So pathetic, this place.

Mississauga is just a huge company town!

UPDATE  June 24, 2011  12:06 am.

The Mississauga News created a wonderful editorial “Taylor was an original” honouring former Mississauga Councillor Larry Taylor. It begins:

Former Ward 6 Councillor Carolyn Parrish is a colourful and controversial character who could cause a mighty ruckus at City Hall — but she couldn’t hold a candle to Larry Taylor.
Taylor was an original.

Back in the day (1976-88), the former Ward 4 Councillor sparked (and revelled in) one furious debate after another in Council Chambers — much to Mayor Hazel McCallion’s chagrin. At the time, his revolutionary and often unwelcome ideas about preserving the environment, municipal planning and social policies were considered radical.

Taylor’s flair for dramatic oratory and his frequent criticism of City policies at council meetings and in the press often landed him in trouble with his colleagues.

Notice reference to Taylor’s, “frequent criticism of City policies”… And that was back in the 80’s!

Hazel McCallion. Michael Nobrega. WCD. WHO wanted the court file SEALED? “–the Mayor did have a much tighter relationship with the Oxford group than they did with us.”

August 12th, 2010

We’ve got a unique one for you today!

Video combining August 11, 2010 Inquiry testimony by Craig Coleman, former president of 156 Square One and Hawthorne Realty Advisors (AIMCo rep), with video from the January 22, 2009 meticulousy-orchestrated Enersource public information meeting.

So how meticulously-orchestrated was it?

It was so meticulously-orchestrated that Hazel McCallion did not invite former city manager (and key negotiator) Dave O’Brien to the meeting.

Truer words were never spoken than Mr. Coleman’s August 11th comment about Hazel McCallion, Michael Nobrega/Dave O’Brien OMERS (Ontario Municipal Employees’ Retirement System):

— the Mayor did have a much tighter relationship with the Oxford group than they did with us.

Here’s video confirming AIMCo’s terrific instincts!

And the court transcript!

COURT TRANSCRIPT BEGINS
“Q” is William McDowell, “A” is Craig Coleman

 16 Q: Now, let's look at Exhibit 380. So
17 this is September 11th, 2009. There's an offer to settle
18 that's been received by Mr. Smart, and he's emailed you.
 19 A: Correct.
20 Q: When did you learn that the
21 litigation had in fact been settled?
22 A: It would have been later that day. I
23 was out of the office and actually not receiving phone
24 calls or emails. And it would have been around four
 25 o'clock that evening that I had -- when I -- when I kind

2856

1 of got in an area where my Blackberry was working, all of
2 sudden a number of emails and phone messages popped up,
3 and we had learned that Oxford wanted to settle.
  4 Q: Okay. Let's look at Exhibit 382.
5 This is the offer that Mr. Smart's referring to, I take
  6 it?
  7 A: Yes.
8 Q: Let's scroll down. So the number
9 we've heard in other evidence is $4 million. And then if
10 you look at the third paragraph there:
11 "The parties will consent to an order
12 to remove all the application and
 13 counter-application materials from the
14 court file or to seal the court file."
15 Was the genesis of that notion of sealing
 16 the file WCD?
 17 A: I -- I don't know.
 18 Q: You don't know. Then let's look at
19 Exhibit 383. So Mr. Charles reporting to you, John, and
20 Gawain -- Mr. Filipetti and Mr. Smart, I take it?
 21 A: Yes.
 22 Q:
23 "They have been instructed to accept
24 the settlement offer from WCD at the
25 cost of 4.0 million. They indicated

2857

1 that due to a larger OMERS relationship
2 with the City of Mississauga, they are
3 willing to accept the settlement."
  4 This, I gather, didn't sit well with --
  5 with your clients, AIMCo?
  6 A: We weren't consulted --
  7 Q: Right.
8 A: -- with respect to the settlement.
9 We weren't aware that people were even negotiating a
 10 settlement.
 11 Q: M-hm.
12 A: We were comfortable with our position
13 with respect to the litigation.
 14 Q: M-hm.
15 A: So this come -- this really -- this
16 settlement came out of the blue.
17 Q: Did you understand that you had an
18 opportunity to veto the settlement?
19 A: From our perspective at this point in
20 time, we believed it was a done -- it was effectively a
 21 done deal.
 22 Q: Right. So that --
23 A: It's been done. Our understanding is
24 it's been done at a higher level. And quite frankly,
25 Oxford's there to get it papered and get it done.

2858

1 Q: Did you speak to Mr. Smart about the
  2 settlement personally?
  3 A: Yes.
4 Q: Tell us about that discussion.
5 A: Well, again, we weren't happy. We
6 were trying to understand why. We were con -- we were
7 concerned about -- we were concerned in that we -- we
8 don't know why this settlement happened; we don't know
9 the details of the settlement; we don't know what the
10 impetus to the settlement was; and I relayed all that
11 Gawain, and quite frankly, was concerned that -- we were
 12 concerned with our position.
13 Q: Did you appreciate that -- that he
14 had been out of the loop in the settlement discussions as
 15 well?
16 A: It seemed to maybe catch him a bit
 17 off guard as well.
